Subject: Happy Birthday Woody Guthrie From: GUEST,stumd3 Date: 14 Jul 04 - 12:50 PM Thank you Woody Guthrie for being exactly who you were: a contradiction, poet, world-changer, rambler, hitchhiker, guitar slinger, a politician, comedian, radio-show host, country singer, folk philosipher, imperfect husband, imperfect father, friend to the weary, foe to the greedy, novelist, master story teller, writer of great love songs, topical songs, kid songs, funny songs, sad songs, blues songs, hillbilly songs, angry songs, nice songs, songs that changed this world. Thanks to you, I picked up a guitar myself and have learned the power of music. Happy birthday! |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Woody Guthrie From: Mark Ross Date: 14 Jul 04 - 02:08 PM I'll drink to that! I didn't pick up the guitar because of Woody, but, musically, he's been a shining beacon for 40 years(and maybe a warning sign of what not to do in personal relationships). But all the same, I'd rather sing his songs than anybodies. The world would have been a poorer place without him. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Happy Birthday Woody Guthrie From: Steve-o Date: 14 Jul 04 - 08:00 PM Tonight I'll raise my glass to Woody and give one of his favorite toasts (according to the Lomax interview)- "Here's to her, and to her again....If you can't get to her, then let me to her....'cause I'm used to her!" Happy Birthday Woody, and thanks for all the songs. |
