I dunno, Peace. It says the sound clips may contain explicit lyrics - from Ian and Sylvia?

Now, if I can find my I&S CD's, I may try my hand at transcribing the song. Wish they had printed the lyrics. Hi, Rastaaaaaa - long time, no see. Welcome back!

OK, so I transcribed it. Must be the Canadian accent or something, because I can't understand a lot of it. I understand enough to have formed the opinion that this is not a Poetic Masterpiece. There are some Ian & Sylvia songs that I like very, very much - is it heresy to say that this and many others are best forgotten?
No, I don't like this song. It just sounds dumb to me. On this recording, they sound like the I&S parody people from A Mighty Wind.

Play One More
(Words and Music by Ian Tyson)

Play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let the guitar dream.
I can't tell you to hold (?), for I do believe
She being high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.

Oh, this smoky, laughing room just seems to ease my mind
Not to mention the few too many that I've had,
So I pack my guitar up, for I do believe,
She being high-strung and lately feeling bad,
She may be gone.

Hmmm, Hmmm, hmmmm.

We ain't been getting' along for a month or more,
Yes, I might be better off if she just goes
But to get home with a dog-tired and empty room
Could I stand the pain, I really don't think so.

So play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let the guitar dream (???)
I can't tell you to hold (?), for I do believe
She being high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.

Hmmm, Hmmm, hmmmm. Hmmmmm.

From the Ian & Sylvia album Play One More, originally released in 1966, the year Joe Offer graduated from High School.

With respect, Joe, I'll offer a couple of slight amendments to your transcription. I pretty sure I got the lyrics from an Ian & Sylvia Songbook I had way back when. Used to have the words & chords on my computer, too, but that was 3 computers and 1 hard drive crash ago!

Play One More
(Words and Music by Ian Tyson)

Play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let those guitars ring
I can't tarry here too long, for I do believe
She been high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.

Oh, this smoky, laughing room just seems to ease my mind
Not to mention the few too many that I've had,
So I'll pack my guitar up, for I do believe,
She been high-strung and lately feeling bad,
She may be gone.

Hmmm, Hmmm, hmmmm.

We ain't been getting' along for a month or more,
Yes, I might be better off if she just goes
But to get home with her gone and find an empty room
Could I stand the pain, I really don't think so.

So play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let those guitars ring
I can't tarry here too long, for I do believe
She been high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.

I could only remember the first half of most of the verses! I don't think I've heard or played this since the 70s. However, these lyrics refresh my memory quite well, so here's a few corrections, informed by the sheet music more than by the diction on the record:

Play One More
(Words and Music by Ian Tyson)

Play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let the guitar dream. [ring]
I can't tell you to hold (?), for I do believe
[I can't tarry here too long, for I do believe]
She being high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.

Oh, this smoky, laughing room just seems to ease my mind
Not to mention the few too many that I've had,
So I pack my guitar up, for I do believe,
She being high-strung and lately feeling bad,
She may be gone.

Hmmm, Hmmm, hmmmm.

We ain't been getting' along for a month or more,
Yes, I might be better off if she just goes
But to get home with a dog-tired and empty room
[But to get home with the dawn and find an empty room]
Could I stand the pain, I really don't think so.

So play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
Pick one more, let the guitar dream (???)
I can't tell you to hold (?), for I do believe
She being high-strung like a swallow on the wing,
She may be gone.
[same as first verse]

Hmmm, Hmmm, hmmmm. Hmmmmm.

Thanks a lot - both of those work better than my transcription. I guess you must like the song better than I do.

The way I do it... may or may not be as the recording (on Ian & Sylvia's 1966 album of the same name), but from the way my Dad & Mom used to duet on it, then evolving some as I played it myself over the years.

intro: D Dsus2 Dsus4 D (x2)

D       G                  D             Dsus2 Dsus4 D
play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
G          G/F# Em       Em7    A    Asus4 A
pick one more,   let those guitars ring
A7      D   D7         G          D       Dsus2 Dsus4 D
I can't tarry here too long, for I do believe
         G                   D             C    A

n/c       G    A

A7         G                               D
well, this smoky laughing room does seem to ease my mind
       G         G/F#    Em    Em7       A    Asus4 A
not to mention a few-too-many, that I've had
A7       D       D7    G         D          Dsus2 Dsus4 D
but I'll pack my guitar up, for I do believe
         G               D             C    A

n/c       G    A
she may be go - one

so play one more, and then I'm leavin', boys
    G       G/F#      Em    Em7       A   Asus4 A
just pick one more, and let those guitars ring

And, as for Ian's Canadian accent, we always thought Ian affected an American twang, because of his formative influences from Nashville country mousic.
