FYI
The Tribute concerts for Woody Guthrie held at Carnegie Hall (NYC 1968), and the Hollywood Bowl (1970) were issued on LP by COLUMBIA and WARNER records, slightly abridged on CD.

BEAR FAMILY has announced the September release of a 3-CD box
set of these concerts, with two extensive books.

Joan Baez, Judy Collins, Jack Elliott, Richie Havens,Odetta,Arlo Guthrie, Country Joe McDonald,Tom Paxton, Earl Robinson,Pete Seeger,  Bob Dylan, Will Geer, Robert Ryan...

Best wishes, Thomas.

What's your opinion of them, Thomas? I've got so many Woody recordings and I love tributes that are well done. Whaddya think?

I've been trying to find a list of tracks and detailed
content of the books but do not see that yet. Perhaps
they will have it in the next few weeks.

I think the set will include additional material to that
selected for the LP releases, and restore the concert
sequences. That will become clear when the track list
is available.

What do I think? These were the leading performers in the
60's folk revival - as it were "Woody's Children".
The concerts were of great interest to people of that era,
but anyone thinking about acquiring this set should consider
their own appraisal of how they like these performers, their
ability to interpret Guthrie, and the songs included.

For some of us of that generation, it is a gem.

Thomas.

The one I've listened to over and over again is a 2-CD set called A Tribute to Woody Guthrie. it has highlights from a 1968 concert at Carnegie Hall, and a 1970 Hollywood Bowl concert. Will Geer serves as narrator, and that makes it particularly memorable.

Looks to me that the Bear Family Set may be from the same two concerts, which may make me reluctant to pay $130 for more-or-less the same stuff. One promo says the new set has 20 tracks that have not been released before - but is that going to be worth $130 to me? I wish they'd have a set-completion CD that provides only the recordings I don't own already.

There's a nice YouTube promo for the new set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY_ZdqTpems

Oh, Bear Family has a track listing for the new set here: https://www.bear-family.com/various-bear-family-records-woody-guthrie-the-tribute-concerts.html#detailinfo

PBS is broadcasting the 1970 Guthrie Tribute Concert, and
offering a DVD of the concert with membership.
The DVD will be available through media outlets in June.
Wonder if they will also make the 1968 concert available ????

I just finished watching this program on PBS. It featured all the usual suspects: Arlo, Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Odetta, Richie Havens, and more. I enjoyed it. If you're a fan of any of these people,mi hope you'll get a chance to see it.

I needed definitive lyrics for "Oklahoma Hills" for the Rise Again Songbook, so I transcribed Arlo's recording from this CD. I gotta say, the lyrics didn't make much sense. I get the impression that Arlo didn't really know the lyrics to this song exactly, so he slurred over a lot of phrases....or maybe he was smokin' somethin'.
