NY Times Music Review: Her Folksy Parlor, Crowded With Family and Friends - tribute concerts at Town Hall.

"This tribute concert — which was filmed for a documentary — was one more reunion, fond with glimpses of mourning. The lineup included Kate's children, Rufus and Martha Wainwright; her sisters, Anna and Jane McGarrigle; and Sloan Wainwright, Rufus and Martha's aunt. There were also collaborators and admirers, among them Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Justin Vivian Bond, Krystle Warren and Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons).

"Along with the Wainwright siblings there were other second-generation songwriters: Teddy Thompson and Jenni Muldaur. Anna's husband and two children also joined in, and the backing band included the longtime McGarrigle sidemen Chaim Tannenbaum and Joel Zifkin."

In about 1978, our friend John Weldon, an animator with the NFB, asked us to record Wade's Hemsworth's Log Driver's Waltz which he was about to animate for the NFB Vignette Series that ran on CBC/Radio-Canada through the 80s. Most Canadians know us because of John's really funny film. The version of Log Driver on Odditties was recorded a couple of years later when we were doing music for a documentary. Kate sings the melody on the verses which is the way we used to do it and I pick it up on the choruses. Gilles Losier's fiddle puts it in the dancehall.
