Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 08 Mar 04 - 11:28 AM Is jOhn9 doing the catering ? Andreas - I'm sure that Skip isn't going to give away state secrets to a German spy :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: KJ Date: 08 Mar 04 - 12:42 PM Drop into our wonderful birthing unit on the way in to your cultural tour of 'Ull Skippy, it'll get everyone in the mood for the scenic delights 'Ull has to offer. (Got some good pubs though folks) (No NOT the birthing unit!!) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Eric the Viking Date: 08 Mar 04 - 04:27 PM Skipjack-URGENT is it ten or twelve bicycles you want me to collect the weekend before the bash? Get back as soon as possible, because some of them might need adjusting and tyres pumped up. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 09 Mar 04 - 11:15 AM Oh yes, let us have a cycling trip! Eric, please reserve the tallest bike for me! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Susanne (skw) Date: 09 Mar 04 - 02:30 PM No way, Andy! You're tall enough as it is! (Well, you might be able to serve as our crow's nest ...) Anyway, doing the cultural tour by bike seems a great idea (said she, never having biked in 'Ull before). And it doesn't really seem worthwhile to find a bus for a fifteen-minute tour, does it? Now, if I'm still allowed to come along after this nasty aside: Dave Bryant - yes, I'd like to borrow one half of your spare tent (actually, both halves might be called for ...). So, thanks for the offer. Does it come with transport to and from the campsite? And, as I said earlier, I'll bring my own sleeping bag. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 10 Mar 04 - 05:18 AM Susanne - if you borrow the tent, it's up to you who you share it with ! - it's only a small (igloo style) eurohike. They'll probably be an airbed to go with it if you want. We'll have spare seats available in the car if you wish to travel at the same time as us. We might also be able to dispense the odd cuppa etc. Is this biking thing serious ? - we could bring a couple of folding bikes with us if so. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 10 Mar 04 - 05:54 AM Dave - have you never met Eric? Because if you had met him, you'd never ask whether he can be serious ;-) ;-) ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 10 Mar 04 - 08:09 AM Oh bugger - just after I'd managed to find my cycle clips and puncture outfit ! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Letty (guesting) Date: 10 Mar 04 - 01:18 PM Cycling doesn't seem like a bad idea at all. I've just purchased a second-hand bike here for 25 euro (plus 12,50 repairs), and I'm gradually learning (by trial and error) how to use the gears. Would you believe I've never had a bike with gears before? They're redundant in the Netherlands. Oh MudGuard, I'll do a German song for you instead. Or a Dutch one. Or maybe both. OK, on topic: I'm too lazy to PM you, Skip, but I'd like to come on the tour. Letty |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 11 Mar 04 - 02:35 AM When Letty bikes, I'll do it also. Reserve a tall one (bicycle, not Letty) for me, I have guard measure (6' and above). Wilfried |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: mooman Date: 11 Mar 04 - 03:52 AM Does this bike-o-mania breaking out all over mean I should bring my folding Brompton as well? (will mean leaving one instrument behind!) moo (Richard) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Mar 04 - 04:51 AM A bike would be one way to do a tour de Hull as long as the vapours from jOhn9's curries aren't likely to seriously corrode essential parts. Perhaps Oakley could design some whelk-powered propulsion units. Noreen - I'll offer you a lift on the handlebars - it would make it quite fun trying to get to the bell ! Seriously, I think we quite likely will bring bikes with us - they can go in the caravan for the trip up. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wolfgang Date: 11 Mar 04 - 07:18 AM I have it down that Doo Ron and Glen have bagged the double room at the B&B over the road, and that Wolfgang has first refusal on the other, single room there (if he doesn't fancy the indoor camping in my bothy). The single at the B&B over the road can be fixed for me from Friday to Sunday. Wolfgang |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 11 Mar 04 - 11:45 AM Consider again, mooman - a bike you need only half a day, an additional instrument all the time. Please do me the favour and bring as many instruments as possible. Eager to hear you Wilfried |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Eric the Viking Date: 11 Mar 04 - 12:29 PM Don't worry Richard. I've got a tandem for you and Pat! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 12 Mar 04 - 04:22 AM Perhaps we could form a Barrow cycle display team - forming pyramids and that sort of thing. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Skipjack K8 Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:07 AM Oh no, no, no, no, no! Don't start the the stuff about the 'Helmets again; it near got Oakers and meself permanently removed from these parts. Whilst bicyles are a splendid transport solution for the sessions, I fear the 26 mile round trip might affect some sore arses, and the two point seven deaths that statistics can prove we should expect might dampen enthusiasm for the ride home. Seriously, I was T-boned out of the cycle lane in the middle of Hull9 last summer by some twat of a driver who 'didn't see' me, despite the dayglo lycra, and I durn't fancy having Mudblood on my hands. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:26 AM Mudblood? Hermione, are you still alive? Greg, could you please explain the term "t-boned" to a non-English cyclist? I only know t-bone steaks but in Portaferry you didn't look as if you had been on the barbecue... 48 days! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 12 Mar 04 - 11:30 AM a cycle tour of hull might not be a good idea, whilst hull is completely flat, half the taxi drivers in Hull are blind, the other half are drunk, and the other half are stupid. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Eric the Viking Date: 12 Mar 04 - 02:00 PM OK, cycle tour is off-except for Richard and Pat who'll do it on the tandem! |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Terry K Date: 14 Mar 04 - 04:45 AM I reckon I may bring my bike for the trips between campsite and venue - can't risk the licence. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Les from Hull Date: 14 Mar 04 - 05:24 AM I'm still not sure if I'll be available for the cultural tour of Hull or not. Maggie and I discussed it and we said that we might give Moor and Coast a miss for one year. If I'm in Hull I'll be delighted to give you all the runaround (and I can cetainly use a few £57s). I'm imagining a walking tour of the Old Town following the route of the Fish Pavement. If I'm not available there should be a leaflet available from the Tourism Office (under the City Hall) that will give details of the buildings on the route (I was involved in helping produce this leaflet when I 'worked' for the Council). The route passes (through?) at least three of our significant pubs, Minerva, Black Boy and Olde White Harte. Anyone who favours museums over pubs (anyone?) can visit them (they're free!) while the others wait in congenial settings for the others to catch up. Les |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: GUEST,Oaklet Date: 15 Mar 04 - 01:19 PM Fighting for Beginners is one of a series of workshops offered by Skip during the weekend. It covers fighting etiquette, techniques and tips to make you a more confident brawler. Some find the sudden eruption of senseless violence a bit exclusive and cliquey and the course is designed to provide a way into this charming and rewarding pastime. I have no idea how much he'll charge but I suspect it will be in the region of £57 not including accommodation. Just bring a pool cue stand and a long piece of wood with a big nail sticking out. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 16 Mar 04 - 04:49 AM Fib if you want someone to practice your fighting skills on, you could try giving me a beating - I won't put up much resistance. Unfortunately The Good Lady will not be with me this year as she has a temporary job which doesn't fit in with the timing easily (sorry Wilfried...I know you wanted a rerun of "Our Town" but the Viking and myself will do our best...) and I won't be needing the tandem Eric unless you need me to tow some drunken passenger along! I'll PM His Oiliness with my travel details so a Skipelf can help me from Hull9. Wot instruments should I bring? Richard |

We'll still want to put our caravan on the site suggested by Doug. I assume that Susanne will probably wish to put the tent thay we're lending her there as well. Is Bron bringing her camper ? - what other campers are there likely to be ? If there are enough people on site to warrant it, Linda & I could always bring one of our herd of gazebos. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: MudGuard Date: 25 Mar 04 - 06:34 AM Wilfried, that might depend on whether you mind riding on the roof of Dave's campervan... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd From: Dave Bryant Date: 25 Mar 04 - 07:09 AM Actually Andreas, we have a caravan and car - not a campervan. We might be able to manage if we use my car rather than Linda's - five of us plus a caravan is rather a load for a Vauxhall Astra 1.7 diesel and my Peugeot 405 1.9 diesel isn't that much bigger. How much do you all weigh - I don't think we'd have room if you're all as big as Andreas ? Thank god the run through Linconshire is very flat - we'd never make it up the hills to somewhere like Whitby ! Anyway Wilfried, I've PMed you with details. |
