Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: katlaughing Date: 17 Dec 10 - 06:39 PM Just got a call from Connie, Pat's sister in all but blood.:-) He had a haematoma on one side of the incision which they took care of, but also found one on the other side. So he is headed into surgery as soon as the doc gets done taking out someone else's gall bladder! They have been walking a very fine line between plasma, frozen platelets(or somesuch) and lasix as well as the darn coumadin. As Connie says, he never does things by half. I think she said they did two units of plasma this morning, then things went dickie with his BP etc. so they readjusted with four units of something else plus the meds. Sorry, I didn't have a pen handy to take notes. There is concern about anything else which may be causing bleeding. As Connie said, we hope it's just that he is on cuomadin, and, just after the appy, went nuts from after-effects of the anaesthesia and pulled out his PIC line as well as a drain AND tried to pull out the Foley (catheter!) so maybe he pulled a stitch or two? The greatest concern is the aortic aneurysm which they won't know about until they get in there. After twenty years of working at the same hospital Pat frequents, no one has approved Karen's request for FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) yet, so any extra energy might be helpful there. Michael has really stepped up to the plate and proven himself to be the fine young man we all knew he could be. He has been staying with Tristan when Karen has been at work, helping to keep Tris' routine as normal as possible. He has really matured and they have reason to be proud. I will be consolidating your messages into one email to send to Connie who will take them up next time she goes to see Pat and Karen. Over the next few days he will probably be out of it because of the anaesthetic, again, but I know Karen will appreciate them. He will be in CCU after the surgery. Connie will call me if anything changes. May he come out all right. Love, kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: katlaughing Date: 17 Dec 10 - 10:58 PM LOL, that's kind of what Connie said to him. Or, I could sic Amy on you. You saw her sweet, quiet, nice to pets and her mother side, but she can be terrifying. Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: katlaughing Date: 18 Dec 10 - 11:50 AM Just spoke with Karen who spent the night at Connie and Wayne's. He had a rough time in surgery. He had been in huge waves of pain from the haematoma and when they went in there, they took out a litre of blood from both sides of his belly. They've been having trouble with his blood pressure because of his haemoglobin, so they gave him two units before surgery, during surgery and after surgery. He spiked a fever last night and there is a bit of pneumonia in the upper lobe of his lung, left side, I think. He is on a vent, but they are starting to wean him off of that. He is in ICU. I forgot to ask about cards, but will send Connie and email and ask. Despite all of that, Karen sounded very upbeat, though tired, and Connie did, too. Karen is going to go see him, soon, and then will go home for the first time in a couple of days where she will spend the night. She hasn't seen the boys in a couple of days and is looking forward to it. Please keep sending your best, mostest powerfull Mudcat mojo and let's push him over the hump (oh, that's a camel, not an elephant, huh? Well, let's just give him a huge lift, what say you?!) luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Rapparee Date: 18 Dec 10 - 11:57 AM I don't think he's in any condition for humping right now. He's got to get a lot better for that sort of thing. So, he's got to get better. That there is known as "logic." |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: chazkratz Date: 19 Dec 10 - 09:10 PM Patsclaw, what you really need is that which I've been promising you all these weary years, your Golden Shower, so on this occasion I'd like to finally keep my promise, especially with the help of Fellow Mudcatters, before you go to bed tonight, as you make your final premorphial* bladder draining, think of Pat. Before you loose the stream say "Here's to ya, you old malingerer, you," then cut loose. And Pat, you've gotta open your mind to the loving streams from all over the world. I know the effect would be greatest if we could unite worldwide for a single instant so for maximum effect I'd like to suggest that all Muddies time their ablutions for 10 p.m. Greenwich, but I know you're all too dense to figure out what time that would be in your own zones, and maybe it's best anyway that we don't flood him but just keep a modest stream aimed his way for the next 24 hours... I love you, Pat. Keep your head above water. *premorphial (a word I coined for the occasion--referring to Morpheus, god of sleep and soporifics. --seed |

Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:01 AM Karen is on her way up to see him this morning. She'd sent me a text, but I don't have that service on my phone. It's too expensive and I'd never use it.:-) Anyway, he is stable right now. On multiple antibiotics for the pneumonia which is the cause of the fever. They are keeping him sedated and he is on some painkiller, too. He was on the vent, but I *think* she said they switched him to CPAP as it is less stressful on his heart from him getting aggravated with the vent, but don't quote me on that. (She was driving and I didn't want to ask a lot of questions. I don't like bugging people on phones when they are driving.:-) Because he is still retaining fluids a bit, they are being very careful in how fast they replenish his blood. Some level went up to 8.7..I think she meant haemoglobin, which I think would be good to have rise. She said she'd let me know, later how things are, after she sees him. He is aware enough to recognise her and she did let him know about all of us and, even the ones coming out of the woodwork (Pseudolus, bseed, JP & others!!) It's a helluva way to get us all gathered, isn't it? Thanks, folks, luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: maeve Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:07 AM Welcome news. Thanks, kat and Karen. I'm still going to think of the equipment noise and shaking here as being his recovery racket. Maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:22 AM I been in non stop Prayer lately. The old goat just drive me nuts There are people that one never meets in this life that you feel you have known your entire life .. Spaw is that. He struggles with his health, goes through hell and all he ever does is ask about everyone else and how they are feeling and if they need anything. Never complains about what he goes through and most don't know the half of it yet all he does is worry about others and how they are doing. For those who don't know him, you could never understand the depth of this man's heart for others even as he comes across with his posts as gruff old geezer. He is special and this world needs more Spaws in it. He drives me crazy with his health ... all I can do is pray cause that is all I have but I tell you what, there isn't a better person anywhere and he doesn't deserve the hand he was dealt. He also doesn't complain about it either. When he gets better all he will do is laugh about how he picked on the nurses and joke about everything. Most would sit around feeling sorry for themselves but he will just laugh and say "what the hell was that all about" He is one of a kind a gem of a person. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:34 AM And many new people haven't figured out yet ... Spaw will only call you a "fuckwit" if he cares about you. He won't waste time arguing with someone he thinks is a total hopeless jerk ... usually the thinking goes like this ... you are too good a person to write stupid shit hence you will get "fuckwit". if he didn't care about you , he would say nothing .. Most of the time it is to get you to laugh ... that is Spaw and his brain in action. Many don't get it |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Ebbie Date: 20 Dec 10 - 11:44 AM Many of us have been around here long enough to have 'got' that long since. Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 20 Dec 10 - 02:00 PM Ya Ebbie we all know it but most of the new people don't. One summer I worked in a brake line factory when I was in college. I really sucked at the job. My foreman was an ex Marine Corp drill Sargent from WWII. His name was Whitey. Now Whitey would chew you out like no one ever before or after could. He would press his nose to yours and scream every insult you could imagine as his spit flew in your face and could even make up some words as he was cussing ya. I was a screw up, I would get "see me in my office" which of course was the mens room to get my face ripped off with cuss words and insults. One time the office manager came into the line. I knew they were going to fire me because I heard it threw the rumor mill (I actually deserved it). I overheard Whitey say come to my office. I could hear him ripping the manager a new one about "the kid is new, he will do fine" now if you have any problems with one of my people, I will tell you so get your ass back to your desk before I do a little dance on your face. Here was this guy putting his own job on the line to protect me. I didn't get fired, worked the rest of the summer and tried to be better at that miserable job. That is the way Whitey was made, he could chew you out but nobody else better try ... Kinda like Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 20 Dec 10 - 04:41 PM Ya know you've made it to the inside track if he calls you a "broke-dick jadrool" and says you ain't got shit fer brains. If he uses the term "fleabitten" to describe ya too, then ya know you've made it to the inner sanctum where only the big Kahunas hang out. You might even be one of a select and tiny handful of people that can define the term "folk music" with total authority and put an ailin' bodhran in tune. - Chongo p.s. If so...I pity you! Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 21 Dec 10 - 03:48 PM Well, he is "seriously cranky" according to Karen, so she says to tell you all that he's coming back! "Spewing" is the word she used for when he refers to a bunch of the stuff he's just been through. I told her, I think he's entitled to spew a bit. He is off the vent. Still has the fever and pneumonia, but able to keep his pulse ox from 91-96% ...that's GOOD! This time the personnel are being really nice, letting Karen is to visit on her 3am lunch break and all (last time they were really buggers about visiting hours.) She was just getting to sleep when I called; had been up and at it for about 25 hours with work and taking Michael shopping. Tris will be going over to stay with Connie and Wayne and they will all be there there for Christmas, sans Pat, of course. So, they are not going to have oyster stew because that is Spaw's speciality. Karen has Christmas off, so that's good, too. She says to send you all her love and thanks. He knows we're all working on him.:-) Now, breathe, please!?! All o'youse! kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Bobert Date: 21 Dec 10 - 08:50 PM Danged, Spawzer... Now look what you done... You have Sins threatenin' to come and drag yer sorry ass outta that warm hospital bed and let Karen have it... Man, if that happens then you have just set back the development of "man" (not womanz) back, ahhhhh, let's see??? Maybe a couple of weeks... You want that??? Hell no, you don't!!! I say that the best defense is a strong offense... Know what I mean??? I'm talkiin' Reg Boyz here... I'm talkin' flagellation... Are we gonna let a bunch of womenz push us around, 'er what... I tell ya' what, Spawzer... Seein' as yer flagellator ain't up to the task I'm gonna have my Couzin Rufus make a few calls... Yeah, we know how to fight fire with fire... No, no... Please don't light that match... That was just one of the metaphoric things... Put the match down... Man, you could blow this joint up with this su7pply of "man's not-so-secret-weapon".... So, that's the plan, Spawzer... You detract the nurses and me, Couzin Rufus and maybe he can get then Reg Boyz (they related, ya know) to take care of Sins... She won't know what hit her... Okay, she prolly will but no matter... But just in case, I recommend that you take them bed sheets and tie yer ass to that bed... (Have you thought this through, Boberdz???) Why you ask??? (Well, it sounds pretty juvenile...) You got a point??? Not to worry, Spawzer... Ol' hillbilly got this one figurated out purdy danged good... Sins won't get within a hunnert feet of you... I mean, she'll hit that wall of, ahhhhhh, cologne and she'll be like coughin' 'n sputterin' and she'll have to come back here an' tell the rest of the womenz that we men definitely have the upper hand when it comes to this shit... Sho nuff will... But the best part about this is that after yer well an' ya' ain't got no half crazed womenz threatenin' to throw yer sorry ass out on the street from the ICU ward that we can get Couzin Rufe and the Reg Boyz together fir a little Christmas carolin' (wink, wink) next year... Know what I mean??? Maybe we can can Santa Claus all beaned up and fightin' for the good side??? Meanwhile, lock yer door and teach the nurses a code-knock to get in... B~ |

Once you get it up, I suggest hanging some tinsel on it and putting a star on the top. If you are a married man, maybe your wife will help you hang some colored lights on it. Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 22 Dec 10 - 02:45 PM I hope Spaw continues to do well. Sometimes I think he gets ill so he can challenge the docs to find out what's wrong. He seldom gets simple straight forward illnesses. This apparently started out as an appendectomy. Of course most of us have those when we're in elementary school, not 112 years old like Spaw. A simple in and out of the hospital would do. But No-o-o-o-o-, Spaw has to start spitting up blood or whatever and scaring the bejesus out of his family and his doctors and his friends on the Mudcat. However, he will have my prayers and my hope that he will get well soon. Roger in Baltimore |
Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 22 Dec 10 - 02:59 PM Well done, LeeJ. You've done the guy proud. Just spoke with Sister Connie. He is definitely on the mend, imo and hers. Troublesome stuff first: the sputum culture came back and the infection is one of the ones which are notorious for hanging out in hospitals. (I *think* I have the correct name of it, if anyone wants to know, please PM.) The best of all possible is that it means it is in his lung and NOT near his valve and/or intestines near the surgery site. REALLY good news is his temperature is down to 97.8!! They have backed off on the pain meds and sedatives to the point that he hollered to Karen to get a nurse in there ASAP because his ass hurt! His first words, from all accounts after they took out the breathing tube. Since he's been on his back, and I know he has back problems, I can really relate. It really CAN hurt after a time! (I know you guys will take this and run with it...too many good lines there, eh?!) Connie said he might get moved from SICU, today. She's sure they wouldn't mind as he has been so cranky.:-) She's sure he won't get out for Christmas, though, and they are planning on holding off the big Christmas meal until he is out, probably have it on New Year's Day. On Christmas, they will have other easy to fix and graze kind of food. Thanks, folks. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Dec 10 - 05:34 PM I have an idea here. Chongo needs money "bad" with the holidays approaching. "Real bad." He's willing to work at any time. Spaw needs additional security while he's bedridden, someone to watch over him and make sure he gets treated right, and that's where Chongo comes in. Chongo is willing to stand guard over Spaw and be in his room at all times to make sure that no one does anything they shouldn't and that all is copacetic. He will be heavily armed, because he always is. Spaw need fear nothing with Chongo on guard at the foot of the bed. He's willing to do it for very reasonable wages too, and will while away the hours reading his entertainment magazines and perusing those nice pictures that fold out in the middle pages. Phone information in Chicago and ask for the number of Chongo Chimp, Karen. Do it now. |

No, Spawzer can make a call to the Reg Boyz and they'll not only do a fine job but give Spawzer some new material for when he gets out... B~ |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Dec 10 - 06:21 PM Bobert, it just breaks my heart how you are always running down poor Chongo, a hard-working ape with a big heart, a guy who always bends over backwards to please other people and do a good job. I think you should reconsider all those thoughtless things you have said about him and make amends before his feelings get hurt and he comes down there, busts yer arms and legs, punches yer lights out, and stuffs you headfirst down the hole in the backyard privy... ;-) |

And if ya' wonder why things might seem a little, ahhhhhh, strained between you and Chongz it's because he's heard those stories, too... In other words: Bad Answer... But, heck, this thread is about Spawzer... Not a stenkin' monkey... |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Little Hawk Date: 22 Dec 10 - 07:39 PM "Rollin' in dough"?????? Yeah, sourdough! There was an industrial-sized accident at the Orillia bakery the other day, and I got caught in the "blowback". I was purchasing a loaf of rye bread when there was this godawful "WHOOOMPF!!!!!!!" sound and the entire kitchen area at the back exploded into the shopping area at the front. I and 13 other innocent people were engulfed in a tidal wave of rapidly expanding sourdough. They had to call ambulances from as far away as Gravenhurst to deal with it. The sourdough came to life like in that movie "The Blob" and it crawled down the street and engulfed the City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce. 39 Orillians have vanished! The army had to be called in to cordon off the downtown. I barely escaped alive. So as usual, Bobert, this street you keep getting word on is grossly misinformed. I bet they still think Elvis is alive down there too. Say...did you just call Chongo a monkey? You did, didn't you? Boy, when he gets ahold of you....! Ouch. It will not be nice. |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Bobert Date: 22 Dec 10 - 08:12 PM He is alive, LH... Saw him riding thru the Walmarx parkin' lot just today... Had the 8 track blarin' and a couple hot chicks in that Coupe de Ville... I mean, he was lookin' good for 70... Still has hair... Maybe ya'll related... As for the explosion at the bakery??? No, can't say I heard about it... Doesn't matter tho 'cause don't matter how many bakery expolsions yer part of you know what I mean... They call it cabbage, man... Greenbacks... They say yer stack make the Chrysler Buildin' look like a dog house... Yeah, you can try to divert attention to it but when you sittin' on that kinda bread everyone knows it 'cause... ...ya' can't hide money!!! No, sir... As for Chongz??? Monkey, ape??? Ape, monkey??? Hey, if he didn't want to be a monkey he should have picked different parents... Just stuff a Valium in him and stick him in front of some "I Love Lucy" reruns and he'll be fine... Word on the street is that monkey's love Lucy, too... Okay??? Now can we get back to poor ol' Spawzer who is gonna have to forgo his annual shimmy down the chimney routine and maybe his New Years Eve Flagellation Celebration with the Reg Boyz... Oh well, there's always next year... B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Rapparee Date: 22 Dec 10 - 08:40 PM I have investigated, quite thoroughly, the stories about Chongo and Chinga and have come to the inescapable conclusion that they are completely true. Chongo did indeed leave home and thereby forced his sister into a Life Of Shame in order to support their aged mother. I cannot agree that Chongo would be a good bodyguard for Spaw, as records of the Chicago Police Department clearly show that every time he sees a ventilator he thinks it's some sort of bong, that he's shot up Emergency Rooms when they wouldn't give him morphine and/or cocaine, and that when he was once hired to empty bedpans he flung the feces at passers-by. |
Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 22 Dec 10 - 09:17 PM And now, back to our regularly scheduled program...ahem...:-) Karen just called before she left to go to work. She confirmed he is "much better" today, though he is in isolation as they do not want the nasty stuff he caught to get passed on to any other patients. Of all the ones he could get, typical of him, he got the worse, but his doc says it IS treatable and his fever is gone as of today. Anyone working at the hospital, who has to work with him, has to suit up with gloves and aprons, no masks, though. Visitors have to wash hand thoroughly. (I can't believe all the straight lines I can feed to you guys!) Moving along, his BP is good and he's able to keep his O2 sats at 91-92% on the cannula. And, get this...you're gonna love this..things are starting to m-oo-v-e! He had some gassy cramps today and has started to eat a tiny bit!! I love getting the scoop from Karen; she doesn't hold anything back!:-) She also said to please let you all know she can feel your support and all and thank you, big time. I forgot to tell you all the most important thing! Tris wanted to stay home alone and so Karen let him and it was so fine, they are doing it again, whilst she is at work over this night. He called her on his ipod in the morning and told her he slept really well and the dog and cat kept him company, plus he knows how to make peanut butter and jelly toast, so all things were right in his world, other than Pat not being there, etc. This was another one of those BIG steps Pat and Karen have helped a remarkable young man, who was to have been a "throwaway" kid, accomplish. A sign of peristalsis starting up again. Now, that doesn' mean it is a good thing for society at large, but that's not a medical concern... |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: GUEST,Wys on a Santa Run Date: 23 Dec 10 - 12:54 PM But it is time to start the ball-kicking off yet? Like do we have to wait for the starting gun at the Superbowl to drop kick his nuts? Oh wait, we do hockey, not football.... hockey fights surpass Cups.... so that's OK. The Pens will be kicking Caps ass on Jan. 1, and Caps fits into the word catspaw just fine. Capstaw.... nonononono the palindromes and anagrams and spoonerisms (lions, tigers, and bears OH MY) are too much for ole Crimmiss-crazy-strokebrain..... suffice to say we will be "thinking" of him and the whole fam especially on THAT day. Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 23 Dec 10 - 01:40 PM Farting with style takes practice, Perfection takes time, its a gift, You've first got to learn all the basics, Like pushing one out in a lift. Those silent but violent are classics, With friends it's a really good game, Fart in a crowd at a party, Then watch to see who gets the blame. Now once your technique has been mastered, You'll know what your bottom can do, But ALWAYS remember - don't push too hard, Coz one day you might follow through !!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 23 Dec 10 - 01:44 PM A fart is a musical instrument, It comes from the island of bum, It travels down the valley of trouser-leg, Whilst making a musical hum. A chemistry student named Tate, was heard to remark to his date, "Because of the stink, a fart is, I think, just Spaw in a gaseous state." |
Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: GUEST,999 Date: 23 Dec 10 - 01:54 PM If anyone will be seeing Pat, please let the old fucker know that I seldom pray, but I have been for him, just in case it works. He is a great writer--a humourist who ranks up there with the best of `em. This time of year is the worst to be stuck in hospital--although there is really no good time to be there. I have never spoken with Karen via the `cat or e-mail, but pass on to her for me that she`s got one helluva man there, farts and all. Merry Christmas to your family, Pat. I have admired you for many years for a good number of reasons; get yer ass home ya lazy sob. Best wishes to you. Bruce Murdoch |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: olddude Date: 23 Dec 10 - 03:47 PM A fart can be quiet A fart can be loud Some leave powerful Poisonous clouds A fart can be short Or a fart can be long Some farts have been known To sound just like a song Some farts do not smell While others are vile A fart can pass quickly Or linger awhile. A fart can create A most-curious medley A fart can be harmless Or silent, but deadly A fart can occur In a number of places And leave everyone With strange looks on their faces From wide open prairies To small elevators A fart will find all of us Sooner or later So be not afraid Of the invisible gas For always remember That farts too, shall pass But none have that have linger have come close so far It the one that hit mudcat by the old master Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts etc. From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 23 Dec 10 - 08:47 PM I posted this sometime back on the News of Note thread, home of quirky articles ================== Patently odd: thunder-stealing grundies and ... Australia is home to many quirky inventions, and they're worth $12 billion a year to the economy. It's those SBDs - silent but deadlies - that give us away. But the telltale smell of a secret gas alert could be a thing of the past thanks to a unique Australian innovation that has just hit the shelves. The designer of 4SKINS, Gilbert Huynh, says although odour-neutralising fabric has been used in sportswear for years, his range of men's undies is the first time the material has been used in intimate apparel. "Everyone has experienced those awkward situations and I thought that it would be great if you could let one off and no one could smell it," Huynh says. After extensive trials - with friends and family - Huynh launched 4SKINS this month and says interest in the innovation has been beyond expectation. "I'm amazed at the number of women who are buying them for their boyfriends or husbands," he says. "We have actually had more women buyers than men." |

Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 24 Dec 10 - 08:26 PM Oh you good people, this is hard...Pat is having a tough time. I just talked with Karen. The fever is back up. He is on BiPap to keep stress off of his heart. He's having a lot of diarrhoea, but did test negative for c-diff(sp?), which I think is some kind of bacteria and it is good that he tested negative. They are going to do another blood culture, tomorrow, as well as a CAT scan of his belly. One of the people Karen spoke to told her there is "something cookin' in there, they just don't know what." He is on a lot of morphine. Karen has always, always been upbeat and positive. She knows him so well. I asked if she is frightened and she said yes. She is also tired. She and the boys are at Connie's and Wayne's for Christmas nad will go see Pat, tomorrow. Then, on Sunday, she is going to take a day of rest and stay home. She may also come visit Mudcat. I told her not to worry about it. He's got the whole world holding him and we'd do the same for her. Let's let that Light shine in whatever way we know/believe or not and see him through this! Karen, you are everything Spaw has said and more. With much love and gratitude, kat |

C-diff, (clostridium difficile) is a bacteria that is normally present in the gut, but sometimes they overpopulate when competing bacteria are wiped out with antibiotics. symptoms range from mild to lethal, and can be treated successfully if caught in time. Subject: RE: BS: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE From: Rapparee Date: 25 Dec 10 - 11:42 AM Call me Fishmeal. Some years ago - never mind how long precisely - having as usual little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me on shore (her father having caught us in the act), I thought I would sail about a little and see the watery part of the world. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the circulation of my splendid genes around the world. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I feel a burning pain when I urinate; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before coffin warehouses, and bringing up the rear of every funeral I meet; and especially whenever my typos get such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically passing large volumes of malodorous intestinal gas - then, I account it high time to get to sea or at least out of town as soon as I can. |

But sho nuff be nice to have that #2 in the books and have Sp-awzer home and healthy for New Years 'cause word on the street the Reg Boyz gotta somethin' big planned... That's all I can say... B~ |

Subject: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-26 From: katlaughing Date: 26 Dec 10 - 02:25 PM Pat is back on the vent. His O2 sats drop way low without it. They have him on morphine which doesn't help with that. When they put him back on it, they sucked up some really nasty looking crud from his lung. They reopened the appy incision to clean out a bunch of blood clots and have packed it and left it open. They have given him something to stabilise the rhythms of his heart. Karen and the boys are at home, today. She's making a special dinner, doing laundry, giving her fish some attention, being loved up on by all the cats and the dog and she is staying home for the night. She will go back to work tomorrow night, but will see Pat before that. Last night she and Tris were up 'til midnight playing Mexican Railroad Dominoes and had a great time. Michael has a friend coming to town. One day at a time sounds trite, but that's kind of what we've got going on. Karen says "Thanks" for all you are doing. kat |

Karen, I just started up a fresh $#@!-reduction candle for yuns guys, as they say here in Youngstown. This morning I had a gig as the liturgist in church. I don't know if the location during the prayer makes a difference or not, but wotthehell, it don't hurt, eh? Michael, I look forward to seeing some more of your artwork sometime. I'll see if Amy and I can stop by sometime. I'm proud of how well you've been handling this hard situation. Tris, I'm so proud of you being on your own for the night. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-26 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 27 Dec 10 - 06:22 PM Spaw, Hospitals are one of the least restful places to hang out, and they're usually not warm enough. The television selection is poor, and some poor sod comes around at 3am and pokes you for more blood work. Is this any way to spend the holidays? Please overpower that infection, get the oxygen levels back where they're supposed to be, and get yourself out of that place! If you need an interim place to heal, we can always set up a new room in the Mudcat Recovery Ward and let you have Nurse Ratched all to yourself. Won't that be nice? SRS |

Subject: UPDATE 12-27 From: katlaughing Date: 27 Dec 10 - 07:50 PM I was just talking with Karen. She was in the room with Pat. He is out of it under morphine, but did try to open his eyes and I spoke to him of you all, just for a second whilst she held the phone to his ear. It's still too early in the evening for her to have spoken with anyone, but here's what she told me: he's stable, has a feeding tube, fever still up around 101.5 at 4p this afternoon. They did another blood culture which she will find out more about sometime this evening, before she goes to work. It will tell them if he is septic or not. (No jokes, please guys?:-) Tris went to work with the garbage guys, today, and earned ten bucks. He is a happy camper. Michael got to go see his girlfriend.:-) We're in a Holding Pattern for Patterson for now, folks.:-) |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-27 From: katlaughing Date: 27 Dec 10 - 10:41 PM I think Pat would like it if those of us who want to, and are able, would watch The Mousehole Cat and how she tamed the Storm Cat who had big cat paws. It's a beautiful story and animation in three parts on youtube. Some how it just kind of reminds me of what Pat is going through and it's neat she finds safe harbour, again. |

Subject: UPDATE From: katlaughing Date: 28 Dec 10 - 12:55 PM Just spoke with Sister Connie. His bloodwork came back and he is NOT septic!! Yes!! On the other hand, everything is about the same, still vent, still morphine, still fever, haemoglobin is coming up very slowly, but we've been here before with that. When they scanned him they saw blood clots in his belly, but they also saw air pockets which may mean a different infection than the lung gunk. Karen is sleeping after a night of work. Connie will let her know I got an update from her and will leave it up to Karen as to whether she wants to call, tonight, or call if there is any change. MMario, I told Connie about your posting and she got chills up her back. Good to see you. kat |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: Janie Date: 28 Dec 10 - 08:19 PM Not septic and stable. No change otherwise is much preferable to a change for the worst. Another little sigh of relief. Keep haulin' Spaw, and we will keep hauling along beside you. They made some changes to the website checker thingie at work, and as of this morning, the Cat is blocked - I guess because it is a social networking site. What that means, 'Spawser, is I'll be sending out thoughts of care and concern even more often, since I won't be able to peek in on the thread periodically during the day for reassurance. Even worry has it's upside! Karen, Michael, and Tristan, rest up and also feel all the care and love surrounding you. |

So I'm now praying/good-thinking along with everyone else; just sorry I didn't get on the job much earlier. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-28 From: open mike Date: 29 Dec 10 - 03:38 PM come on, light a match under that guy and let's launch him back to health and home...well, maybe not! when my daughter was born 28 years ago we had planned to have candles in the hospital room, but that was not allowed...due to the use of oxygen...in spaw's case it is for an entirely different (gas) reason. best wishes for recovery and return to your rambunctious self, SPAW!! visualizing healing for Pat, strength for Karen and growth for the boys. |

Subject: UPDATE 12-29 From: katlaughing Date: 29 Dec 10 - 04:15 PM Just spoke with Sister Connie. Okay, good news, first: His sputum is now clear, so whatever they've been using to fight the infection in his lungs is working! His blood is also clear! They are kind of at a loss as to what is keeping his fever up. Tylenol is not keeping it down, so they have packed him in ice. He has a fever blister, so they've ordered an air cushion of his bum..talk about riding on air.:-) Because he's been on the vent and morphine for so long they can't really do a very good evaluation, from what I understand, so after much consultation, Karen gave them permission (tough decision for her), this morning, to do a tracheotomy, so he is still on the vent, but it's connected to the trach instead of going down his throat, which may improve things as they will be able to back off the morphine and he can communicate in writing. They've been having to keep him sedated so much on the morphine, it's been difficult. Even though this sounds dire, it will give them a better idea of what's going on. I probably will not hear from Karen, today. Connie took a few calls for her to do and she will be back at work, tonight. Tris and Michael continue to be great brothers and sons and taking care of home. I feel a little bit better about all of this, today. I think the trach and getting off the vent may actually prove to have been good timing. As Sister Connie said, we've seen him come back from the edge, so to speak, before, and I don't think he's used up nine lives, yet, plus he's got all those Karmic Brownie Points that big ol' heart of his has earned him. There ya go, folks. Please keep up the good work. luvyakat |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-29 From: John MacKenzie Date: 29 Dec 10 - 05:03 PM I have been down the trach route myself, and it was tough, but they only do it for your own good. So keep writing the rude notes to the nurses Pat. At least you can blow up your own air cushion, so that's a help :) |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-29 From: gnu Date: 29 Dec 10 - 05:20 PM SOB! Well, at least the trach will alleviate immediate problems, and, indeed, possible future problems. I still have a rasp that I don't think will ever go away (two years now) and I wasn't vented for anywhere near as long and I was out of it the whole time... I mean inert. The air ride suspension system is better than installing standard Munroes. They might tend to chafe the ball joints over time. Plus, you can jack it up or down depending. Yeah. Poor attempts at jokes, but it's sommat I gotta do. Spaw, Karen, lads... hang tough. Much love, buddy. |

Subject: UPDATE 12-30 From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 10 - 11:30 AM Well, I got my wires crossed when speaking with Connie, yesterday. Just spoke with Karen and the trach is scheduled for 2p this afternoon..that's Mudcat time. And, he should be able to talk with it by placing his finger over the opening. They are slowly waking him up more by backing off on some meds. They are still not able to find out what is causing the fever, but one of the nurses said next they might do a head scan for sinus problems and Karen was after herself for not thinking of that...he always has sinus problems! So, if they get that checked out and can start treating it, there we go! Today, Karen sounded better, talking of when he gets to feeling better, he's going to need her more. (I was reminding her to take care of herself.) Thanks, folks, and please check out the other thread I started about a Sing for Spaw. kat |

Keep up the good work gal, he'll thank you later. Well, no, maybe not since he's been in a stupor a lot of the time, but we certainly thank you! |
Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-30 From: mouldy Date: 30 Dec 10 - 12:49 PM Well known side effect of morphine is constipation..... Hope it does turn out to be sinuses. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-30 From: katlaughing Date: 30 Dec 10 - 01:02 PM Ah, I think the morphine was more for the extreme pain of the haematoma which were removed, then the re-opened and packed incision, and the vent as well as the sedation needed to keep him on the vent. Buggered sinuses (as I know from personal experience) can screw up your breathing and give you excruciating headaches. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-30 From: Bobert Date: 30 Dec 10 - 09:17 PM Japanese Algebra ain't tough at all, Capt'n... What is tough is tryin' to squeeze out a "Silent Sam" while yer at the alter in front of a hunnert people gettin' ready to get hitched... That is tough... I mean, there I was, 19 years old an' standin' at that alter with right at about a hunnert people behind me... Let me repeat that last part... "behind me" and, well, we all know that the Reg Boyz been known to lite a few but lotta folks don't know that my Couzin Rufus is related to the Reg Boyz thru marriage... Yeah seem that his wife, the ever lovely Retha Mae, was a Tompkin girl from Ohio that Rufe met when she was a roller derby queen with the "Yunks-town Honeydrippers"... So Rufe was my best man so he figurated that he should throw me a bachelor party behind the Sweet Spring General Store and so we was up eatin' cheezy pizza and drenkin' Iron City half the night before the big weddin'... Now the Sweet Spring Store closes at 2 o-clock in the mornin' which means no bath rooms... I wakes up about half an hour before Iz 'spozed to be at the church, ain't bathed 'er nuthin' and got bad growlin' sound in my innards... So I look over at Rufe and he's passed out leanin' up against of the back of the store and I yells, "What time is it" so he check his Spiro T Agnew Time-ex wristwatch and say's, "Time to get to the church, like right now"... Ten minutes later we at the St Andrews Mission Church where the weddin' 'is sposed to be and I find my bride, who ain't a real happy kinda bride, an she has my suit in the back of the car and so I put it on in the St Andrews port-a-john 'bout as fast as I can, run the church just in time for the organ lady to pound out that weddin' music on the old upright piano... So there I was at the alter, pissed off bride, tummy gurglin' with a hunnert people, ahhhhh, behind me... The priest/minister or whatwever the guy was had some kinda speech impediment... No, maybe I had a hearin' impediment... No maybe bvoth of us was impedded, I donno... All I knew is that I had me a severe little southbound situation brewin' that might not make it to the I-do's or I-changed-my-minds part of the deal... I mean, I was a'squeezin' and a'squeezing 'bout as hard as a 19 year boy could do and my keens was shakin' and my knees was shakin' and my hands sweatin' and, well, folks... There's only about so much squeeze in a 150 pound 19 year old... So what's a guy to do??? We was almost down to the vows where the priest/minister/whatever says "I know pronounce you man and wife" when that little southbound train jumped tracks and decided that he'd be the "main attraction"... Well, first of all, I learned alot in that moment... I learned to never go out the night before a weddin' and get all drunked up on Iron City and eat up with lousy pizza... I learned that Couzin Rufus ain't best-man material fir the bachelor party he gave me behind Sweet Spring General Store... I learned that Iron City and pizza and a hunnert people "behind" you ain't a not good combination... I learned that ya' can't trust a fart no matter how it promises to behave, or in this case, not... And I learned that 19 must be too young to get married... Well, that one is what she said as she and the other hunnert folks were fightin' each other tryin' to evacuate St. Andrews Church... Didja ya'll see the news coverage??? Spawzer... That is fir you buddy... No, it was just one girl outta millions so it don't compare to some of the stuff you and Reg Boyz can get goin' butt, ahhhhhhh, but I thought it was the right story to tell jus'[ knowing that once it got back to ya' that I had "spilled the beans", so to speak, that that would put a fire in yer belly, so to speak, to get yer ass, so to speak, back into gear and get the heck outta that hospital and come hear and kick my ass!!! Ya' hear??? Ol' hillbilly loves you... Bobert |

Subject: UPDATE 12-31 From: katlaughing Date: 31 Dec 10 - 08:50 PM They put the trach in and within an hour started talking about moving him to an acute care facility. They do have one at the hospital, so that might work out okay. Karen says he is improving. Opened his eyes and was excited to see Tris; tried to smile, but is very weak and still on some morphine. The fever is still around 100 degrees with tylenol. If he goes to acute care it would likely be for at least 25 days. Karen thinks once they get him off the meds and stuff he will improve more rapidly with breathing and all. At the acute care place they would be able to bring him back up whilst keeping an eye on all of his various "problems." I am not going to call as often, now. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-31 From: GUEST,khandu Date: 01 Jan 11 - 04:25 PM Mr. Spawzer always gave me the uplift I needed with his oddly perverse sense of humor. Many times I have laughed till I cried. I have gone through three computers due to Coke being Catspewed from my nose after reading his posts. But I am ever grateful to him for his poem I found years ago...well here's the original posting of it: Subject: A poem by Spaw??? From: GUEST,khandu - PM Date: 31 Jan 01 - 07:37 PM This is exciting! In an old curio shop in Memphis, I found an old magazine. It certainly wasn't the type of mag that I, khandu, would subscribe to; however, having never heard of it before, I purchased it. It was an oddly put-together mag, very limp. It was titled "LESSER MEN- the magazine for the not-so-well endowed". This issue was dated 11-79 and featured "Readers Responses". I came across this poem near the front of the mag. It was written by "Anon. from Ohio". It sounds like Spaw to me! Spaw, you are a wonderful poet! You should share your poetry with your fellow Catters! So without further ado, A Poem by Spaw: "ODE TO MY PHALLUS O Phallus, my phallus, why art thou so teeny? T'would be a Prize, if ye were even half the size Of an Oscar Meyer weinie. O phallus my phallus, why art thou so teeny They taught me much, they taught me well To mine own self be true To do my own thing Alas, my own thing is much too little to do O Phallus my phallus why art thou so wee T'would give me much pleasure if thou wouldst only measure At least two inches, or three O Phallus, my Phallus Why art thou so wee I saw her there, so beautiful and fair I was filled with desire To stoke her lust into a bright flame, Into a raging fire. Sweet words, wine ,and poetry Music so soft, Surely that would do the trick She giggled and tittered Then she guffawed "I've not even seen a candle with such a small wick!" Have I angered the ancients, those powerful gods Who created this kit'n'kaboodle That they should give others such wonderful rods And leave me with this pitiful noodle. O Phallus, my Phallus Why art thou so damned short! The End" I, khandu, of course, cannot relate to the problem expressed in the poem. Yet, I am moved by his sense of futility and inadequacy. You are good, Spaw. khandu My best to ya, old buddy; I love ya, man! ken |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-31 From: Amos Date: 01 Jan 11 - 06:33 PM Many years ago, during a similar crisis, the Gaelic Goddess penned this song purely on behalf of the Great Flatulent Spaw, which I tender here with great affection: It's In His Heart (words by çine Cooke; music by A. Jessup) D D G How do we value a man, after all? D D A Why do we love him, and answer his call? D G Oh, where do we look for the mark of his worth? D A D Or the reason that he is here, walking this earth? D Em G It's in his heart, D A It's in his heart, D Em There's no other place to start, A D It's in his heart. D D G Can you sum up a man by the coin that he holds? D D A Or whether he's young, whether he's old? D D G Have you ever pondered the compass that guides D D A To follow the straight path, wherever it lies? D Em G It's in his heart, D A It's in his heart, D Em There's no other place to start, A D It's in his heart. (Bridge) Em F#m Em F#m Oh, look in his eyes, they're bright and they're true, Em F#m G A No matter what colour, they're looking at you, Em F#m Em F#m And what do you see, when you look deep inside? C C A A A man full of love, honour and pride. D Em G It's in his heart, D A It's in his heart, D Em There's no other place to start, A D It's in his heart. D Em G It's in his heart, D A It's in his heart, D Em The soul that canÕt be torn apart, A D It's in his heart. |

(I may be irredeemable, but my coupons aren't) All this from a horse-spittle veteran who apprieciates from experience the value of Mudcat Support. Karen, if they continue him on the Morphine after he gets home, stock up on Stools-Ofteners and Senna. I'll vouch for the fact he'll bloody well need them. The good thing, is that his mind would be Morephined-ish than ever. Remember, Spaw, that Acute Care means that it will be administered by a cute nurse or two. An upgrade so that you won't roll out of bed. *And remember, YOU have no expiration date, either. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 12-31 From: Rapparee Date: 02 Jan 11 - 01:16 PM Many years ago on the shores of the Mediterranean, people would risk their lives diving to collect a particular kind of shellfish. Many died, but the shellfish yielded the dye known as "Tyrreahian Purple" and was so costly that it could only be purchased by the very wealthy and powerful -- emperors, for example. Recent archeology has brought some new facts to light about the preparation of and the ceremonies surrounding this legendary dye. First, after the shellfish were brought to shore and scraped out of their shells, they were placed in large vats. They were then soaked in urine to dissolve the chemicals which produced the dye. The urine was flung onto the bodies of the shellfish by war heroes, those who had lost an eye or a limb in the battle and to fling the "chamber lye" was considered a great honor. When the dye had been extracted, the vats were washed and the shellfish (which previously had been toxic because of the chemicals) were now fit to eat. Again, the only the heroes were permitted to partake of this culinary delight. This select group of warriors were highly honored and were known throughout the Mediterranean countries as the "One-Eyed, One-Armed, Flying Pee-Pee Purple Eaters." Even today they are honored in song. |

What a load of crap that is. Feel better soonest there Pat. So, bad taste jokes are in order? How many gender non specific people of an alternative life style does it take to change a light bulb? Eleven. One to actually change the bulb, two to write an affirmative anthem about light bulbs in general but only the new non incandescent ones, and eight more for the drum circle. From: Rapparee Date: 03 Jan 11 - 09:55 PM More reading from "Moby-Dick": ...BOOK I (Folio), Chapter VI (Sulphur Bottom). - Another retiring gentleman, with brimstone in his belly, doubtless got by scraping along the Tartarian tiles in some of the profounder dives amongst the rivers of Ohio. He is seldom seen; at least I have never seen him except in the remoter southern seas, and then always at too great a distance to study his countenance, but he is often heard and his sulphurous emanations oft proclaim his nearness much to the disgust of all others. He is never chased; he would run away with rope-walks of line as he choked those trailing behind. Prodigies are told of him. Adieu, Sulphur Bottom! I can say nothing more that is true of ye, nor can the oldest Nantucketer or Ohioan. |

From: ClaireBear Date: 04 Jan 11 - 01:37 PM A result like this is worth a whole New Year's Eve of the Dogwatch Nautical Band attempting (badly) to do Dylan: "How do you fee--eel?," "Oh-ho, we gonna fly down in the easy chair" (for some reason the boys fixated on that one), and "Take your shoes off, do not fear, bring that bottle over here" (I did my sexiest solo on that one). We're pretty sure you could hear how bad we were all the way to Maine, so we were surely quite audible in Ohio. The morphine probably just made it a touch more tolerable. Spaw... 2009 Chrysler 300 with all that fancy crap like a nav screen and voice recognition and so much of it that I'll never read the manualsss... I drove it two days ago in the daytime, parked it in the garage and shut the door, unlocked, when I got out. We had snow yesterday and the temp dropped to -10C last night. Today, it was locked and the key fob wouldn't open it. Valet key. Fob in the ignition and nada and I couldn't remove the fob. Boosted it. No problem. Checked the trunk to see if a thief had opened the trunk. Nope. The only thing I can think of it that the fob got "pressed" in my pocket in my house, the car started and when it shut off the climate control fan kept running or the park lights stayed on. Any thoughts? Take yer time getting back to me as I understand you are busy with more important things. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: Rapparee Date: 05 Jan 11 - 10:09 AM ...There seemed no sign of common bodily illness about him, nor of the recovery from any. He looked like a man cut away from the stake, when the fire has overrunningly wasted all the limbs without consuming them, or taking away one particle from their compacted aged robustness of posterior exhalation. His whole high, broad form, and most especially his head, seemed made of solid bronze, and shaped in an unalterable mould, like Cellini's cast Perseus. Threading its way out from among his grey hairs, and continuing right down one side of his tawny scorched face and neck, till it disappeared in his clothing, you saw a slender rod-like mark, lividly whitish. It resembled that perpendicular seam sometimes made in the straight, lofty trunk of a great tree, when the upper lightning tearingly darts down it, and without wrenching a single twig, peels and grooves out the bark from top to bottom, ere running off into the soil, leaving the tree still greenly alive, but branded. Whether that mark was born with him, or whether it was the scar left by some desperate wound, no one could certainly say. By some tacit consent, throughout the voyage little or no allusion was made to it, especially by the mates. But once Tashtego's senior, an old Gay-Head Indian among the crew, superstitiously asserted that not till he was full forty years old did Ahab become that way branded, and then it came upon him, not in the fury of any mortal fray, but in an elemental strife at sea and, peering through the auger-holes in the wall of his shower-bath, it was determined to run completely down the front of his body, under the feet, and again up his back to meet as a circle does. Yet, this wild hint seemed inferentially negatived, by what a grey Manxman insinuated, an old sepulchral man, who, having never before sailed out of Nantucket, had never ere this laid eye upon wild Ahab, gave forth the opine that it was the track of a zipper. Nevertheless, the old sea-traditions, the immemorial credulities, popularly invested this old Manxman with preternatural powers of discernment. So that no white sailor seriously contradicted him when he said that if ever Captain Ahab should be tranquilly laid out - which might hardly come to pass, so he muttered - then, whoever should do that last office for the dead, would find a birth-mark on him from crown to sole and, pulling the tab of the opener, would allow him to again spring forth in life, as full and complete as before he went to sea. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE better! From: Rapparee Date: 05 Jan 11 - 08:58 PM Okay, he's in for it now! ...With much interest I sat watching him. Savage though he was, and hideously marred about the face - at least to my taste - his countenance yet had a something in it which was by no means disagreeable. You cannot hide a fart. Through all his unearthly gaseous emissions, I thought I saw the traces of a simple honest heart; and in his large, deep eyes, fiery black and bloodshot bold, there seemed tokens of a spirit that would dare a thousand flatulent devils. And besides all this, there was a certain lofty bearing about the Ohioan, which even his uncouthness could not altogether maim. He looked like a man who had never cringed and never had had a creditor, nay, not even a dose of Beano. Whether it was, too, that his head being shaved to his ankles, his forehead was drawn out in freer and brighter relief, and looked more expansive than it otherwise would, this I will not venture to decide; but certain it was his head was phrenologically an excellent one and indeed his whole figure promised good head. It may seem ridiculous, but it reminded me of General Washington's head, as seen in the popular busts of him. It had the same long regularly graded retreating slope from above the brows, which were likewise very projecting, like two long promontories thickly wooded on top with a veritable Stromboli beneath. Queequeg was George Washington cannibalistically developed. |

Subject: UPDATE 6 Jan 2010 From: katlaughing Date: 06 Jan 11 - 09:35 PM Just spoke to Karen and it just keeps getting better!!! Fever is down, vitals are good...the nurses say it is time to get him up and m o v i n g! Still has the trach and they put in the vent at night for rest. Best sign is, he's getting antsy, trying to ask "when are they gonna do this and that" and going nuts 'cause no one can understand him. Karen is going to go get a small write on-wipe off board at the office store. I asked her didn't they have any there. She said they have them all over the hospital, just none for the patients. Gee, ya'd think? He is acting happier and his writing is getting stronger, so that will help, too. She will be talking to them tomorrow about where he will go for rehab. In a day or two, she might have an address for us to send cards to; she'll let me know. I feel badly, every time I've called, lately, she's been asleep! This time she needed to get up for work, so I didn't feel so badly, plus she was planning to call me anyway. This is GOOD news!! |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 6 Jan From: Rapparee Date: 07 Jan 11 - 10:00 AM Paul was John Bunyan's brother. John wrote that awful book, and Paul "disgraced the family" (as the family history says) by hanging around with some blues babe. Ollie Cromwell finally tired of Paul always putting him down and had him chopped -- didn't even ax him. Paul high-lined outa there to the Colonies (and took the babe with him), where he lined up a job cutting trees chop-chop. The rest is history: Paul went on to be a big, big man and John also made some progress. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 6 Jan From: Rapparee Date: 07 Jan 11 - 08:42 PM jadrool: jadrool is the italian for cucumber and why italians choose fruit for derogatory slang remains a mystery. Subject: RE: Catspaw needs lots of good thoughts UPDATE 6 Jan From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jan 11 - 05:43 PM Folks, I tried to wash my cellphone, again, last night. So, this morning we went to get a new one. It wasn't quite right, so we went back, after lunch, to get a different one. On the way there, the first new one rang. I answered. It was Karen! I had no paper or pen with me, so wanting to keep my "intrepid reporter" status intact (in what, kat??!:-) I asked her if I might call her back in just a few. She said sure. Anyway, long story shortened...I didn't have her number, lost in the washing and couldn't call her back until now. So, here's the news: He is CRANKY! Always a good sign. He has been put in a stepped down unit and will going to rehab. When I called her back, she couldn't find the addy, so she'll have Connie email it to me. She found one she thinks he will really like. They got snow and it's been crazy with her working, going to see Pat, and Tris working with the street cleaning people. She said she was sleeping and heard a knock on the door, ran down the stairs, opened the door to see Steve there asking if Tris was available. She looked outside at the darkness and said, "Do they have school, today?" He laughed and told her it was seven PM. He needed Tris to help with snow plows, so of course, Tris has been in heaven. Got to go out with them AND when Karen came home he had the driveway, sidewalks, etc. all cleaned off for her, too! kat |
