Subject: Utah Phillips on the radio From: Fortunato Date: 23 Feb 00 - 01:32 PM Dec 16, 1998 my wife to be and I were pre-honeymooning in San Francisco. While lost crossing town in search of the ultimate sushi experience who comes on the @#$%ing radio but Bruce Phillips. It was great. His brand of singing, story-telling and proselytizing (BS )was perfect for radio. Anyway I was just sitting here thinking how dam dull radio is around here (with the exception of Mary Cliff's Folk show saturdays and old time radio on Sunday nights)and wishing Bruce was picked up by other public radio stations. So the question is: Has anyone heard his show? Does he still do it? Can it be heard outside of SF and who do I lobby to get his show on NPR (National Public Radio in the US)? Fortunato |

Subject: RE: Utah Phillips on the radio From: Art Thieme Date: 24 Feb 00 - 01:11 PM The above blue click thing didn't get me there. It's the site for the National Hobo Association---a fine group of guys & gals. Utah and Larry Penn and Luther The Jet (former hobo king who dubbed me The Prince Of Per in an official proclamation that I'll always treasure----all were in Cleveland for a seminar at the Folk Alliance bash last week. To get directly to a site within the NHA site where you can hear Bruce's show go to: www.hobo.org/radio.html Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: Utah Phillips on the radio From: Fortunato Date: 25 Feb 00 - 10:40 AM I sure am sorry to be so redundant, Bill. Excuse me for repeating a thread that had already been repeatedly repeated. I'll have myself shot at my earliest opportunity. If I screw up like this again, just ignore the thread, that'll show me. Subject: RE: Utah Phillips on the radio From: Joe Offer Date: 25 Mar 00 - 03:17 PM I'm wondering if anybody has found a complete archive of this show - as far as I can tell, the hobo site offers only a few episodes, and this show has been running for a number of years. In the Sacramento area, the show is broadcast at 11 AM on Sunday, and I'm usually in church at the time (Utah Phillips might have a comment to make about that). I don't know if it's live on Sundays (I doubt it), but the station that broadcasts it is in nearby Nevada City, California, which is where Phillips lives. So, anyhow, has anybody found a complete archive of the show? I never watch or listen to anything now if I have to follow a schedule. -Joe Offer- |
