I recently attended a vocals workshop, part of which was devoted to emulating the sounds of bass, snare drum and hi-hat. Can anyone please provide details of exercises or relevant Web sites? At this stage I'm not into the face or chest slapping routines, just the basic stuff. Regards, John

Not sure if this is any help John, but The Mills Bros. did some astonishing vocal-percussion stuff in the 30s. I'm sure a check of the web will turn up some of it.

Joe Craven (of the David Grisman Quintet) does some nice vocal percussion. Also check out Keller Williams. He sounds like a whole band at once! He's still small enough to be approachable and is generally a friendly character. Finally, check out Len Graham. He incorporates some interesting rhythm while lilting mouth-music. Slan, Rich

There is an all a'cappella group that does their rhythm vocally called the Edlos here. It's pretty amazing how much it sounds like instruments... One fellow in the group, ED, is my friend. I bet he might be able to be informative.
