I'm sort of new at this, been here before long time ago and have forgotten most of the rules so if I'm breaking any, someone will let me know. A friend recently wrote a beautiful song in tribute to John Prine and I feel it certainly should be shared amongst musicians and lovers of music.

Thanks Beer, great to see you back!Great song, never would have found it with out the info. The singer sounds a lot like John Prine himself.

Would be interesting to find out if he's done other songs;I'll get on the case.

Thanks again

Very nice. This song makes me remember what a great impact those first and second LPs had on me. The production is also first rate.

I remember exactly where I was when I was introduced to John's first AP. I was in total shock. As much as I liked Dylan, John stepped to the front for me. Thanks Dave for the welcome. BTW, Hughie has about 4 cd's out and most are all his writings. He sings one he wrote for his mother called "Margaret". Bring a lump to your throat. He is on facebook and I do believe has a web site.

Hard to believe that anyone will ever write a better song on the subject.

Gillymore says what I felt when I first heard John's first album.Loved Sam stone, performed it a few times. He'll always be up there with the very best for me.

Bonnie Raitt does some of John's songs;Angel from Montgomery for example.

He was taken way too soon.

Here is Hughie's song to his mother. It certainly could be to our own Mum's as well.

I was in the new first year intake of a brand new sixth form college - Lancashire had gone comprehensive, and a big thing for us was a tiny room with a turntable that we could use at dinner time. We were pretty much split into two groups fighting to use it (music was tribal in the 1970s): Zappa, Beefheart and Blues enthusiasts vs David Bowie fans (i.e. "Zappa? How can you take seriously someone pictured sat on a bog?" vs "Bowie? He was shit in Davy Jones and the King Bees and he's still shit.") I was in the former category. Still am, I suppose, although my view of Bowie has changed.

Anyway, one day someone brought in the LP "Age of Atlantic" and put on the penultimate track on side two: Sam Stone. Total silence. Someone picked up the arm and replayed it. It blew everyone away.

The man was an extraordinary musician and song-writer.
