Subject: Lyr Add: ONE MORE STEP (Sydney Carter)
From: Barbara
Date: 28 Mar 04 - 01:09 AM

I went looking for this here, and elsewhere, and this is the best I could do. I trust those of you who know this better will find my errors and fix this, right?
Blessings,
Barbara

ONE MORE STEP
(Sydney Carter)

One more step along the world I go
one more step along the world I go,
from the old things to the new
keep me travelling along with you:

And it's from the old I travel to the new;
keep me travelling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn,
more and more about the world I learn;
all the new things that I see
you'll be looking at along with me:

As I travel through the bad and good,
keep me travelling the way I should;
where I see no way to go
you'll be telling me the way, I know:

Give me courage when the world is rough,
keep me loving though the world is tough;
leap and sing in all I do,
keep me travelling along with you:

You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new,
keep me travelling along with you:

Sydney Carter (1915-2004)

The lyrics were taken from the 'Baptist Praise & Worship' book - you've got the same here, Barbara, except for "corner of the world" instead of "corners of the world." Otherwise it looks to be the song in full.

It's always been one of my favourites, because it can mean a lot to everyone of every age and stage in life. I was reading somewhere about Sydney Carter, that he was able to convey complex spiritual ideas in very simple words. I find it so true in the last verse of this song:

"You are older than the world can be,
you are younger than the life in me;
ever old and ever new"

Superb.

Here's a nice recording for teaching the song. It's from St. Andrew's Church, Kildwick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXEclOQmeLY

By Billy Doze: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7bT4qfeZRY

And a very nice recording by our own threelegsoman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er7ABsmjZG4

Oh, and one by a very large children's choir at Havergal College Junior School: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCQJbZ1HBQM
