Subject: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 15 Aug 00 - 03:07 PM After looking at the down east Bob photo I had a look at some of the other Mudcat photos and there was Liz the Squeak. So imagine my disappointment when Liz's drum was no where to be seen! A prime opportunity to bring tourism to Dorset by flashing its biggest asset at the webpage and Liz didn't take it. Shame on you Liz the economy of Cerne Abbas may well never recover Roger |

Subject: RE: BS: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 20 Aug 00 - 04:13 AM The anticipation is killing me Just been to the photos page and it wasn't there ...oh wait a minute it says one more item downloading.......seconds more of tension and then there it is Wonderful - did you paint it yourself Liz its very good roger |
Subject: RE: BS: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Aug 00 - 08:53 AM Regretably, no, someone else painted it, but he was well primed with my likes and dislikes. The quote is 'So now mid (might) none of us forget, the pattern that our forefathers set', from a poem by William Barnes, and done in dialect from Dorset, where the Cerne Giant also resides, as I used to. The wyvern is the emblem of Wessex, which included Dorset, dragons support the Dorset crest, and the white roses are because I hate red roses. LTS - did you spot the green men behind it?

Subject: RE: BS: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Mbo Date: 20 Aug 00 - 11:07 AM Speaking of penes, isn't the nekkid dude with the rampant one, supposed to be The Dadga? |
Subject: RE: BS: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Alice Date: 20 Aug 00 - 11:46 AM Great, LTS, now we need sound to go with the picture. Can you play the drum and send Mudcat a recording? Is there already one somewhere here and I missed it? |
Subject: RE: BS: pictures of Liz the squeaks drum please From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Aug 00 - 05:12 PM Re the nekkid dude - no-one quite knows who he is, but he bears more than a passing resemblance to a statue of Hercules that was found in the ruins of a roman building hard by.... there are also rumours that he used to carry a cloak over the other arm, geophys. surveys have been carried out, and it is apparent that there was something there once, that has been allowed to turf over. It is said that in the victorian age, there was a belly button, touching the tip of his willy, that was allowed to become part of it, but this is unproven. I do play it, it is deep and sort of chocolatey in texture, but there are no recordings, as it is used exclusively on processions. If you want to hear it, go to Hastings at May Day or Harrow on 28th October.... LTS |
