Subject: Need a Song From: BFP Date: 15 Aug 98 - 08:22 PM This summer, my wife and I helped with a reading program in a small West Virginia library. The kids' ages ranged from 4 to 8. The largest group we worked with was 12. I play the mountain dulcimer and would like to learn a song or songs that would be appropriate for these kid and one in which I could hopefully incorporate their names. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. |
Subject: RE: Need a Song From: Barbara Date: 15 Aug 98 - 08:55 PM You need to get all 12 names in one place, or will a few at a time do? In Malvina Reynolds' Morningtown Ride, the second verse begins "***'s at the throttle, **** rings the bell, **** holds the lantern out/ to show that all is well," and I don't remember the names Mal used because I've substituted so many others over the years. It's also 3 or 4 chords, and should be playable on a dulcumer. What makes it a good dulcimer tune? Only one octave? No accidentals? Think this will qualify. However, I see it's not in the database. It IS in Rise Up Singing, and I bet Joe Offer can post it here faster than me... Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: ADD: Morningtown Ride (Sesame Street Version)^^ From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Aug 98 - 09:06 PM Who? Me???? Morningtown Ride(Sesame Street Version) (adapted from the song by Malvina Reynolds) Train whistle blowin' Makes a sleepy noise Underneath their blankets Go all the girls and boys Rockin', rollin', ridin' Out along the bay All bound for Morningtown Many miles away Cookie's at the engine Maria rings the bell Big Bird swings the lantern To show that all is well Rockin', rollin', ridin' Out along the bay All bound for Morningtown Many miles away Maybe it is raining Where our train will ride But all the little travelers Are warm and snug inside Rockin', rollin', ridin' Out along the bay All bound for Morningtown Many miles away Somewhere there is sunshine Somewhere there is day Somewhere there is Morningtown Many miles away Rockin', rollin', ridin' Out along the bay All bound for Morningtown Many miles away All bound for Morningtown Many miles away |
Subject: RE: Need a Song From: rosebrook Date: 15 Aug 98 - 11:58 PM Hi! A song that I have used with this age group (even older kids have requested it!) is Willoughby Wallaby Woo. I learned it from Raffi's 'Singable Songs for the Very Young'. The lyrics are basically:
Willoughby wallaby woo And on and on...it can include every child in the room. I've started with all the kids standing, and then when their name is called show the group what they think they'd look like if an elephant actually came in the room and sat on them. I like Raffi! Rose |
Subject: RE: Need a Song From: mhflanagan Date: 07 Apr 02 - 02:25 PM Thanks for the lyrics. I will replace with: Driver's at the engine, Fireman rings the bell, Sandman swing the lantern, to show that all is well. Mike |
