Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 04 Jan 07 - 10:27 AM Many apologies - it's been hard celebrating the new year and getting back in the groove Worst joke of all time Baby balloon tries to get into Bed with Mummy balloon and Daddy balloon - he is sent back to his own bed with a flea in his ear - later he sneaks back when they are asleep - he finds he can't fit in between them - so he lets some air out of Mummy balloon, then some air from Daddy balloon, then some air from himself All fits perfectly and he falls asleep When Daddy balloon wakes up and sees what Baby balloon has done He rounds on Baby Balloon furiously - You've let your Mother down, You've let me down, and most importantly, you've let yourself down It was one of Dereks |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 04 Jan 07 - 10:32 AM No Ross the biggest joke of all time is me getting planning permission from our council, to build a house, know anyone I can bribe? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 04 Jan 07 - 10:41 AM You'll get it easy PA How can those faceless bureaucrats turn down a fine and decent citizen as yourself Tell em your human rights Mind you - here in the home counties it's not possible to find a plot of land to build a house on It's traditional here in Herts/Beds to buy a house, knock it down and build another one - how barmy is that? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 04 Jan 07 - 11:11 AM This is greenbelt! Thats the catch. Our reason (excuse) is that we need to live on the premises (stable yard) cos of the amount of horse thefts etc. in our area. When we built the stables we wanted the colour of the materials to blend in with the surrounding area, ie green. They made us have light grey with a blue roof - now thats barmy! |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 05 Jan 07 - 03:40 AM Blimey Ross, Breezy dont want much does he. Then he accuses you of telling other people's jokes !!! He can talk, most of his jokes are other peoples. I've sent an engineer to Chile. He turned up on one flight and his tools (including a Hilti gun!) and luggage on another. He's on a one way ticket cos I don't know how long he'll be there. Police got suspicious and held him at the airport. When he finally got to site the materials had not arrived. They're in a container on a ship in the Bahamas !! Never a dull moment ! |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 05 Jan 07 - 04:18 AM Hi PA - they are frightfully pro in St Albans As an American preacher said - there is no point in asking God for anything vague - be specific - Don't ask him for a car - Ask him for a big red car with a 2 litre engine and an ashtray - it worked for Noel Edmonds Green belt - that is a problem - why don't you apply to build a motorway and put a caravan on it - they seldom turm new roads down How does a balloon commit suicide - they let themselves down Fancy being in Chile without your tools Special greetings to Dame Cathy |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 05 Jan 07 - 06:24 AM Here's one for the girlies: When you mix water and flour you get glue. Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: breezy Date: 09 Jan 07 - 06:00 AM Bert Tim or Tiny Reynolds, I do not have hairy knees I do not wear Eric Morecambe shorts I play chords and sing unaccompanied next viewing Sunday 21st Jan at the Rose and Cown Bit windy today Dilute the listerene, 50% H20 its too acidic according to my hygienist And I do not wear 'panties', I'm a boxers man. lie la lie |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 09 Jan 07 - 06:03 AM How can you play chords - and sing unaccompanied, if you're doing one you can't be doing the other. If you're not wearing EM's shorts does that mean its just boxers - no wonder its windy today. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 10 Jan 07 - 04:02 AM I'm confused - does unaccompanied mean singing without an instrument or performing solo? Does JB rap? Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 10 Jan 07 - 06:45 AM Ah, I can see the cause of the confusion now. Breezy uses the term "a capella" for singing without any instrument, and "unaccompanied" for performing alone with an instrument (e.g. guitar). I think I'm right in saying that most people (including me) would use "unaccompanied" to mean the same as "a capella", which is why some of you were confused by Breezy's use of "unaccompanied". I tend to use "solo" to refer to performing by myself, as opposed to in the band or duo (etc.) - I think that's less confusing, and you can use it in conjunction with "unaccompanied" or "a capella" if you like, to indicate performing unaccompanied on your own. That means you can sing unaccompanied with other people, using the definition above. Which sounds a bit strange, I admit... Blimey, I think I've confused myself now. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 10 Jan 07 - 07:03 AM Crikey Scrump Did you write all that unaccompanied At least no one has resorted to the 'playing with yourself' level of humour I went to Hatfield this morning and it was bucketing - sun is out in Redbourn now, though - I might take me jumper off I think JB does sing 'a capella' at Herga but I'm not sure if he leads or accompanies others or bans people from accompanying him - Lets ask him everybody JB........................ |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 10 Jan 07 - 07:17 AM Does Scrump work for local government by any chance - he sounds like a planning officer. Torrential storm at 5am village flooded sunny and dry and warm now! Just going to pop me bikini on. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 11 Jan 07 - 08:50 AM Hi Ross, Cathie, Scrump etc etc. How's yer weather is it windy round your end. One of my engineers went home to get his sandwiches and found he's lost the front of his house. But what's more important, Duncan the dog and his kennel have also blown away. Sending out search parties for Duncan, he's a King Charles Spaniel for those who are interested. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 11 Jan 07 - 09:07 AM Crikey PA - that sound's bad It's wild, wet and windy here in North Buckinghamshire - I've had to superglue me wig on Cathy - Derek's going tonight That's right; make fun of my poverty and lack of socks! I bet you were marvellous last night Scrump - I heard a couple of ladies at the bus stop this morning talking about you |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 11 Jan 07 - 09:15 AM North Buckinghamshire eh! You'll be getting whippets and pigeons next. Is there an East West and South Buckinghamshire. No word on Duncan. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 11 Jan 07 - 09:22 AM Yeah, it's a very strange shaped county - very long & thin from north to south I haven't seen Duncan fly pass the window yet Snoopy could fly At least the sandwiches were okay - whew - yummy yummy |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The Unicorn Man Date: 11 Jan 07 - 12:04 PM Yes it is not like me to be drunk on any afternoon. I have normaly sobered up from the morning by then, ready for the evening. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:15 AM Wind update - Duncan the dog was found at the mother in laws, the roof was found all over Worcestershire and the kennel has not been found at all. The Installations Manager was found in the pub. So alls well that ends well. Still blowin a gale here. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:23 AM The Installations Manager was found in the pub. So the old saying "it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good" has proven to be true then. Glad the dog was found having landed safely from his (presumably) first flight. Strange, I replied to Ross's post yesterday but Mudcat seems to have eaten it. Unless it got blown away too? (Has anyone else ever had that happen? i.e. making a Mudcat posting only to find later on that it has vanished. It's happened to me a few times, but not often enough for me to be sure it's not finger trouble) |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 12 Jan 07 - 03:25 AM I forgot to add: unless the pub the Installations Manager got blown into only sold Greene King ales (to Unicorn Man). |

Jez night was very good yesterday. I hope there'll be no wind tomorrow - I am off on an M25 jaunt and want the bridge open. pleeease. Then it's rugby and work and Vinn at Hitchin on Sunday. So vacuuming is on the back burner. I am still waiting for my Christmas puddings in the post so I will leave the Christmas tablecloth on until they arrive. Nice weekend all - I'll keep my eyes open for loose kennels in Kent. Cathy |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Jan 07 - 09:35 AM Hi Cathy and Ross I missed Vin last night (was a bit knackered, and had seen him not long ago). Glad you enjoyed him anyway Cathy. Yes, the Mondays at Wymondley have finished - I guess if anyone wants to start them up again, they could ask the landlord? (We have our band practice on Mondays as a rule, which is probably the main reason we stopped doing them.) As for the Friday gigs there, yes they are still on, but I can't remember who's on this month. I'll ask Alan tonight and report back. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 15 Jan 07 - 09:41 AM Hi Unicorn Man At least the Buck's Head doesn't sell Greene King. Alan ########################################################################################### Thought you might like to know that there's a Barn Dance at Harpenden Public Halls on Saturday 27th January with Fiddlin' Around, caller Barry Goodman. The dance starts at 8:00 and finishes at 11:30, and costs just £8.00 a ticket. Fiddlin' Around are an exciting twin fiddle band put together by Junction 24 frontman/fiddler Brian Stone with the intention of developing a high energy acoustic string sound that is also uplifting and exciting to dance to. The two fiddlers work together so that an interplay of both rhythmic and melodic variations will produce a dynamic flow of exhilerating fiddling. The band is keen on promoting the interest/popularity in French Canadian and Cape Breton music as well as music from New England and North America. The dance is promoted by English Miscellany, who will provide a display-spot at the interval. Hope to see some of you there! Cheers, Barry Barry Goodman 54, Ickleford Road, Hitchin, Herts. I thought I had the night off so didn't bring my guitar, but unexpectedly had to play a song (to accompany Alan) at Jez's request, and Steve "The ref" kindly lent me his guitar (I couldn't borrow Jez's because his is left handed, and I would have had to stand on my head and face the wall to play that). Jez lent me his plectrum though (I nearly said pick but I thought you lot would start making jokes about digging up the car park). |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 18 Jan 07 - 07:32 AM Me again Aren't bricks wonderful little things? The trellis on the wall of my house has been trying to escape in the wind, but the clematis won't let it. So what do you use to weight down the end of the to stop it waving about everywhere? bricks! It's like the old days when you used one of your stockings as a temporary fanbelt. Mind you - I will have done it all wrong in somebody's book - either killed the clematis or bent the trellis. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 18 Jan 07 - 07:39 AM Oh I see - sorry about the bar staff. You are hot about such matters. I like the quips - do you comment/laugh/correct when he says these things? |

You're all much brighter than us in the soggie north. The man on pop quiz on radio 2 yesterday was from Barton le thingie. He won, he was very good. Was it Ross? Yes, this Friday 26th for Malc Hobbs (8:30-9:45) and the Buffalo duo (9:45-11:00) at Wymondley (sadly I won't be able to come along to this as we have another gig ourselves). |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 23 Jan 07 - 04:31 AM Unicorn Ceilidhs present... FRIDAY 26th JANUARY 2007 - FENDRAGON Fendragon are a ceilidh band based in Cambridge, who play traditional English folk music, with some Irish, Scottish, French and American influences. They are a popular feature of the local ceilidh scene, and in demand further afield. Mary Humphreys (keyboards) and Anahata (melodeons) are both well-known, and here they have teamed up with Dave Holland (fiddle) and Gina Holland (flute), to create a versatile band that love playing for dances. "Lovely stuff" according to Verity Sharp, BBC Radio 3 More information at http://www.fendragon.co.uk The Caller for the evening is the young and effervescent Andrew Swaine, also from Cambridge. Andrew believes that ceilidh dancing '…is lively, accessible and unencumbered, a living tradition of community dancing for fun. Enjoyment is more important than accuracy'! http://www.swaine.me.uk/ The interval entertainment this month is from the Brafront Guizers, who will perform their particularly off-beat but definitely seasonal Mummers Play at Hitchin! http://tdrg.group.shef.ac.uk/Gallery/Brafront2004.htm Unicorn Ceilidhs take place generally on the last Friday of the month at Hitchin Town Hall, Brand Street, Hitchin, Herts. Doors open at 7.30 for an 8.00 p.m. start, with an 11.30 p.m. finish – entry is only £8.00 for adults and £4 for children under 14. Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 24 Jan 07 - 05:48 AM Thanks Ross, had a look on there yesterday its seems not to have been up dated since 2003. Just wondered if anyone had seen them recently. Did they really meet down lovers lane? How did you know that. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 24 Jan 07 - 07:21 AM Sorry - I'm tempted to say I work for the Sun Newspaper - but You know I only ever count bricks The site is old It's got their gig list for 2004 on it They are named after the pub - what a lot of Bull |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 24 Jan 07 - 08:54 AM Hi PA I had a look at the Laners website - don't look the Lovers Lane type to me. (Check out the shirts). Why are so many folkies called Dave, Derek and Martin? Enjoy your evening. It was a nice evening at Dunstable yesterday. I hadn't seen Bert or Pat since the New Year and it was good to catch up on Winter weather on a houseboat. They will be at Barton next week. How late into 2007 can you still say Happy New Year to people without looking like you're a nerd with a comic relief red nose on your car 6 months after the event? And to finish the News with the weather report - snow has melted away in sunny Stevenage. I was very thoughtful and cleared the snow off my husband's car windows this morning. It was great fun - I wanted to do the whole cul de sac. BTW. A white van marked 'Data Agency' or suchlike drove at a snail's pace in, around and out of the road yesterday lunchtime. Very disconcerting. What information do you think they could they be collecting? |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 25 Jan 07 - 05:33 AM Why not build your own hovercraft JB - they're practical and a boom to cross lake travelling Nothing sucks like a Dyson - that's what the workers thought when they moved their factory to Indonesia Did you know if everybody on Earth pointed their hoovers at the moon simultaneously it would cause the dinosaurs to come back to life |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 25 Jan 07 - 05:40 AM Ooerr, I'm glad you told us that, Ross. We'd better not do that then. Those dinosaurs would make a right mess of the garden... but at least they might scare off next door's cats. Hmmm, maybe it's not such a bad idea after all... Have a good time at Redbourn tonight. (I can't go as we're doing our gig mentioned above, in The Lord Roberts, Mkt Sq, Sandy, Beds, from 7:30 pm, free entry, haggis for all, tonight. Not that I'm plugging it of course) :-) |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 25 Jan 07 - 06:37 AM Dyson's are rubbish! They're too heavy, too fiddley, too temperamental, they don't get into the corners, not even with the tools. Mine has sat at the top of the stairs for 3 years, I only use it for doing easy bits upstairs. I've got a real vac for downstairs. Ranting Finished - its safe to come out now. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 25 Jan 07 - 07:53 AM I'm with you PA. My old Dyson's in the loft - I think the new models may be better. Wasn't there a thread about Dysons? What's even more worrying is that Ross may be spending his spare starry nights in the garden, pointing his vacuum cleaner at the heavens and analysing the effects on the moon. I bet the flowers run and hide when they see him coming. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 25 Jan 07 - 08:14 AM Yes Cathie, I too would be worried about Ross, anyone who makes a living from measuring bricks has to be watched very carefully. Ross has probably seen the flowers running and hiding................... Going to see the Laners tonight will report back tomorrow, has anybody seen them, will I be the only person there??? Could the room be full of lonely Dyson's on a night out? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 25 Jan 07 - 08:21 AM I don't understand what all the problem is with measuring bricks. I thought they were all roughly the same size (approx 9" x 3" x 4.5" or something like that). Why not just measure one, then say the rest are all the same size as that, and you could take the rest of the day off? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 25 Jan 07 - 09:08 AM Well exactly - I think it may be a cover for something else. Measuring up bricks, hoovering up the stars ????????????? something not quite right there. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 25 Jan 07 - 09:25 AM Go on - mock the inflicted - just because I'm certified One brick's fine - but you buggers (the general public) want them stuck together so they form ghastly shaped boxes to live, work and play in I'm measuring a block of flats today that would make a klingon armpit look attractive And they've taken me hoover away and given me a broom - where should I stick it? I'm not going to Redbourn or Sandy tonight - I'm going to Winkwell Did the Daleks evolve from a vacuum cleaner? Cheers for the joke PA |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 25 Jan 07 - 10:46 AM Our new house, should we get planning permission ha! is not made of bricks, its wood. Do you measure planks. Oh no, now there's going to be a billion posts telling my why we should not have a house made of wood !!!!!!!!!! Wheelie bins have evolved from daleks, some of them speak! They tell the council if you're throwing too much away, they have a chip (its probably on their shoulder). |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 25 Jan 07 - 11:04 AM I suppose so - we have posh words like carpentry & joinery I only get them infrequently Wood is not bad - it works very well in other countries It takes a lot of the hastle out of building a house Have a good time at the Laners tonight I'm off now to point me broom at the moon And have a good time tonight who ever you may be and where ever you may go |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 25 Jan 07 - 11:21 AM I wouldn't measure wood - it comes in all different shapes, sizes and lengths. Stick to bricks - much more straightforward. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 26 Jan 07 - 03:33 AM Morning all, went to see the Laners last night at our local club. Can highly recommend them fantastic voices and harmonies, great humour, mainly shanties and songs about some bloke call John Barleycorn (who's he? he wasn't very popular, loads of people wanted to kill him). Guest appearance from Malcolm the Mallard, who joined in on a song about a dog called Timmy who sank a ship. Very sad song about horses in the first world war, they almost couldn't sing it. Great night. In two weeks we got two chaps who play guitars and stuff and then two weeks after that we've got George. Nasty day here sleet, grey skies, very cold and people driving around with no lights on at 7.30 in the morning. Off to Gt Yarmouth tomorrow and back in the same day. Must be mad. Loads of work to do. Have a good weekend all. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 26 Jan 07 - 06:01 AM Yeh right, but I still don't know who he is. |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 26 Jan 07 - 06:39 AM Don't you mean "I still don't know who he was" - I thought he was dead :-) There have been Mudcat threads explaining the song if you want to search for them, but basically the song is about one of the most important activities in the world, i.e. making ale from barley (JB is the personification of that wonderful beverage). Well, that's my view and I'm sticking to it - there are probably lots of other interpretations (there always are when it comes to these old folk songs :-)) Glad you had a good time at the folk club. Our gig went down OK, although there weren't as many people there as we hoped for. Still, it must have been OK because the landlady gave us a 'wee dram'. Another one tonight, this time we're doing a PTA barn dance in a village hall - more neeps, tatties and haggis (not sure if we'll get any free malt whisky this time though! But fingers crossed... :-D) I'm not planning to eat haggis, neeps or tatties this weekend - I'll have had my fill of 'em by then. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 29 Jan 07 - 06:01 PM I was a travelling folkie yesterday and enjoyed the Folkaholics very much at Winkwell. You all were very well received by the customers and bar staff. The photos I took aren't too bad, so I could print some, forge signatures and go round the pub selling them. It all sounded very spirited, yet unobtrusive. The range of instruments and songs added variety, the songs were a mixture of humourous and serious and there were opportunities for all there to join in from time to time. Allan was brilliant. I am glad you enjoyed the evening Scrump. His song about the man with the cracked china cups who had problems breathing really caught me unawares - thank goodness he had given me my tissues back by then. A lot of the other songs he sang were on his last CD and it was good to hear them live again. On the ground reporter Cathy Clipboard Q. What does a folkie want with two Dysons? Only John Breeze knows the answer. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 30 Jan 07 - 06:02 AM Sure can PA - what are you like in a helicopter? Our weather girl on Look East is called Sally Weather and she does everything apart from tell you the weather We see her dancing and singing and visiting exotic places and generally playing I'm a celebrity Local news is often shelved in favour of more worldly news with tenuous links - if a war breaks out anywhere, then you can bet that the key players would have either gone to school in Norwich or carry handbags made in Suffolk A14 - thats just up the B28938 |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 30 Jan 07 - 07:43 AM In a helicopter? well much the same as I am on the ground? We have the weather but no news, Midlands Today concentrates on Wolverhampton and the local newspaper reports on Droitwich which is miles away. I didnt realise Suffolk is the handbag manufacturing centre of the world, must admit I didnt notice much handbag carrying on my journey. Lots of big lorries though, maybe they kept their handbags in the glove compartment, along with their gloves. The question is - what do you keep in your glove compartment? Travel news, please do not go too fast along Pikes Pool Lane, because the part that goes down hill under the byepass has gone lumpy and you will take off! |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Ross Date: 30 Jan 07 - 10:44 AM I don't use my glove compartment - it could be an entry point to Narnia for all I know My car is filthy - how do you cure this problem? Suffolk handbags are the finest in the world - made from the finest larks vomit - finely woven by trained Look East presenters Do they still call it the black country (Wolverhampton) or isn't that PC anymore? |
Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: The PA Date: 30 Jan 07 - 11:31 AM Narnia sounds like fun, perhaps Midlands Today could report from there. Cure for muckey car - big bottle of washing up liquid and a power washer. The black country is a very scarey place just on the edge of the forgotten forest, my husband travels there every day to the land of the big yellow digger. He get up very early before the border guards are awake. |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Scrump Date: 31 Jan 07 - 04:42 AM Blimey, I can remember Wincey Willis - she was on ITV or C4 breakfast TV, wasn't she? I did watch that for a while back in the 1980s. I don't have time these days though. [I'm doing a support spot with Alan tonight and I'll be singing my new traditional song about a young fiddler who discovers an old traditional song he heard in his youth in a pub. No time to learn the words though, even though I wrote them :-) ] |

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds From: Cathie Date: 02 Feb 07 - 07:17 PM Hello to any stray weekenders. Two thirds of Folkaholics were better than none. Very good in fact. An exciting night at The Cricketers. Q. When is a mobile phone allowed to ring during a folk session? A. To allow up-to-the-minute breaking news of the actions of bomb disposal units in the surrounding locality.(as long as the singing carries on - bit like Carry On up the Khyber really - as Redbourn fell to the rebels on the common, strains of 'where have all the flowers gone' floated harmoniously through the eerie silence).
