can anyone help with lyrics to a song about the killing of witches, possibly during the inquisition? I have no idea what it is called but believe it comes from christy moore, it also has what might be an irish phrase repeated as a chorus.

Thanks Jon

Hi,

It's called The Burning Times and it's in the database... the "chorus" is a list of various names for the earth goddess......

The best version I've ever heard of this is neither by Roy Bailey nor by Christy Moore but by a Glasgow lass named Avril whose singing made my spine tingle both times I heard it. I've always wanted to tape it, but she is too shy. Thanks, Avril!

Susanne!! Yes this is a great song but I don't sing it because there are songs that only women should sing. Both Roy Bailey and Leon Rosselson sing it but they both pass comment that it should be sung by a woman. Another song in this category is Rosselson's "Don't get married girls". Men can only sing these songs with either guilt in there voices or with tongue in cheek. Avril would have put more passion into it....Cheers....Dan Kelly

Dan, I agree as far as Burning Times is concerned. Don't Get Married Girls should ONLY be sung by persons with their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks! I quite like Sean Cannon's version of it ...
