The first site is a bit far to walk back to as well - so if I'm driving anyway it won't make much difference. There is a lunchtime session planned for the pub at Barrow Haven, but I'm not sure if you can get there from the first site without walking back down West Marsh Lane to Ferry Lane, as there's the beck in the way. BTW - Are you a Caravan Club member Mrs Duck ?

Of course if anyone knows a friendly farmer, with a spare field (and preferably a water tap) then that might sort the problem.

Dave, I'll broach the subject with the neighbours this very weekend, and then get back to you. I saw Mrs D when I popped into the Black Dog (Yorkshire Gathering Main Stage) with the Viking on Wednesday, and she was saying that it is now unlikely she and Geoff will be over for the whole do, and may only make an appearance.

The field next to Butters Wood, in Goxhill (over the road from the Caravan Club, bounded by the railway line, Soff Lane and College lane on the map identified by Dave Bryant) has been offered, subject to confirmation, for Mudcatters attending the Mudcat Eurogathering 2004 - May 1st-3rd who want to camp or caravan.

Part of the field may be under hay so the numbers on-site would have to be negotiated There is a small amount of hard standing for caravans and the like but no hook-ups. There is a tap but no toilet facilities so you would have to bring your own loos.

There is a strong possibility of a marquee being available for after session socialising.

If there is any interest in using this site then I could follow this up.

If there are likely to be a few other caravans, campers etc, we'll be quite happy to use it. If we're likely to be there on our own, we'd probably rather park our van next to Skipjack's. We shouldn't need a hook-up in May, about the only thing that would be useful is somewhere (ie a drain) to empty a porta-potti if it becomes full. We have a whole herd of gazebos if needed.

Oh no more from jOhn - did you fill that hole in again ?

Lack of elsan dumping facilities doesn't really matter to us - we only ever use it for recycling beer.

Perhaps we ought to find out who else is interested in camping or caravanning. According to one of the postings above, the Ducks are not planning to bring their caravan now - any change to that if there is this site available ?

So - Good Morning Campers - please declare yourselves.

'I think we should be trying to get all the mob who went to Stony Stratford there at least. That would include Micca & Kat, LtS & Manitas, and McGrath. ... What about McFat, Raggy and co as well.'

Well I've been forgotten but I was at Stony Stratford too... this sounds fun... and close to home I'm in Hull... several of of us did try to point out early on that this clashes with Moor & Coast http://www.moorandcoast.co.uk/   ...I know McFat is there... he's on the guestlist! & I'm fairly sure Raggytash will be there too. Can I say I feel very offended at being called a Troll for mentioning a previous committment that prevents me from welcoming you all to my home town... have fun ...

Brid Widder, although I don't believe I am your accuser, I feel I ought to reply as the organiser, and say that I am sorry you feel insulted. I really didn't want all the shouting for and against the date that happened earlier on, as I only wanted two things. Firstly, that everyone accepts that the Eurogathering always happens on the first weekend in May, and secondly that I want everyone to do what they want, and attend the function that appeals to them most. I don't think the rather shrill debate on date was helpful, and I regret even more that it has left you feeling insulted, and ultimately ignored. I did respectfully point out to Dave that a lot of folk he mentioned had other festivals they intended to support, and that it was OK with me.

Please accept my apology for whoever insinuated you were engaging in Trolling, and I hope that you and all the regulars going to the Moor and Coast have a wild old time.

Brid widder - I'm sure Andy/MudGuard didn't mean any harm and used the term 'trolls' tongue-in-cheek! He's VERY mild-mannered ... Hope you'll have a great festival, anyway!

As to the campsite: I'm not sure whether I'll be bringing the car, but if I do I'll need a parking space, so I'd be interested.

I will need space for my camper, but all of the camping options seem to be at least a half hour walk, and I don't do them.

Barrow Haven looks nearest and a hook-up is always nice (just my .08333p) but I'm happy to go with the flow - I do think we campers should all be at the same place.

Let me know what you all decide.

cheers, Terry

Guest, it is being held from Friday 30th April to Monday 3rd May 2004 in the sleepy hamlet of Barrow Upon Humber, which nestles between the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds and the broad majestic Humber, in North Lincolnshire, close to the Humber Bridge and the place where jOhn from hull lives. But it might be in Stourport on Severn in July. An carping workshop is offered, abitiously priced at £57, but anyone interested will be unable to apply by PM.

The programme sketched out on the back of a fag packet, which is already in chaos, is:-

Friday night (30th April)      Mixed song and tune session in Six Bells, Barrow
Saturday Lunchtime (1st May)   Mixed song and tune session in Haven Inn, Barrow Haven
Saturday afternoon             Cultural tour of Hull, by coach from and to Barrow (these are high points of Eurogatherings)
Saturday night                Centrepeice concert, Barrow Village Hall, featuring a performance by Cara, open mic and separate singaround and tune sessions (if wanted)
Sunday Lunchtime (2nd May)    Mixed song and tune session in Royal Oak, Barrow
Sunday Night                   Survivors' Session in Six Bells, Barrow
Monday (3rd May)               Depart to seek liver transplant.

£57???? What a rip-off!!!!!! There are sessions all over the world (most of which I've been to) where you can learn how to be as good as me for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If any player has got £57 to burn on such a pointless excercise, they can just put it behind the bar at the Geriatric Eel and Pram whilst us experinced sessioneers rip along with gay abandon!!!!!!!!!!

Indeed!!!!

etc. etc.

My dear Lard Skip, I am concerned about the lack of activities on the Monday. My liver transplant may well be scheduled for that evening, and as it is a public holiday, I suggest a festive bout of grease-wrestling (whelks optional) during the daytime hours.

Oh why does the winkle always turn to the right,
Turn to the right, turn to the right
Why does the winkle going upstairs at night
Put his little nightshirt on and turn to the right
Tail first he toddles up to bed
He pulls his little door down tight on his head
But why does the winkle always turn to the left
When he comes down for breakfast in the morning

I am informed by my friends at Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex that this doesn't hold true for Whelks though, as Neptunea Contraria the reverse spiral Whelk is quite commonly found in that vicinity. Is this the reason that you are enquiring about how the Whelk wrestling entrants are organised in their dexterity, Oaklet ?

Incidently, Essex Girl cooks a superb Paella as will be attested to by the various attendees of our BBQs - perhaps she could use Whelks in one ?

(Actually, I forgot the kazoo for the Portaferry meet, but replaced it with a more effective form of terror - my fiddle... I will be bringing that to the People's Republic of 'Ull, as the Greg the Oil Baron postively encourages wanton beginners' fiddlin'. I reckon 10 sets of the few polkas I know will blast the whelks into submission.)

Whatever you do Fib, don't give that Skip E-Wing £57, otherwise someone will post with an amusing name, using exclamation marks and bold type. I have just prodded Ripper - the most promising of the wrestling whelks. What a difference a bit of carbo and tartrazene can make! Fiesty and aggressive with a deft and damaging touch of the foot. At this rate, entrants may have to sign a disclaimer.

Oi! Dave Bryant, I can assure you there is nothing reverse-spiral about my whelks. This sort of thing may be ok in Walton-on-the-Hyphens, but this is the north, where a spiral only goes in one direction. Such accusations, across a crowded bar would end in the premature demise of a pint pot, a hasty evacuation of the premises, bloodshed, an ambulance and handshakes in the morning.

'appen.

Sorry Dave - grease, not mud. Nudity optional, although Oakley's proclivity for getting nekkid in the jacuzzi (before he sank under the bubbles in an untimely death) might suggest a general state of deshabille.

I don't think that grease is good for Whelks - we'll have to check with Oakley, but I think it might have to be mud. I'm sure that the Whelks will be naked - except for their shells of course - so you might be asking for an unfair advantage.
