The end of an era indeed. A great loss to folk music. I have added John to the "In Memoriam"thread and send my condolences to all those who know and love him.

RIP

if no one else will state the obvious,
it might as well be me.
I speak so bluntly as to give offense, all the time.
I'm sorry if this is offensive.

But surely John Prine's remains have now been laid to rest.
I am well aware that the pandemic restrictions have
required Prine's widow and family to postpone
memorials or funerals in the sense of
gatherings of people,
and that such must happen sooner or later, as permitted.

So I guess we will be told, when the family thinks it appropriate,
about the burial and the grave.

Wikipedia; In accordance with Prine's wishes as expressed in his song "Paradise", half of his ashes were spread in Kentucky's Green River. The other half were buried next to his parents in Chicago.[52]

52. Doyle, Patrick; Doyle, Patrick (April 13, 2020). "John Prine: The Last Days and Beautiful Life of an American Original". Rolling Stone. Retrieved April 16, 2020.

There may, of course, have been some delay in the present circumstances.

That Green River area is lovely. It was a nice spot to choose.

Thanks for Wikipedia's quote
from Rolling Stone magazine,
I had not seen that article
and it does indeed answer my question.

Hope all of the bereaved
-- since Prine's 'fans' sound, indeed,
like a sort of extended family --
soon have what is needed
in order to come together and say their farewells.

When I get to heaven, I'm gonna shake God's hand
Thank him for more blessings than one man can stand
Then I'm gonna get a guitar and start a rock-n-roll band
Check into a swell hotel; ain't the afterlife grand?

And then I'm gonna get a cocktail: vodka and ginger ale
Yeah, I'm gonna smoke a cigarette that's nine miles long
I'm gonna kiss that pretty girl on the Tilt-A-Whirl
'Cause this old man is goin' to town

Fiona Whelan Prine - wife and manager of John Prine

'A doctor called and said I should come to the hospital immediately'

Throughout the pandemic, the Today Programme is hearing from people about their experiences of Covid-19, and from some who have lost loved ones. Folk legend John Prine died from Covid-19 in April.

It was broadcast this morning on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4

It is available to listen to for the next 6 days. I don't know if it is available to those of you from outside the Uk or not

If this link works, it will go to a recent interview
by Billboard magazine with Fiona Whelan Prine,
concerning the legacy of John Prine's recorded work.

"He was the quietest one at the table, but we still miss him"

Shameful admission here. Watched most of a Charlie Pride bio before realizing it wasn't about John Prine. Sigh.

NPR just aired a 2-hour Prine on Prine thing as part of an "occasional" series, called (I thibk) TLk Music To Me. Interviews with the editor of the new Prine on Prine compilation. One of the intervieweees wrote a cookbook where she got recipes from stars like John Prine * and * their mothers.

Blicky.

Two John Prine songs I've been doing for years (decades) are 'Spanish Pipe Dream' and 'Hello In There'. Met a guy in the parking lot, the other day, who said he lived next to him, said he was super nice guy.

He's in a better place.

Will have to disagree about that "better place." He'd be better here still, singing and not having had COVID. IMHO.

John McCutcheon composed a song called "The Night John Prine Died"

In these times each day feels like the next

    F                                  C             G

But just tonight my old friend Richard sent a tearful text

       F               G             C             F

I could feel his sorrow on the screen, wondering if I

C         G                           C    F G C G C

Heard the news tonight that John Prine died
