Whose pigs are these?
Whose pigs are these?
They are John Potts'
I can tell them by their spots
And I found 'em in the vicarage garden.

I THINK Barbara Brown taught it to me !

Have you seen this site? It's not Mac-friendly. I can hear the midi files, but can't download music or lyrics.

No, Monique, I'll take them in any language!
Grishka, do it!
There are several websites with good rounds collections, but most of them have been around for some time and have not been updated. I think it's time for a new collection!

(I've been writing a few, but they need tweaking before I go public!)

A good friend of mine collects rounds (either old or popular or both). We have not yet been able to find out how to list all the relevant items in the DT; the search word "round" doesn't really do the trick. We may be able to contribute more material.

This site is devoted to rounds. Play the samples for old favorites and new ideas. They'll sell you CDs of nicely done rounds and a book of words and transcriptions. Good resources links, too.

Mbo,

Our choir, Echo, has a really good time with rounds, especially in Hebrew, Yiddish, Spanish (Cultivo una Rosa Blanca) etc. The English language river chants get dull after a while. Sometimes we teach them at the Potluck Singalong fundraisers.

Ah yes! "Hey Ho Nobody Home" is a Christmas song, believe it or not! If you can get your hands on a copy of "Rise Up Singing", they have a WHOLE section for rounds, including some neat Hebrew ones!

"When Jesus Wept" has a known composer-- William Billings who, as you say, was around during trhe Revolutionary war. He wrote the round version of "by the waters of Babylon"-- not the reggae version and boy has THAT gotten me into trouble before I realized that 100 people know the reggae version for every 1 who knows Billings. . .

Charcloth--that's lovely...you can hear it in the DT when you enter @round. Also, that's one that has a midi file in the DT that you can hear the various voices of the round. (Most of them just have the melody line, or in the case of a round, one voice.)

a nice old hymn is called "When jesus wept" when Jesus wept a falling tear,In mercy flowed beyond all bounds, When groaned a trimbeling fear siezed all the guilty world around (you gotta forgive the spelling) this song dates back circa The Rev. war

...thought of another Christmas round. Dona Nobis. The midi and history can be found at Central Valley Christian School. I think the words fit better if sung a little differently than written here.

...my apologies...maybe that is the correct spelling for kookaburra!

Also, there are words (or a word) to Mozart's Alleluia. The word is Alleluia, and it's heard a lot at Christmastime.

Here's a link to a midi of Hey Ho! Nobody Home. It's at the bottom of this page. I just didn't think it should be linked to directly. link

Also, here are the words to Kookaburra from one of Joe Offer's links. My apologies to the Catters down under for the way it is spelled. I didn't do it!

Also, I love Mozart's Alleluia, Exsultate Jubilate as a round, but there are no words.

"we sing silly songs" is a great tape for kids and has a few nice rounds. My fave, one bottle o' pop, looks odd on paper but sounds really good when sung right. It is sung in three parts.

One bottle o pop
Two bottle o pop
Three bottle o pop
Four bottle o pop
Five bottle o pop
Six bottle o pop
Seven bottle o pop
Pop

Dont put your muck in My dust bin
My dust bin
My dust bin
Dont put your muck in My dust bin
My dust bin's full

Fish and chips and vinegar
Vinegar
Vinegar
Fish and chips and vinegar
Vinegar and pop

I have a slightly different version of 'Hey Ho', taken from "Rounds and Catches of the Elizabethan and Stuart Age". The source is cited as Ravenscroft, Pammelia #85.

Hey Ho No-bo-dy at home meat nor drink nor money have I none fill the pot Ea-die

Another interesting round from Ravenscroft was in Deuteromelia #13.

Three blind mice Three blind mice Dame Ju-li-an, Dame Ju-li-an the mil-ler and his mer-ry old wife she scraped her tripe, lick thou the knife

Hope this helps,

Cynwrig ap Rhys

Here is a barebones ABC for the version I learned several decades ago from the PP&M records. Sing it in three parts, starting every 2nd measure at the double bars. I see the words posted above, which are sung between the repeats, and the tag line is the same as the first.

(you may need to add line breaks to separate the header info for some ABC readers)

Kelida,

The words of Hey Ho are:

Hey, ho, nobody home,
Meat nor drink nor money have I none,
Yet shall we be me-e-e-e-rry...

Do you know the tune? I can't write ABC but if you can read music by following the letters of the scale, I can give you the melody in an odd but quite readable text version.

Subject: Lyr Add: WHY DOESN'T MY GOOSE (round)
From: Ebbie
Date: 02 Apr 00 - 11:40 PM

One I like is

Why doesn't my goose
sing as well as thy goose
When I paid for my goose
twice as much as thou.

Dont' forget to go up an octave on the third goose!

I'm looking for lyrics to some songs sung in rounds, specifically a song that I've heard called "Hey Ho," but also any others besides "Rose, Rose".
