Subject: Help: ABC2WIN won't play From: NightWing Date: 01 Dec 00 - 06:44 PM I've checked all the settings I can think of. Other types of sound files (both WAVs and MIDis) make noise. But when I try to play from ABC2WIN, it doesn't make a sound. The window for PLAYQABC opens and the ABC scrolls across as if it were playing, but no sound. It USED to play and, I don't know of anything that has changed. Just now it doesn't play the tune. Any ideas? Is, perhaps, ABC2WIN crippled so you can't play after a while if it's unregistered? (Haven't had the $$ or time to register it yet.) Any help is appreciated.

Subject: RE: Help: ABC2WIN won't play From: Snuffy Date: 01 Dec 00 - 08:41 PM I don't think there's anything in ABC2Win to disable the player after a certain time - the only limitation is on printing scores if you're not registered. And hell, registration is only $20. PLAYQABC is a DOS program which only uses the beeper, not your sound card, so I would suggest that it's probably a DOS problem. I find PLAYQABC OK for just checking tunes, but usually play them through ABCMIDI, where you can change timing, instrumentation, etc, and play the full sequence, not just the parts. I think I found the download for that (is it ABC Midifier?) on the ABC homepage, which you should find a link to somewhere in Mudcat Wassail! V |
Subject: RE: Help: ABC2WIN won't play From: Snuffy Date: 01 Dec 00 - 08:59 PM I haven't come across your problem with the ABC player, but I have had a similar thing with the DOS beeper player in the DT Fall 99 download. If my son has been playing Championship manager on the PC, then the DT won't play the tunes. But if I restart the PC, the DT player works fine. Worth a try. Wassail! V

Subject: RE: Help: ABC2WIN won't play From: GUEST,Bruce O. Date: 01 Dec 00 - 11:03 PM Do you have the required runtime file VBRUN300.DLL? With a new computer it usually comes with WINDOWS now, but if you have an old WINDOWS you may not have it. Look for it in your WINDOW/SYSTEM directory/folder.
