Subject: RE: Answer to Weeping Willow Carter Fam. From: Stewie Date: 24 Aug 02 - 10:56 PM Listening to the recording reissued in the Country Music Hall of Fame Series MCA MCAD 10088 [and it has the same reference as given by Lyle - 9 June 1936], there is no question that the line sung is 'For I know she bids me come'. Carter lyrics are sometimes difficult to decipher, but this line is crystal clear. Anyone who hears something else would have to be deaf - no offence Lyle. The 'Then lay me down' stanza is repeated twice - before the 'God shall I ever' stanza and as a last stanza. --Stewie. |
Subject: RE: Answer to Weeping Willow Carter Fam. From: GUEST,Lyle Date: 24 Aug 02 - 10:20 PM Dicho: Please understand that I'm not questioning you at all, but could you give me your source for the line "For I know she bids me come?" The reason I'm asking is that there was a discussion about that at an old time music discussion group about 40 or 41 years ago, and from the notes I have from that, the one that is now in the Carter file was deemed the correct one. The only person I referred to in my original notes I listed as MGP, and now I have no idea who that was! Guess I thought I'd remember forever - dumb of me, huh? Anyway, I'd like to update my notes. Thanks, Lyle |
