I am trying to find the lyrics to a song by Richard Thompson. It's probably called 'Withered and Died'. The first words are 'This cruel country has driven me down, teased me and lied, teased me and lied.'

You know I've always wondered if Richard Thompson, one of my favorite songwriters, gets feelings like this out of his system by writing them down. If so, it's a good thing he's not keeping them in. And what beautiful songs.

It's on the Richard & Linda Thompson album *I wanna see the Bight Lights Tonight.* Same one that's got *Down where the Drunkards roll.* Need I say what I think of Richard for dumping his pregnant wife while they were on tour??
