Subject: Review: First night of Market Rasen Folk Club From: Rasener Date: 26 Mar 04 - 08:30 PM Having set up for the very first time in my life a folk club, I have to say that it was a very humbling experience. IMHO the night went exceptionally well. Every single artist that played tonight was brilliant. I really don't know how I can ever thank them for what they did. Although there were only about 10 Market Rasen inhabitants at the function, they all left saying how very much they enjoyed it and were saying that they would spread the word and bring other people next time. The staff of the Social club were very impressed with the quality of the performers. What more can I say. Thank you thank you thank you wonderful mudcatters. I hope as many as possible of you can make Friday April 23rd (St Georges Day). Please let me know if it is possible. |

I started going to folk clubs in the late 1960s when everything seemed so vibrant and alive, we were more politically aware , and I tend to agree with what Ewan MacColl once said that the folk club movement lost it's way when it started to abandon it's political content. Subject: RE: Review: First night of Market Rasen Folk Club From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 27 Mar 04 - 04:16 AM Sad Old Men need to move on and stop harking back to times and performers that:- (a) Weren't actually as good as they like to believe they were. (b) Are dead, gone and will never return. Live for today and the future, it's all we've got. BTW, before you ask, I'm 57. And yes, Market Rasen was good last night. Thanks to all the others who gave their time to sing and play for nowt other than appreciation - we certainly got plenty of that! Here's to the next time. Johnny :0) |
Subject: RE: Review: First night of Market Rasen Folk Club From: Rasener Date: 27 Mar 04 - 04:41 AM Mr and Mrs Sooz and Strollin', thank you so much for supporting me. Seems like none of us need much sleep :-) Sooz your voice stood up very well last night. You and Mr Sooz came over very well. Strollin' Sorry I sprung the last number on you, but you did a wonderful job of recovering and singing without instrument backing, and involving the audience as well on your last number. What a powerful voice you have. I was amazed. I reckon Gainsborough Folk Club and Market Rasen Folk Club, could work so well to really bringing on young talent, and just maybe we can get more and more people coming in to our clubs. |
