I'm new at submitting tab, so apologies if the formatting is wrong.

This is how I think Kate plays the intro to Underneath the Stars, taken from her DVD. The phrase forms the basis of the whole song. Both E strings are dropped to D.

Capo 5th fret

B-------------1-0-|-----------------|
G-------0---------|-------0-------0-|
D-----0-----2-----|-----0-------4---|

Thanks for the "Underneathe the Stars" TAB I had a look for this and found the version in C on the 911 site, yours looks much more like the fingering used on the UTube video. Now all I have to do is change sex, shed 30 years and develope a beautiful voice. Still it's a start.

I've just 'discovered' Kate Rusby (yeah I know - what planet have I been on) - really really want the chords for 'John Barbury' and 'High on a hill' both on her 'Awkward Annie' album.

Can anyone help me please?

Also glad that someone like Kate can become successful because she's got a truly wonderful voice.

For High on a hill the simplified chords are:
Bb    Eb   F       X4

Chorus
F    Bb   Gm(?)
F    Bb
Eb    Bb   F       X2
Bb (round, round)

in the Key of C:
Bb=C
Eb=F
F=G
Gm=Am

These are simplified and I'm in no way good at this but they sound fairly right to me. Now I need to get my hands on a banjo.

I have to admit when I first encountered KR I was a bit put off by something in her presentation... not sure what, maybe it's an American/Brit thing. But she certainly has grown on me lately. She can sure sell a song and I like her uncomplicated approach to the music.

I always thought 'Cruel' was a KR composition, but have just come across a version with huge similarities ( some parts word for word)in an old ballad book dated 1907. Is it just the tune that she composed?
There is anoyher song, an answer to 'Oh Cruel' written from the young man's perespective.

Tug the Cox - she did indeed write the tune after finding the lyrics in an old book.

I have a dear friend that would like me to play this song so she can sing it. Can anyone tell me the chords and where they fit in? Someone told me it's G C D, but I'm not so good at figuring out where to play them.

Any help is much appreciated.

GSS, the lyrics you posted are not the requested song. Kate Rusby's second album is called Sleepless and was released in 1999. She does not have a CD called Honesty. The previously unreleased song "Wandering Soul" was Rusby's contribution to the soundtrack for Billy Connolly's World Tour of New Zealand, an eight-part BBC television documentary series originally broadcast in November 2004. Kate released it on her 2005 CD The Girl Who Couldn't Fly.

Kate Rusby solo albums:
Hourglass (1997)
Sleepless (1999)
Little Lights (2001)
10 (2002)
Heartlands (2003)
Underneath the Stars (2003)
The Girl Who Couldn't Fly (2005)
Awkward Annie (2007)
Sweet Bells (2008)
Make the Light (2010)
While Mortals Sleep (2011)

I dont know much about tableture, but i will say this, most folk music is ironic by itself. I first heard K.R when i was listening to celtic connections, about fifteen years ago and she did a song with john mckusker, I think it was The wild goose. I bought the album sleepless, and you could tell it was going to be a hit, because it was obviously the culmination of hard work and musically it was okay.
In my opinion all folk music becomes boring after a point, because it tends to only have one or two meanings and doesnt translate well, into modern ,everyday life, in the same way pop music does.
If you ever see the comments on facebook, it must be really creepy, for her. For a start i dont think her voice has improved one iota, and lots of songs, now in the public domain are poor. Which makes you think possibly that she no longer cares where her career is headed.
Looking at the number of people who have viewed her songs on the whole, they obviously view her for her 'famous' telly songs etc, (about three)
They obviously arent interested in her other songs to any great extent
If you want my humble opinion there is a lot more this girl can do with her talents other than warble dreary laments, for sad gits to get cheesy about.

High on a Hill - Chords

HIGH ON A HILL – Kate Rusby

G                                     C               D
High on a hill, There's a sweet bird calling,
G                                          C                  D
All come together, Are you in or are you out,
G                                             C          D
He sings of a time, When the sky was falling,
G                                     C          G
All come together, And be in no doubt.

Chorus:
D                                     G                      C
Oh darling let's go over, Now the devil's here,
D                                     G
Oh darling let's go over, Now the devil's here,
C                                              G                   D
Oh darling, oh my darling, Be strong and be proud,
C                                                G                  D
Oh darling then you'll see, The devil will go round,
G
Round, round.

High on a hill, And way up yonder,
All come together, Are you in or are you out,
The eleventh day was hell, But the heart grows stronger,
All come together, And be in no doubt.

Chorus.

Over the fields, Where the water's falling,
All come together, Are you in or are you out,
There's a bird on the hill, And he's sweetly calling,
All come together, And be in no doubt.

Chorus.

High on a hill, There's a sweet bird calling,
All come together, Are you in or are you out,
He sings of a time, When the sky was falling,
All come together, And be in no doubt.

Chorus
