Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday Elvis.... From: Ebbie Date: 08 Jan 01 - 10:08 PM Spaw, is that burp like a yawn or more on the order of a cookie OD? Presley was an important figure in my early life. I never went to the concerts because I couldn't understand the concept of screaming and I couldn't stand his movies- what an actor!- but I loved his voice and his interpretation of a song and I loved dancing to the music. It was not until recent years and listening to some of his later songs that I realized that he had gone to an unfailing formula. I was taken aback and disappointed. I resented Pat Boone- a lot- with his slick, soul-less approach and felt that he was always jealous of Presley's success- he, after all, had been the good boy and felt that he should have reaped the rewards of the top spot. I was aggrieved when Boone was proven right- that Presley couldn't handle the adoration and/or the money. But how many of us could or would have handled it better, given the poor boy upbringing and the manipulative manager that Presley had? Anyway, I hope Elvis Presley is resting in peace and will do better the next time around! Ebbie |
