Sadly, Jackie Oates had her 5 string Tim Phillips Viola stolen from her car last night. I'll get the serial number asap. A picture of it can be viewed on her website.Anahata |

Subject: RE: Stolen viola From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 10 Nov 06 - 03:46 AM John J Somewhere in the South West of the UK, I understand. There are no words to describe the actions of a person who would do such a thing. May Jackie be lucky enough to recover her Viola. I wish her well. Kind Regards Ralphie |
Subject: RE: Stolen viola From: The Borchester Echo Date: 10 Nov 06 - 03:55 AM Jackie's viola The autumn tour with the Winterset starts tonight so there's not much time to get it back. I'm off to check the Portobello Road fences now. |

Subject: RE: Stolen viola (South West of the UK) From: GUEST,cardboard cutout Date: 10 Nov 06 - 04:18 PM Jackie won't have picked this thread up, so I will. Stolen from the locked boot of her car in central Exeter, outside her flat, overnight Wednesday 8th to Thursday 9th November. (Usually she takes it indoors so extremely unlucky car got struck on this night.) Opportunist theft, I'm guessing, by thieves seeing what they could find. All of family very upset by the "bereavement" however, apart from death of a loved one about the worst thing that could happen to Jackie, as it is like her third arm! Thanks for all your concern and efforts, Jane Oates |

Subject: RE: Stolen viola (South West of the UK) From: The Borchester Echo Date: 13 Nov 06 - 12:54 PM I hope that everyone reading this thread has taken the pic of Jackie's viola + serial number to their local music shop/market stall/second hand shop and asked them to watch out for it. If you haven't yet, do it now. Such action can pay off - remember Alan Day's concertina stolen in Sidmouth turning up in the Music Room in Birningham a few days later. |
Subject: RE: Stolen viola (South West of the UK) From: Ella who is Sooze Date: 13 Nov 06 - 03:54 PM They'll either Ebay it or take it to a local pawn brokers (there's a modern version of that's about now) or try local junk shops too. A friend had his flute stolen in Cardiff, and he trawled all the local junk shops, pawn brokers etc and eventually found his flute in a pawn broker... Fingers crossed it'll return. EWIS |
Subject: RE: Stolen viola (South West of the UK) From: GUEST Date: 14 Nov 06 - 07:51 AM Countess - the photo you posted seems to show a 4-string viola. |
Subject: RE: Stolen viola (South West of the UK) From: The Borchester Echo Date: 14 Nov 06 - 08:14 AM It has 5. Four tuned like a fiddle but with a low C added. I got the .jpg off J's brother. |
