Anyone have the lyrics or know where I can access them please. Have searched the data bases here with no luck

I know it is aGraeme Miles song written and performed by him, but also might have been covered by Vin Garbutt.

Any help greatly appreciated

Folktrax.org says A WHITBY GIRL'S LAMENT appeared on Graeme Miles' album "The Sea's Their Bread: Songs of Fishermen & Sailors," FTX-223, 1977.

They also say it begins "I came in by Whitby town, O my Terence he was drowned" and they call it a "Captain Kidd" type tune.

That's all I could find.

I'll email Robin Dale, I'll be surprised if he doesn't know it.
It's not on either of Robin's CDs nor in Forgotten Songs Remembered nor Songscapes.

Robin Dale sang this song at a concert at Whitby Folk Week in 2009, and I have a recording. If you don't manage to get the words from Robin I'll take them down from the recording.

Mailed Robin earlier; his habit is to phone back rather than email.

As i just said but the post didn't take.
No reply from Robin. He may be away.
As well as helping wilbyhillbilly its always worth having another song text on Mudcat.

These are the words as sung by Robin Dale, (I hope), at Whitby on 29th August 2009.

THE WHITBY GIRL’S LAMENT

I come into Whitby Town, Whitby Town, Whitby Town,
I come into Whitby Town one grey dawn.
There standing on the pier was a young girl all in tears,
And upon her cheeks they ran down, they ran down.

Oh, my Terence he is drowned, he is drowned, he is drowned,
Oh my Terence he is drowned while out at sea.
That day he went to fish so much against my wish.
There upon the sands he was found, he was found.

He went out to sea last night, late last night, late last night,
He went out to sea late last night.
He went out on his own – he prefers to fish alone,
But had not returned home by first light, by first light.

Now there was neither wind nor storm through the night, through the night,
There was neither wind nor storm through the peaceful night.
But it's said that his small boat was none too safe to float,
And it's feared he's overturned, out of sight, out of sight.

Oh, my Terence he is drowned, he is drowned, he is drowned,
Oh, my Terence he is drowned while out at sea.
With no help from wind or rain, the sea has won again.
Now that poor boy of mine, dead is he, dead is he.

I come into Whitby Town, Whitby Town, Whitby Town,
I come into Whitby Town one grey dawn.
There standing on the pier was a young girl all in tears,
And upon her cheeks they ran down, they ran down.
