TIME TO RING SOME CHANGES
TUIRSE MO CHROI

Heard this on the radio, but not who the artist was. Have any of you heard it? It was hilarious, all about how he can't dance with two left feet.

Thanks,

katlaughing

kat, it's hilarious and it's Richard Thompson! It's on his 1983 album "Hand of Kindness," which isn't his very best album ever, but does feature one of his classics, "Tear-Stained Letter." Of course, everything's relative. The not-very-best-album-ever of a musical God is still better than the very-best-album-ever of the rest of us mere mortals. . .

I suspect the song youre after is Two Left Feet by Richard Thompson. You can find it on his 1983 album Hand of Kindness and on the sampler The Electric Muse. J.

kat, if you wish to pursue your investigation into unconventional dancers, you could have a listen to Terry Allen's fine song 'Peggy Legg' about a one-legged dancer. It's on his 'Human Remains' album. Its chorus goes:

We all got missing parts
Right from the start
We got to live with
Bout all a body can do
Is just stumble on through
What God gives to it
All you need is a heart
An' just enough of a brain
To get your half-ass in
Out of the rain

Stewie.

From Richard Thompson's web site:

TWO LEFT FEET
Richard Thompson

1. O two left feet, two left feet,
How can you dance with two left feet?
Two left feet, two left feet,
How can you dance with two left feet?

CHORUS: I love you, honey. You're so sweet.
Just get rid of them two left feet.
You got no style. You got no beat.
All you've got is them two left feet.

2. Well, your hair is pretty and your face is a treat,
But I don't like your two left feet.
I'm not one to admit defeat,
But I can't win with your two left feet. CHORUS

3. Well, they're pulling people in off the street.
They all want to look at your two left feet.
Dance with Jimmy. Dance with Pete.
Don't dance with me with them two left feet. CHORUS

4. I dance with you and I land on my seat.
That's 'cos you dance with two left feet.
You could make my life complete.
Just get rid of them two left feet. CHORUS

REPEAT VERSE 1 AND CHORUS, TWICE

[On "Hand of Kindness" (1983), "Watching the Dark" (1993), "Live At Crawley 1993" (1995).]

This is why it's virtually impossible to teach a dog to dance you know.

He also guested on a Michael Doucet album which I can't bring to mind just now where it's cajunned up a bit and works a treat.
