Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 09 Jul 05 - 02:34 PM My sympathies and condolences Charlie. When the supplies thread gets started, we've got the same extra sleeping bag, comforters and blankets we had last time around. Although, whether they'll be unpacked by October (after we move to a townhouse mid-August) will remain to be seen... -- Gary |

Since different people were arranging it last time & no records were kept anyway, and no one would be silly enough to rely on my memory, you'll need to let us know later how much stuff you actually have managed to locate and unpack! |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Naemanson Date: 10 Jul 05 - 12:34 AM CET! I remember very well. And a six pack or two of India Pale Ale would go down very nicely. Nice to hear from you. I am not making any definite plans on what to bring or how to get there until I am in Maine. I will probably be taking the train or flying down there. After the Getaway I will be in the Washington area for a few days. My nephew and his fiancee are there and we will visit them and go see the sights. |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 08 Aug 05 - 11:10 PM Dang -- hard choices!!!! I mean the beautiful and gracious Dani, or the fiery blues player but pulchritude-challeneged Bobert, for a ride down to the Getaway...dang! I am downright conflicted!! I was gonna rent a big SUV and pick up strays and ruffle feathers rolling in!! LOL. Well if I hitch, can I get back to BWI by noon on Monday? Mebbe I'll just auction my butt off for the benefit of the Cat...won't be the first time. :-D A |

No more of this flying in for 24 hours business. And same goes for El Grecko, too, for that matter! Thanks Mick! But you're coming from NJ, right? You're practically at Ramblewood already! KT |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Dani Date: 09 Aug 05 - 09:56 AM I think that's why Mick moved to NJ: He was sick of us giving him a hard time for riding in exhausted in the dark of night, hitching up his pony and snoring in his drum.... Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Aug 05 - 07:51 PM I just looked at the calendar and find that I have five commitments for that weekend, including a Debby McClatchy concert. I've been at the Getaway six years in a row, but it looks like I may have to skip it this year. Blame it on Debby McClatchy. She's already forced me to promise to wash dishes for her at San Francisco's Camp Harmony after Christmas. I sure will miss the good times at the Getaway, though. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Big Mick Date: 15 Aug 05 - 08:56 PM I ain't buyin this aul load of shite, Offer!!! There is such a thing as tradition, and you are violating it. This Getaway will set records. Amos, KT, Ebbie, Giok, Skarpi, rumanci, Micca, catsphiddle and on and on. All will be here. Of all the ones to miss, this ain't the one, Pa. You need me to call McClatchy and set her right???? You need to be here. Mick |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 15 Aug 05 - 09:49 PM Hell, tell McClatchey to change her plans!! Joe, I think we're gonna really needja at this one. Not only are all the wimminfolk ganging up on puir ul' Mick, but Bearded Bruce is coming and threatening to play banjo. So I dunno, man...it's too risky not to have our favorite Fed around just in case things get, how d'ya say, overheated? Yas know, this is no time to play Pontius Pilate, pal. If Sins has her way with Mick, you don't want it on your head!! LOL! Trust me. A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: beardedbruce Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:04 PM Amos, I should be there with a banjo, but someone will have to show me how to play it. I am just bringing it in self-defense. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Janie Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:13 PM Well, if you have 5, you will have blow off 4 of them--and the one left standing has gotta be the GETAWAY!!! The numbers 4, 7 and 12 are sacred numbers--so you can't stop at 6 in a row--would be blasphemous, not mention unlucky. McClatchey can come to, ya know? Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: KT Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:20 PM Ahem, Mr. Offer......That is not allowed! You actually DO have 6 commitments. If I recall, (and I do) you said, "See you next year!" as we were leaving Ramblewood. I just bought my ticket and I hope you'll buy yours today too! You HAVE to come!! KT By the way, if you act fast, you can get your ticket for $428.00. (or half that!!) |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Tinker Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:27 PM But, but, but.... now Joe I .... okay I'm having rouble putting words around this one and that doesn't happen very often. Now I remember Max saying this was THE year. And I seem to remember your nodding along in agreement. Damn you'd be REALLY missed. tinker PS What'll SINS and Jacqui do with your part of the GREAT PLAN????? They might just have to hunt you down.... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ebbie Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:32 PM It is my fear that Mr. Offer has so good an imagination that he has elected to stay away entirely rather than risk the mayhem that has been promised various members of a certain gender. If this is so, would someone please disabuse him of reason for his alarm? Joe, I'm counting on seeing you there. It's going to be a GREAT year. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: jacqui.c Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:33 PM Too right we will! We've got all these plans lined up - SINS will be heartbroken, she's worked so hard on your bit Joe. I wonder if this concert isn't just an excuse. Is it that the ladies plans have got you worried? |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Ebbie Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:34 PM Think of it, Joe: skarpi!! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 15 Aug 05 - 10:37 PM LEe's do this: let Mick and associates off the hook and divert ALL the ammunition toward hunting down and punishing Joe!! Whadya say, gals? Sound good? You BET it does. You gonna stand for this pusillanimous disrespect from ole Joe? No way, Jose!! Go get 'em, you Mudwenches!!! :D A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: KT Date: 15 Aug 05 - 11:46 PM Ebbie, now that we know Amos is coming, let's remember to pack a dictionary! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Joe Offer Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:18 AM Well, if the truth must be told, maybe it was my fear of SINSULL that drove me away. but I'd better not say that. Now I'm up to eight excuses, two each on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The two classes I teach at church Monday are the ones that are hard to squirrel out of. I'm thinking hard on this one, but I haven't figured a way out. I won't have an opportunity to train replacement teachers until later this year, because the programs don't start until mid-September. My wife Christina asked me who this Sinsull was, and I said she looks kind of like a prim-and-proper schoolmarm who went astray. I showed Christina Sinsull's picture, and she said that yes, she could see how Sinsull was the type of person who would give me a hard time. Of course, Christina thinks I deserve a hard time. But looking at those pictures of last year's Getaway, I thought how sad I'll be to miss seeing all those nice people this year. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: KT Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:40 AM No problem, Joe. Monday is a HOLIDAY!!! It's ALASKA DAY!! Tell your students you're celebrating the holiday with two ALASKANS and you can't get out of it, but that you'll teach 'em extra stuff the following week! |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: MMario Date: 16 Aug 05 - 10:42 AM Now, don't be unreasonable people. How can we expect Joe to take an extended weekend away from excercising his personal judgement and expressing his opinon in harrassing the Shambles by needlessly indulging himself in changing thread titles and editing posts so that they don't refresh threads? After all - joe doesn't have internet connection from the Getaway and we all know he is such a megalomaniac that the thought of three days without editing a thread without concern for his fellow posters would probably send him over the edge. naaaw- he's afraid of Sinsull. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 16 Aug 05 - 11:22 AM The two classes I teach at church Monday Joe I don't believe in all your years working for the Codwallop-gifted Federal Gummint you never heard of calling in with a Coad. And you just cram the curriculum up a bit or give them home assignments. Hell, you can hire a TA from Manpower to watch the wee angels if it is a babysitting problem!!! A |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Janie Date: 16 Aug 05 - 11:39 AM Joe, Try this: "Please Note. There will be no class on Monday, October 17." If this is something like an 8 session course, simply have the last class on the 9th Monday. Two months advance notice is plenty to offer on a schedule or on a schedule change. Now you have no excuse! :>) Janie |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: karen k Date: 16 Aug 05 - 11:56 AM Joe, I hope you can see how much you would be missed. The thought of you not being there brings tears to my eyes. We started coming in the same year and it just won't be the same. You just have to figure out a way. This is only once a year and we need you. PLEASE!!!!! love ya, karen |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: gnu Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:10 PM Mudwenches? I fear, Amos, that your calumnious denigration, albeit conspicuously meant in frolicsome jest, may invoke countervailing repercussions from whom you seek to gain favour. Yer screwed. |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: MMario Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:13 PM we'd be willing to send excuse notes to the church for you. (Can you imagine the reaction?) Dear ________; We regret to inform you Mr. Joe Offer will be unable to teach on Monday October the 17th 2005 becaue his presence is required at FSGW Getaway 2005 by a horde of Sincerly yours; etc.... |
Subject: RE: Getaway 2005 (14-17 Oct ) From: Amos Date: 16 Aug 05 - 12:21 PM Oh, we can do better than that: Dear Management: Mister Offer will be unable to conduct his scheduled class on Monday; he has answered a higher calling to attend to the needs of his flock, an international conclave of aspiring souls who rely on his spiritual guidance to save their souls and indeed, in this hour of need, their very lives. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but we felt you would understand that where mortal peril is concerned, scheduling convenience must give way in favor of immediate intercession. We will take every care to ensure Father Offer is returned to you unharmed to resume his normal teaching duties (although no guarantees can be offered, due to circumstances which may well be beyond our control). Thank you for your understanding. Board of Directors Father Offer Society |
