I've just looked at the map to see where Barrow upon Humber is, and find out its quite near Goxhill, where my great-great-great-grandfather came from. So a real roots event!

I wonder if we can moor a boat in the Ancholme?

Yes John, moorings are available on the Ancholme at South Ferriby, where a small hairy farmer will look after your craft whilst you are visiting Goxhill

The Eurogathering will take place in Barrow Upon Humber, North Lincolnshire (a spit from Hull), close to Barton Sans Hyphens, and the peoples of Bedfordshire are particularly welcome.

I believe there's a singaround in Scanlon's in Brigg of a Wednesday night. Please check that elsewhere before making a special trip. Otherwise, the Beverley sessions would be worth visiting, or the Six Bells in Barrow every Tuesday, or the Brocklesby Hunt in Goxhill every Wednesday.

Right, peeps, I have had a few enquiries about accomodation in the locale, so I have had a look round the possibilities.

I have it down that Doo Ron and Glen have bagged the double room at the B&B over the road, and that Wolfgang has first refusal on the other, single room there (if he doesn't fancy the indoor camping in my bothy). Incidentally, it is run by the redoubtable Mrs Styles, whose architect, cyclist, musician and all round good egg husband has a website here where fine whistles are available. The Moos and the Vikings are staying at our shack, as is Mudguard and Letty, but I'm worried that the sewer won't cope with any more.

However, there are seven beds available in various configurations at King's Well, in Goxhill which is in the next village to Barrow, roughly two miles to the east. There is also Glengarth B&B in Goxhill that may be worth checking out.

If you fancy hotelling it, there is Reeds Hotel, near Barton Upon Humber
which affords expansive views of Oakley's whelk pens, but that is a good four miles west of Barrow and the centre of activities.

Camping and caravanning is also an option, which will probably bring damnation on the weather. There is one in Barton Upon Humber

Having said all that lot, I wish I had found this page first, as it has the whole lot listed there!

Even I'm starting to look forward to it now!

Sorry, David, we crossposted, as that last one of mine took an hour to prepare.

Glad you and the hirsute Lady Linda will be able to come. I haven't confirmed a running order yet, but we will have the centrepiece in Barrow Village Hall on the Saturday night, with the rest centred on the various local pubs that will house sessions and the like.

It would be a good idea to start a list, so if anyone would like to take a stab at one, I'd appreciate it.

Skipjack - in one of your earlier postings you suggested that we could put our caravan next to your semi - was that serious - our caravan is only 11 feet long.

Perhaps we ought to bring the boat ('Ursa Minor' 17" Cabin Cruiser) instead of the caravan.

I think we should be trying to get all the mob who went to Stony Stratford there at least. That would include Micca & Kat, LtS & Manitas, and McGrath. We should have some spare seats if we're towing the caravan up. What about McFat, Raggy and co as well. If it's going to be a Euro gathering, then we need to start recruiting.

Is anyone organising the inflatable moat for the underwater kazzoo championships ?

Ducks and Ducklings, you are most welcome. It is about a fifteen minute walk to the caravan site from the middle of Barrow, but I feel that the facilities there would be much better for the caravanners and campers. Dave, there is some room down the lane beside our gaff, but it belongs to our neighbour, who can be, err, mercurial. I will ask them soon if we can invade their ground, but the site will afford far comfier conditions. Please let me know which option you want to pursue.

The theoretical top limit is however many folk we can squeeze into the village hall, which is many, and the capacity of the two village pubs (the now legendary Six Bells, and the other one, which I think is called the Royal Oak) which is also many.

However, when the usual date of the Eurogathering was decided upon for the UK leg, it caused nearly as much schism as when the one true church ended up with a Pope in Avignon as well as yer man in Rome, and as in UK terms it clashes with Mayday highjinks and the Moron Cursed (as they seem to ennunciate in 'Ull) junket in Whitby, there is likely to be a good deal of numbers dilution, which is fine with me, as long as everyone is happy doing what they're doing. In summary, I don't want anyone to go on a three line whip and end up with pressed men. Or wimmin.

I'm not fussed about being on a commercial site - We just wouldn't want to be too far from the action. Do you know anything about Greenfields Caravan & Camping Site which seems to be the nearest ? If it's still only £4 a night, that's quite cheap even compared with Caravan Club CL sites.

When are you expecting people to arrive - Friday evening or Saturday morning ?

Sorry you couldn't find the campsite Jane. It is to the east of the village, on the road to Goxhill, and can probably be best found by bunging the postcode into streetmap or multimap.

I am due to negotiate with the Six Bells tomorrow night, so I will report back re child policy.

The planning is still at a fluid stage, as we chaos merchants say, but initial ideas are thus:-

Friday night (30th April)      Mixed song and tune session in Six Bells, Barrow
Saturday Lunchtime (1st May)   Mixed song and tune session in Haven Inn, Barrow Haven
Saturday afternoon             Cultural tour of Hull, by coach from and to Barrow (these are high points of Eurogatherings)
Saturday night                Centrepeice concert, Barrow Village Hall, featuring a performance by Cara, open mic and separate singaround and tune sessions (if wanted)
Sunday Lunchtime (2nd May)    Mixed song and tune session in Royal Oak, Barrow
Sunday Night                   Survivors' Session in Six Bells, Barrow
Monday (3rd May)               Depart to seek liver transplant.

Also, we didn't want to miss the chance to do a Mudcat Fundraiser, so there'll probably be a raffle or suchlike on the Saturday night do, so please everyone bring something of value or interest to put up (that includes a quart of whelks in a presentation Kilner jar (read Cannon, Americans), David). jOhn might even be persuaded to cart over a vanfull of his famous curry. The possibilities are endless.

There'll be plenty of free time to do one's own thing, and it's a dip in/out sort of a do anyway, but hopefully everyone will make the Saturday night hootenannay.

Silver Birches seems to be the only site of the four which is still open. It's a commercial site with full facilities, but costs £9 or so night - with an extra charge if there are more than two people.

There is supposed to be another (more basic - ie CL level) site on Barrow Road though, but I can't find a phone number - any ideas Skipjack ?   I'll have a look in my Caravan Club book.

Apparently they live very close and would like to come and delight us with what, on previous form, will be a ripsnorter of a set at the Open Mic on Saturday night, as well as as many sessions they can make. KJ is a midwife, so may be limited by unreasonable mothers insisting on parturition during session time. The rest of the message was a bit rambling, but that's the gist of it. Dave, I think I know that place; wobbled past it on me bike this morning, into the teeth of a north-westerly with scything rain. I rang Brigg Tourist Information (01652 657053) who cover the area, and they confirm that there is only Silver Birches still open. They are right next door to the legendary Sloop , so if history had been different, we'd be having the EuroGathering there!

Any chance of bringing bikes, as there is a cycle path between Barrow and Barton?

In the thread about Kendall & Sorcha visiting the UK, Bill\Sables describes Barrow upon Humber as part of Yorkshire. Is this just because his geography is hazy about the southern boundaries of his county, or is yorkish expansionism about to rear it's ugly head ? I think you might have to consider raising a defence militia of sturdy Lincolnshire yeomanry to repel any planned invasion from the north. Perhaps Mr Sables' recent overseas trip was in order to find allies from other countries.

I have found a couple of Caravan Club CL (Certified Location) sites listed in the CC sites directory. These are usually just fields with a water point and elsan emptying facilities, although some do have loos and electrical hook-ups. They are usually quite cheap £5 or less. Officially they only allow CC members and are restricted to a maximum of 5 pitches, but many that we've been on don't enforce these rules strictly.

Have contacted both of the above and their prices have increased since my site directory was published.

The first (about 1 1/2 miles away) now costs £6.50 per night but that includes a power hook-up, there is a single toilet.

The second (about 3 miles away) now costs £4 per night, no hook-ups, but it does have 2 toilets (male & female).

I probably will go for the second as I shouldn't need the hook-up (for a radiator) at that time of year.
