Subject: RE: star trek From: Grab Date: 17 Dec 00 - 11:02 PM Oh man - there's ppl out there who went through the 80s without hearing Star Trekking? Where were you?! Next thing you'll be asking "so who was this Thatcher woman anyway?" :-) Grab. |
Subject: RE: star trek From: Matt_R Date: 17 Dec 00 - 11:08 PM Um, Grab not all of us are that old....I was 10 when the 80's ended. And I didn't listen to anything besides country music till I was 16. THAT'S where I was. |
Subject: RE: star trek From: Naemanson Date: 18 Dec 00 - 05:03 AM I'm old and who IS that Thatcher woman anyway? I never had the opportunity to see the original episodes of Star Trek until they were in reruns. I'm sure there are episodes I have missed. I never had the opportunity to mingle with real Trekkies until I was in my 30's. So, no, I never heard that song. The only Trek song I've ever heard was Banned From Argo. |
Subject: RE: star trek From: Grab Date: 18 Dec 00 - 09:08 AM Maybe it was unique to the UK then. It was done by the Spitting Image team IIRC (or the vid anyway), a satirical puppet show in the 80s. Oh all right then. For those who don't value their sanity, this page claims to have a RealAudio version of it. This page claims to have the song AND the video. Grab. |
Subject: RE: star trek From: Mrrzy Date: 18 Dec 00 - 09:10 AM I'd heard of this one but not seen the whole thing... anyone want to do the blickie to the old Star Trek parodies thread, with the others? |
Subject: RE: star trek From: GUEST,rabbitrunning Date: 18 Dec 00 - 11:02 AM I think it's on either the Dr. Demento 25th Anniversary Collection or the 30th Anniversary collection. Great song. First time I heard it was at a Star Trek Convention and the people doing it were all in the appropriate costume. Thought I'd break something laughing! |

Subject: RE: star trek From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Dec 00 - 08:14 PM It was a complete rip off of a song called 'I am the star trek man' and the guy who wrote it never even got a mention, let alone royalties, even though it was identical in too many places to be a coincidence. The original was popular on the morris dance/re-enactment scene for years before the record was even thought of. LTS |

Subject: RE: star trek From: Bagpuss Date: 21 Dec 00 - 08:31 AM I also remember a short lived (and pretty bad) parody of Star Trekkin called Start Wreckin. The only other lyrics I remember were "There's clingfilm on the toilet seat..." Told you it was bad... Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: star trek From: Azizi Date: 21 Jun 05 - 10:51 PM IMHO, the original Star Trek series was the best {well actually I haven't watched any other Star Trek series so what do I know?} My favorite character from that series is Spock. But some folks here might appreciate this ode to 'Noble' Captain Kirk: (Tune- Grand Old Duke of York) The noble Captain Kirk, he had 500 men. He beamed them up to the Enterprise, And he beamed down again. And when they're up, they're up, And when they're down, they're down, And when they're only halfway up, They're nowhere to be found. Source: Scouting Web Songs; Silly Songs M-Z Click HERE for more songs. **** Also, I just found out that this song was in the DT: ON THE GOOD SHIP ENTERPRISE (Doris Robin and Karen Trimble) On the good ship Enterprise Every week there's a new surprise Where the Romulans lurk And the Klingons often go berserk; Yes the good ship Enterprise There's excitement anywhere it flies Where tribbles play And Nurse Chapel never gets her way. See Captain Kirk standing on the bridge Mr. Spock is at his side; The weekly menace, ooh, ooh It gets fried, scattered far and wide It's the good ship Enterprise Heading out where danger lies And you'll live in dread If you're wearing a shirt that's red. @parody @filk @space filename[ ENTRPRIS RG |
Subject: RE: Star Trekkin' - seeking to license for songbook From: Joe Offer Date: 21 Sep 14 - 01:47 AM Up at the top of the thread, you'll see that Branwen23 posted the lyrics to "Star Trekkin'" a one-hit wonder by a UK group known as "The Firm. Well, the song has enduring popularity, and the Rise Up Singing people want to include it in their new songbook, Rise Again - and I"m on the songbook committee. Songfile.com says the authors are John O'Connor/Rory Kehoe/Graham Lister - and I have not been able to track down any of the three. I did contact another member of the group, Bill Martin, and he said that John O'Connor is the person who controls the rights to this song. As far as I can tell, John O'Connor was living in the Santa Barbara area and performing New Age music with a band named EKO. He recorded on the Higher Octave label. But so far, O'Connor has not responded. Can anybody help me reach him? Thanks. -Joe- joe@mudcat.org |

He also has a Channel on Youtube which was set up in 2012 - so you could try sending a message through that? John O'Connor's Youtube channel Message page |

Subject: ADD: Banned from Argo (Leslie Fish) From: Joe Offer Date: 06 Apr 18 - 01:51 AM I keep hearing about filk songwriter Leslie Fish. Here's her "Banned from Argo." Banned From Argo Copyright © 1977 by Leslie Fish verse tune trad, "Boston Burglar" When we pulled into Argo Port in need of R&R,
Chorus: And we're banned from Argo, everyone. The Captain's tastes were simple, but his methods were complex. Our Engineer would yield to none at putting down the brew; Our proper, cool First Officer was drugged with something green, The Head Nurse disappeared awhile in the major Dope Bazaar, Our lady of Communications won a ship-wide bet Our Doctor loves Humanity; his private life is quiet. Our Helmsman loves exotic plants; the plants all love him too. A gang of pirates landed, and nobody seemed to care. Our crew is Starfleet's finest, and our record is our pride.
