Subject: RE: Di Franco & Phillips feat. in Observer From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 28 Apr 01 - 07:42 PM A link to a story in last week's paper is a link to this week's paper as well. That's how the Internet works. There's even a little search engine all ready there on the site ready to be used... |
Subject: RE: Di Franco & Phillips feat. in Observer From: SINSULL Date: 28 Apr 01 - 09:57 PM Thanks, Suzanne. There is an ongoing and often humorous debate about whether DiFranco is really "folk". It always ends with "But she's recorded with Utah Phillips". Yeah, the old guy is still tweaking people's noses. |

Subject: RE: Di Franco & Phillips feat. in Observer From: Susanne (skw) Date: 29 Apr 01 - 08:59 PM Guest: Sorry I can't help you. Was there anything about them in this week's paper as well? Then why don't you provide the link yourself? :-) Amergin, I'm not sure I'd like Ani di Franco - I'm not deeply into American stuff, and rather conservative in my tastes - but I do like Utah's songs. (He also looks like a thoroughly nice person.) |
Subject: RE: Di Franco & Phillips feat. in Observer From: Gervase Date: 30 Apr 01 - 04:44 AM Sinsull, you've hit the nerve there. My daughter has her own taste in music and it certainly isn't mine - she's into Idlewild, Nirvana and the like - but last week she was listening to an Ani di Franco album and I said: "I didn't know you liked folk!" She looked at me witheringly, until I played her some of the stuff she's done with Utah Phillips, and she looked at me again asi if to say: "You may be an old fart, but maybe you're not so bad after all!" Then I played her some Billy Bragg, and next it's going to be the Oyster Band. So, slowly, the blinkers are coming off her ears (if that isn't an absurdly mixed metaphor). One day I might even get her to go back to Towersey without her protesting that she'll die of shame! |
