a green bullet isn't your only choice. if your a singer and blues harp player i would go for a shure 545. it is the microphone blues harp greats like paul butterfield, little walter and junior wells, and they still make them retail for 100. or you can get a VINTAGE used one on ebay for 50-150$. Its a great deal. switch it to hi impedance and it will sound just as good as any bullet mic.

Is it suggested that we send TED the Harp and the microphone and he will work around it? And then send all three intact/form-fitted/concise/copasetic?

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Everything Ted does is strictly custom. He'd make it to suit whatever model/size harp you play.

"what at the dimensions? "

Big enough internally to fit your instrument!*

While many instruments will be of the same size - some will not.

* Behave yourselves!

For neophytes: the types of microphones being talked about here are what you want for that 'dirty', 'amplified' Chicago blues sound - as opposed to a rural (e.g. Sonny Terry) blues, bluegrass, or Country sound, for which you would want a vocal mike such as the Shure 157 - or is it 571 - or 517 - or 751 - or 175 - or ... ?

One of the regulars at Mudcatter Tweed's blues forum, Tweedsblues.net, has made a mic that a harp slips into. Here's a link to a thread with pics (CLICK). The guy's name is Ted Crocker and his contact info is there on the thread.

Not specifically helpful maybe, but the "Apex127 Harmonica (Blues Harp) Microphone" might be an option. I picked one up for more compressed vocals for blues (Move It On Over and the like) to try for an older vocal "feel". Haven't seriously played harp in decades, so it remains untried for its intended purpose.

Cheap though, $75 Cdn.

Peace, Mooh.

I used a Shure Green Bullet for years, but it finally gave up the ghost, and I'm back in the market. Does anyone have the Shaker mics? If so, how do you like them? I see that Hohner also makes a harp mic.

Kazoo,

The green bullet is the only choice. Buy one and forget it, spend the rest of your energy on the right amp. I think I'm going to check out a Peavey "Delta Blues." I heard it makes a great harp amp.

Hey, Anyone have any personel experience playing a Shaker Harp mic? What's the sound like? Is it comfortable? Etc... My experience so far is only with vocal mics and the Shure 520D (green bullet). Thanks!!!
