O'Day recorded it as well as others. Did Hank Williams record it? Some say Hank wrote it. Some say Jimmy Davis. How say you? Haven't found the song on any lyrics site.

Hi, Thyme - can you give us what you remember of the lyrics? That should help us find the song for you. "Evening train" is a phrase that's pretty common in folk and country songs, so a little more information would help us sort things out.

THE EVENIN' TRAIN
MOLLY O'DAY
Writer: Hank Williams

I heard the laughter at the depot
But my tears fell like the rain
When I saw them place that long white casket
In the baggage coach of THE EVE-NIN' TRAIN

The baby's eyes are red from weeping
Its' little heart is filled with pain
Oh Daddy he cried, they're takin' Mama
Away from us on THE EVE-NIN' TRAIN

As I turned to walk away from the depot
It seemed I heard her call my name
Take care of baby and tell him, darlin'
That I'm goin' home on THE EVE-NIN' TRAIN

I pray that God will give me courage
To carry on till we meet again
It's hard to know she's gone forever
They're carryin' her home on THE EVE-NIN' TRAIN

REPEAT FIRST VERSE
