Subject: Song sought for Lupercania(?) From: GUEST Date: 08 Jan 01 - 01:32 PM A friend is organizing a party for Lupercania (or is it Lupercalia?), a pagan feast that's got something to do with wolves. Would any of the craft-y catters recommend a song for the occasion? |
Subject: RE: Song sought for Lupercania(?) From: Peg Date: 08 Jan 01 - 02:23 PM It is Lupercalia...ancient Greek, or is it Roman? hmm, no idea of songs...though it is mentioned in one of my coven's rituals for the season I think... it is in part a fertility festival; women would run through the streets and men would lightly slap strips of wolf hide on their haunches to make them uh, fruitful...I think it has to do with wolves and lunar cycles, too..not sure...I bet if you did a search on the net you'd find more... shoulda heard the reactions when I wrote about it for a witchy column I used to do for a feminist newspaper...("Oh, no, we can't have this...")

From: Hollowfox Date: 08 Jan 01 - 04:26 PM The one "wolf positive" song I know is on Magpie's recording "Living Planet", available from www.magpierecords.com if nowhere else. The song is called "Amarok (Song of the Wolf)" Unfortunately, the song's not in DT. |

Subject: Lupercalia From: GUEST,Philippa Date: 08 Jan 01 - 05:41 PM Wasn't Lupercalia a precursor to Valentine's Day? |
Subject: RE: Song sought for Lupercania(?) From: NightWing Date: 08 Jan 01 - 06:20 PM 'Twas indeed, Philippa. You can take a look at this page for a brief history. Won't make any bets on EXTREME accuracy, but it's not TOO awful.

As for songs, I would suggest that just about any love songs would be appropriate, especially "sweetheart" songs or songs that mention Cupid, Eros, Venus, or Aphrodite.
<sing>Cupid, draw back your bow Hee-hee!
