if you are playing an english you will have to work out his notes, and change bellows in the same place an anglo would, to copy the rhythym sound., if you want an exact representation

on a brief listen he is playing melody, as regards chords or dyads he is possibly playing two notes together,button immediately below, an over simplification, sounds like hes straight up and down the rows. pm m the g m he knew peter and plays anglo, in fact he has one of peters anglos.
at a guessand after avery quick listen he is playing melody using thirds fourths and fifths, in two note dyads including the melody, and occasional full three note chords, as if he was playing harmonica with notes either side of the melody

Novice box-squeezer still seeks enlightenment on the whole chording thing. I mean, according to the 'chords' sites the first two lines should go like this (if you're playing it in F):

As I said in the OP, I've stuck in a few passing chords...

Iwould guess its in c or g or related minors, peter had a drone button on his concertina, and generally played up and down the rows, when i get more time i will try and work it out for you.

I combined the two threads on this song to keep all our information together.

I think what's interesting about this song is that Dylan put it in the form of an American gospel song, and I think he did a very good job of it - within those confines. It's fun and easy to sing, and it's very easy to harmonize with a song like this.

Excuse me for the thread creep,
but this in my opinion is one of Dylans more forgettable songs, I am sorry, Phil, but I find the song uninspiring, that is no reflection on Peter, who almost makes something out of this pile of drivel.

Just been listening to Peter Bellamy's wonderful version of "Death is not the end" and trying to work out what he's playing. According to dylanchords.info, the entire song's on three chords; the accompaniment of the verses consists of alternate lines on F and C, while the refrains have a few Bbs chucked in. (The chords are actually A, D and E, but it works better for me transposed ot F.)

After playing around with it for a while I've worked out an accompaniment with a bit more variation, breaking up what would otherwise be one long F with passing chords (Bb and G minor). But what Bellamy was playing was much livelier. I can't work out if it's just those three or four chords (in different orders), a wider range of chords or a melody line cunningly disguised as a chordal accompaniment (I/V chords?).

Could someone have a listen and see what they think? Anglo players' opinions would be particularly welcome, for obvious reasons.

Managed to find Peters version on Mr Bellamy, Mr Kipling & The Tradition, had it all the time!!.
I am amazed sometimes how much good material we are surrounded by and without a trigger don,t listen to or appreciate it.
I will now try to complete the set by finding and listening to Bob Dylan's original.

See if I can find the Peter Bellamy version, I have the Cockersdale version, it on "Wide open Skies". I wonder if Peter and Keith ever sung this together as they were great friends, does any one know?

Peter Bellamy stayed with us just before his untimely end as he was guesting at the local club. He did a version of "Death is not the end" that night and later sang it in our living room.

'Death is not the End' is on 'Songs an' Rummy Conjurin' Tricks'. Don't know if he ever sang another Dylan song. Perhaps this is one he (PB) never recorded?

I definitely remember that Pete Bellamy sang a Dylan song at the Neath Folk Club....and i am pretty sure it was a lesser Known song [for 1976] and one which went back to the earlier years of Dylan's singing career.

Well, he might or might not have sung Dylan, but he did sing Ritchie- I taught him our KY version of The Moonshiner Song, at the Newport Festival in one of its early years.

I remember Pete Bellamy singing at the Neath Folk Club in South Wales in about 1976..he was fantastic...I also remember being surprised that he sang a Bob Dylan song which I think came from the Basement Tapes.Please help me out!Can anyone name the song and would Pete have recorded it?
