Subject: Tune Req: Chieftons; The Fiddling Ladies... From: Thomas the Rhymer Date: 07 Jan 03 - 07:21 PM Special Request... On the "Tears of Stone" cd, The Chieftons recorded an incredible strig and called it 'The Fiddling Ladies'.Eileen Ivers, Natalie MacMaster, Marie Breatnach, and Annbjorg Lien are all over it... Nice'n quick! The Question; From 5:30 to 7::42 they play a reel that I love, and so I learned it. What am I going to say when people ask what it's called... and my tip is on the line... I've looked high and I've looked low... and I've looked wonderous merry... but and alas mirk darkness seen... and title naught I, but nerry? Anybody know what it is called? Subject: RE: Tune Req: Chieftons; The Fiddling Ladies... From: Thomas the Rhymer Date: 07 Jan 03 - 11:02 PM Thanks Sorcha, but... This reel is probably an authentic trad tune. It is certainly based on trad reels, and it is important to me to find out what I can about it! It's part of the living tradition to know a litte about each tune... or at least it's name and country of origin. ttr |

From: GUEST,Davetnova Date: 10 Jan 03 - 03:55 AM It may be worth going to abc tunefinder where you can enter a tune with a fragment of abc or perl and it will search for matches. Or try the session which has a massive tune database searchable with abc fragments. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Fiddling Ladies (Chieftains) From: GUEST,John Date: 19 Oct 09 - 01:17 PM On the tears of stone album, does anyone know the name of the song at the end of the deserted soldier? (the little irish jam session i mean, instrumental) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: The Fiddling Ladies (Chieftains) From: Ernest Date: 19 Oct 09 - 04:49 PM According to the liner note the instrumental at the end of "Deserted Soldier" is called "Kerry Slide". You have to guess if thats a name or a category... For "Fiddling Ladies" it says "Composed and trad arr. Paddy Moloney" btw. - for what this is worth years after the original question... Best Ernest |
