Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: The Shambles Date: 15 May 99 - 05:01 AM *NOTE FROM THE MANAGEMENT* Dear Mr Catspaw
It has come to our attention recently, that you have had more than your share of threads allotted to you. As I am sure you appreciate, there is only a certain amount of BLUE CLICKY THINGS. They have to used sparingly and we are concerned at the present level of stock. Your help in this matter would be much appreciated. Love from all those in the BLUE CLICKY DEPT. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 15 May 99 - 07:33 AM I've just read the latest from Clarence and kat (bless you, woman!)in the other thread and I'm weeping and praying and thinking that so much love can only be healing. I'll be looking for that P.O. box #. Keep us posted, family, and know that the prayers have not ceased! Allison |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Big Mick Date: 15 May 99 - 08:55 AM Hello, my friends. I am indeed spending a great deal of time away from home just now and not in places where I can access a computer. Please have patience with me, this happens every so often. The life of a Union Organizer is oftimes not their own. Also, on the issue of the donations, I have been in contact with Wayne and Connie for about a month now, based on a suggestion from Banjer (Thanks, Banj). Connie asked that we wait until she has had time to broach the subject with Karen, before we take steps. I am not so sure, if we should not just do what is in our hearts and start sending it if we feel we would like to. I will approach them and make sure we would not offend, and get back with you all in a few days. LATEST UPDATE AS OF MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT You will see that this is taking a toll on Wayne and Connie, as well. Let us include them in our prayer/good thought chain. What follows is what Connie sent me this morning. K called the school while I was teaching my first class and asked for my supervisor, told her what was going on, who then of course came and got me to talk to k on the phone. Conversation essentiallly was: P still loosing blood somewhere. all the tests they have run have not revealed from/to where. The GP told k this is about the worst of the worst situations...not sure if it's operable and if it is they (at that time ) weren't able to find a surgeon willing to operate. (Since then they have located a doc who will talk to them about it if they do a couple more tests and he studies them a bit.) So for the meanwhile they are trying to buy time by continuing to transfuse him. Outside chance it could seal itself off (that would be in the miracle catagory)a little better chance that it is operable, a little better Chance that they could find someone to do the surgery that is willing to take a risk, if none of these things happen then he would eventually "bleed out". They have run more tests and are still not sure where he is leaking. Wayne just came home the last test has not been read yet but it is assumed that if there was anything outstanding on it that they would have said something. Now that leaves us with a the possibility that he's still leaking and they still don't know where--or the wonderful thought that the LORD is answering our prayers and is just healing P Himself. That would be too cool. Sorry, I'd like to be the perveyor of some wonderful update but at this time we have no exciting info. I stayed with k until time to make the rounds to pick up the kids from school, then Wayne stayed wih her till she bedded down for the night and P was asleep. Some how I assumed that I would be 70-80 yrs old before I had to deal with this among my close firends --not my parents' friends. Sort through and post what makes sense and seems appropriate. Connie |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: katlaughing Date: 15 May 99 - 09:17 AM Mick, Did you see my postings in the relaspe thread? I spoke to Karen last night, prob. about 8pm her time and she seemed appreciative of the thought of donations. Also, said his blood loss had slowed down some. Kat |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence ('spaw's maw-in-law) Date: 15 May 99 - 09:37 AM Just talked with ICU and Karen is at breakfast. Pat is sleeping and has already had his breakfast. As of now, they have not found the bleeding and more blood has been ordered for today. I do not have a number into the ICU waiting room and the nurse said she didn't believe therre was one. (Number, that is.) Karen is never in there as she stays with Pat. I hate to call and bother the nurses and tie up their phone so have promised that I will keep my calls to one a day. Karen will probably call me back and if there are any additions to the news, I will get them to you. Kat, Banjer, Mick etal we appreciate your thoughts of sending not only prayers but financial help. I think that Pat would be upset but at this point even he would see this as an act of love. We are doing everything in the family that we can to help Karen. She needs to go back to work on Monday or her salary will stop. She is under a great deal of pressure and, of course, cannot discuss problems with her best friend, Pat. I would like so very much to say, thanks but we can handle this. However, there comes a time when one must face reality. This has been financially devestating to Karen and Pat and is beyond the realm of what her sister and I can do to help her. I know that any help you send would be received in the spirit with which it was sent and would be of immense help to them. Now, as to the mechanics. Could it simply be sent to Karen at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster? She does work there and maybe her mail could be held for her at the histology lab. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 10:18 AM My suggestion would be to have Karen or someone go rent a P.O. Box which could posted, unlike a home address which for reasons of privacy you would not neccessarily want to post on the net. Also, it would be easier to handle a volume of mail that way than by regular delivery. (And we do hope for VOLUME!) We have to remember that while we all consider ourselves a community, we have no control over visitors from outside whose intentions may be less than honorable! Now that Clarence has given the nod to the project, I suggest we all get ready and at the first sign of an address, PO Box #, or whatever lets start the ball rolling. Thanks, Kat and Mick for updates...and special thanks to 'Spaw-Maw-in-Law, (Clarence) for the approval of the assistance. So Pat may be a little PO'ed? Well, as I see it, he can just put this on his list of things to overcome. I've never met, nor even had the privilge as some of you have had to talk with him, but I feel secure in thinking that he'll accept the assistance in the spirit that we offer it! He has done much for others in the form of foster parenting and child advocay and now it is his turn to need a little help. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 10:57 AM I almost forgot to mention, and it's probably OK now that the cat's outta the bag so to speak. I asked Big Mick about the possibilty of putting together some sort of benefit performance for the 'Spaw family, proceeds to offset bills, etc. Also all you performers that play in informal settings, ie:pubs, local events, etc. could possibly put out a container for donations from your audience for assistance for one of our fellow folkies. A note could be attached to the container with a brief explanation. I know I myself have dropped several dollars into various such containers knowing that if the fellow who was aking believed in it, then I did too! Could start this weekend and just hold the funds until an address or Box # becomes available. Thanks to all in advance for your noble efforts on Catspaws behalf!! |
Subject: Lyr Add: LEAN ON ME (Bill Withers) From: Jeri Date: 15 May 99 - 11:04 AM I hope we'll be allowed to help out because I, for one, am feeling pretty darned useless right now. There's a song, which doesn't appear to be in the database:
Sometimes in our lives,
Lean on me, when you're not strong,
Please swallow your pride,
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand.
Lean on me when you're not strong,
You just call on me, brother, when you need a hand.
If there is a load
Call me (if you need a friend) |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: katlaughing Date: 15 May 99 - 11:17 AM Well, I, too, feel the need for some action. Until we know more or get any POB's from them, if you all trust me, I would be happy to receive mail for them and forward it on to their snail mail address. Because this is an open forum to anyone who comes in, I would prefer giving you my POB number through message or email. I suppose we could send it to the hospital in Lancaster, as Clarence opined, but also wouldn't want to upset Karen's employer with a deluge. Let me know what you all think, okay? Send me a message or email me at katlaf@coffey.com. And, I agree, 'Spaw can just add this to the list and get over it. I don't care how much litter he flings, I'd gladly clean it up, give him a big hug, and say "we're doing it anyway!" kat |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 11:58 AM Yeah, Jeri, I was looking for that VERY song this morning and couldn't find it! Glad you came up with it. I suggest that if we need theme song for this effort, we use that one. Beautiful sentiments....Kat, I have no qualms about sending to you, I suggested the PO Box for the same reaason that you cite, if we send to the hospital it may become a burden on their mail clerks or facilities. The USPO is payed to handle mail, let them earn their keep! Can someone other than Karen set up a PO Box? It's time to get down to brass tacks here and figure out the logistics of this thing. Big Mick, are you still loitering about? Your two cents would certainly be useful right now. Maw-in-Law, can you set up a PO Box where you are and forward the results to Karen? Let's put our nose to the grindstone, our hearts in the task, and our hands in our wallets....the TIME IS NOW!!!!(and don't forget the prayers, they are needed now as much as ever) |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: bbc Date: 15 May 99 - 12:11 PM I sent a personal email to Connie & Wayne, asking the same kinds of things this am, but they may have their hands too full. bbc |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: bbc Date: 15 May 99 - 12:13 PM To Clarence-- If you don't mind, could you take the time to join Mudcat officially, so we can send you personal messages or would you consider posting your email address? Some of us would like to send you a message, other than through the threads. Thinking of you, bbc |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Maw-in-law Date: 15 May 99 - 12:26 PM my email address is patwyatt@mindspring.com. I do not mind opening a PO box here. In fact, I will be back with you momentarily. I think Mail Boxes etc. offers that service and I will run up Peachtree and get one. I can check it daily and forward the mail to karen or take it up to her when I go. I will, of course, be making fairly regular commutes. Be back at you as soon as I dry my hair (not to mention my eyes) the lyrics did me in, and make the arrangements. Thanks. Love to all.....Clarence. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 12:57 PM OK, Gang, we're on a roll here. I need to go out this PM and I will return with Money Order in hand, ready to mail. Clarence, whose name should it be made out to? I would assume KAREN PATTERSON would suffice. It's time to put our money were our posts and our hearts have been. Let's make this a MAXIUM effort for our friend and his family. While we cannot do anything but pray and hope and wish our best wishes for Catspaw, we can do something to help Karen and the boys through this stressful time. Thanks Maw-in-Law for the support! |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: katlaughing Date: 15 May 99 - 01:10 PM THANKS, "CLARENCE" for doing this. I hope we all can help in whatever amount we are able. love you all, katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 02:06 PM OK. Hair dried. Mailbox purchased. Here is the address: |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 02:14 PM OOps, hit a wrong key so HERE is the address: Pat Wyatt,PMB D279, 2221 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309-1106. Make checks etc payable to Karen Patterson. I joined your happy little band earlier so now am Officially a mudcatter and I like John Prine, (a fact that surprised my darling daughter). I guess that she and Pat thought I just couldn't like classical and folk, not to mention bluegrass, all at the same time. One of my friends was Judy Collins college room mate. So I have a tie to folk. Thank you in advance for all of your help. Keep the light and prayers coming. Will post again when there is an update. Clarence the mudcatter Does this make me a mudder in law? |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: LEJ Date: 15 May 99 - 03:25 PM Could someone re-post Catspaws hospital address? |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: gargoyle Date: 15 May 99 - 03:34 PM Cut from previous threads: Mount Carmel East Hospital 6001 East Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43213 Patrick Patterson ~ ICU |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: LEJ Date: 15 May 99 - 03:38 PM Thanks Gargoyle...but I thought it was Lancaster? |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: gargoyle Date: 15 May 99 - 03:42 PM I was ready to send a money order immediately, this afternoon, but something seemed pecular:
If Catspaw is in a hospital in Ohio
|
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: gargoyle Date: 15 May 99 - 04:00 PM My most sincere apology for being skeptical of the address. Tracing back to the original thread, it is obvious that the address is legitimate. A check will go out today. The following is a cut from that thread:
Of course snail mail to the hospital will be good, too. Here is the address of the hospital: Mount Carmel East Hospital 6001 East Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43213 Patrick Patterson ~ ICU If he has to be transferred it would be to Mt Carmel Medical Center (downtown). I will give you the address for that if necessary. I just checked with the hospital and the do allow card and small arrangements of flowers in ICU. Very unusual for around here. Karen's mom was able to fly up from Atlanta to help out with the boys--since we will be gone or tied up with Wayne's graduation this weekend. Emotionally, this is something like giving birth to twins where one is healthy and the other has congenital challenges. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: bbc Date: 15 May 99 - 04:09 PM Yes, gargoyle, everything is on the up & up. Karen's mom needed to return home to Atlanta & is monitoring the situation by phone, Internet, & prayer, as are most of us. I think we can trust her to get the money to Karen (who the checks should be made out to, anyway!). Mine's going in the mailbox today. Let's keep up our support, in all the ways we see fit. love to you all, bbc |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 04:29 PM Folks, we are all just playing this by ear. I know that Karen will not leave Pat to set up a Post Office Box so when someone suggested that I do it, I did. I haven't fine tuned exactly how I willl handle the donations. I can either set us an account here for Karen and deposit them for her, or I can send them to her and let her deposit them. We will just cross each bridge as it comes. It is not a Post Office Box and the Post Office decrees that since it is at Mail Boxes Etc. the address must be written as follows. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 04:34 PM Wrong key once again: Here is the address: Pat Wyatt or Karen Patterson PMB D279 2221 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, GA 30309-1106 Note that it is PMB not POB. Have no more news but will post it when I do. clarence |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 05:11 PM
The address that Gargoyle posted above is NOT where Pat is now!! The correct address, as taken from the relapse thread is:
The Atlanta PMB is provided by Pat's mother-in-law so that she can gather all the moneis and forward them as one lump sum to Karen. That will relieve Karen of yet another detail. Clarence will see to it that all funds are directed to Karen. Thank You all for you participation in this effort!!

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Anne Date: 15 May 99 - 05:42 PM Dear Clarence, A John Prine fan, eh? Well, the song that comes to mind at this particular time is... You've got gold, gold inside of you...

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 08:10 PM Just called Connie and she had just spoken with Karen. Blood count still too low. He has had 12 units and they think that if it was going to seal over it would have and he is still losing blood. They are going to operate in the morning at 8:30 in the hope that they can find the problem quickly and fix it. Connie is writing to mick and he will post a more complete description of what has gone on. You all know by now that surgery for Pat is not a happy thought. However, he has dodged a good many bullets and he just may have some more of his nine lives as a mudcat left. I am sure that he can use some heavy duty positive thinking, prayer and light. Connie or Karen will call me as soon as he is out of surgery and I will have my fingers over the keys to let you all know how our 'spaw is doing. May God be merciful and give both Pat and Karen strength and peace. God be with us all. Love to all.....clarence |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 15 May 99 - 08:39 PM Let us all commune with whatever spirit or diety that we hold dear, in whatever light or context we conceive that spiritual being to dwell, that all may go well for our friend tommorow morning. Bless the hands and minds of the surgeons and the team that will be undertaking the task of mending that which is not well. Clarence, we will all be standing by the net to hear how things went. Our thoughts, light and prayers are all directed towards the 'Spaw and his courageous family. Love ya all.... |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 15 May 99 - 08:52 PM Karen just called to let me know about tomorrow. She is hopeful and says that Pat seems in reasonable spirits. She is also realistic and knows how risky this is. Kat, she said she talked to you last night and told me how great it was to hear your voice and how good you made her feel. Thank you. She went home today to shower and to get on the internet to talk to you folks and in her words to me, "my /?"!*** 16 year old has done something to the computer and I can't get on the internet." Mike, of course, denies all knowledge of a problem. She said to tell you all thank you and she looks forward to both she and Pat getting on and mudcatting. I did tell her that I had set up the PMB for her and that some of you had already sent help. She is not going to tell 'spaw until he is much stronger. It is always harder to accept a gift graciously than it is to give one. But know that your help, prayers, concern and comfort will be appreciated forever. She and Pat have given so much and now their bread is returning accross the water. Love to all....clarence |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: LEJ Date: 15 May 99 - 09:05 PM I hope that those of you who are Christians will join me in a prayer. Lord, You have the power to heal all illnesses and to make what is wrong right. We ask that you lay your healing hands upon our friend Pat, and make him whole and healthy again. Invest the doctors with your wisdom and power. Comfort his family and those who love him. Bring him safely through this, Lord. In Christ's Name we ask this. Amen. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: murray@mpce.mq.edu.au Date: 15 May 99 - 10:04 PM I have been suffering from a broken computer followed by a broken internet connection, so I just caught up with this. When I left catspaw he was recovering. I am a fellow aneurism victim; but I have managed to keep it from growing. Whatever healing energy is going into that, I am sending in catspaw's direction (and a check in the Georga direction.) Murray |

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Helen Date: 16 May 99 - 01:52 AM Hi all, The one song which I have carried with me through dark times and lighter times is I Can See Clearly Now.

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 16 May 99 - 02:55 AM I've had surgery before--nothing as serious as Pat's going to have tomorrow--and I know how much it can take out of you. I pray Pat has the strength left to survive the surgery. I pray that the surgical team's hands are quick and sure, that the surgeon's eyes are quick to find the source of the bleeding and that his skills are such that he can repair the damage. I pray that whatever channels we use for sending our love and healing thoughts to Pat will carry them in sufficient volume to help Pat win this struggle. I pray that this community, this forum, will soon be blessed with heaping qualities of the finest quality of the real stuff, the flying litter of the original litter kicker, Catspaw the Magnificent. And I pray that Karen and her whole family and Pat's friends will soon have this terrible shadow lifted from their lives. --seed |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: dwditty Date: 16 May 99 - 06:26 AM Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever. Amen |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 16 May 99 - 06:40 AM I join you all in prayer for our friend, and hope that the outcome is good. We know realisticaly that the risk is great, but one that must be taken if he is to survive this. Also bear in mind that whatever the outcome, Karen and the boys still need our help in other ways. For those that somehow missed it, Pat's Mother-in-Law has set up a postal box to which help can be sent, check or money order, made out to either Karen Patterson or Pat Wyatt and sent to: Let us all give what help we can so that some of the burden may be lifted from them during these stressful times. If, as mentioned in another thread today this makes me an IDIOT, then I am right proud to be in such wonderful company!! (Alex, take note) For explanation of that outburst see the new thread entitled "Can We Get Back To Music" |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 16 May 99 - 08:24 AM Surgery was moved up an hour this morning. Pat went up at 7:30 and was thrilled to pieces. He hates that waiting around stuff. We should know something by about ll:00. Pat and Karen were both calm and at peace before the beginning of the operation. Prayers would be good here. Banjer, the second line of the address is: PMB D 279 Thanks for the reposting. I'm certainlly sorry if I have offended GASP with non musical BS. Sometimes life is just not terribly musical. I love folk and classical music but have not been able to hear my music right now. It will come back, I am sure. It always has before. clarence. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 16 May 99 - 08:36 AM Don't give GASP another thought, Clarence, from the rate of growth of these threads concerning 'Spaw, more folks are for than against! The Majority of US are full of BS and proud to share it! I, too, love classical and most other kinds of music. I find it a comfort and an aid when I am trying to focus my mind, esp for prayer or meditation. I know yours will come back to you. I give thanks to the mother, father god of my heart, that Pat is strong and healthy and on the mend. BSeed: beautiful prayer. Thank you. I give thanks for this or something better for the highest good of all concerned, So Mote It Be! With love and all my heart can give, Kat |

They removed a foot of small intestine and it will be given the usual tests and we will have the results on Tuesday. He came through like the trooper he is and considering the odds against him this was no small feat. We appreciate the prayers and good vibes and know that they played a significant part. Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 16 May 99 - 04:31 PM Beautiful words and thoughts from all!! Rita, although Catspaws dillema had center stage for a while, your Mom, your sister and yourself ass well as your families are no less in our thoughts and prayers! Karen K, I hope that your thoughts espaecially come true. The last line, hoping for our return to normal, strikes me as hilarious! Hell, I've been around here since the end of last year, but I haven't known normal for the last 40 years, at keast!! So yes, I hope I can be normal too! God Bless all of you! |

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Vixen Date: 17 May 99 - 08:50 AM What a weekend--I am offline from Friday to Monday, and I'd have been a wreck if I'd known what was going on. As it was, I just held 'Spaw in my mind, and sent thoughts of healing. To 'Spaw's family, I sent thoughts of fortitude and strength and hope; though they seem very brave, strong, and optimistic, I thought they might be able to use more of those things. Every other 'dcat has more than eloquently expressed my feelings--I can only add, HANG IN THERE! YOU CAN DO IT! V |

Due tae th' Columbine shootin', ev'ryane at oor seminary haes been busy helpin' their various congregations an' communities cope, sae we're a' scramblin' tae catch up th' noo wi' academics. Readin' th' latest news o' surgery, I'm remindit o' a wee anecdote which amusit me tae nae end as a bairn... When I wis aboot fowr or five year auld, ma faither wis diagnosit wi' Chron's disease. He endit up haein' surgery in which a foot-an'-a-hauf o' his intestine wis remaeved. It wis scary for a bit, but he recoverit an' startit feelin' better than he haed lang syne. A few months after th' surgery, I cam hame frae a birthday party wi' a wee bag o' treats, includin' some o' those lang, impossible-tae-blaw-up balloons wha' clowns use tae mak balloon animals an' sic. I tried an' tried tae blaw 'em up, tae nae avail, an' finally tuik 'em tae ma faither wi' a tearfu' bit o' pleadin' for help. Ma faither, wi' a gleam in his eye, selectit a bricht red balloon, stretchit it oot, blew it up wi' muckle huffin' an' puffin', an' then tied it aff. Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Peter T. Date: 17 May 99 - 11:07 AM Cuilionn, great, perfect story, suddenly reminds me of the wierdest thing I have ever seen. I was doing some work in Borneo a few years ago, and I happened to spend a day in a village deep in the jungle. There was an itinerant magician/salesman who was selling his wares and he put on a show for the kiddies and their parents. He was a really good magician, puppeteer, and full of great stories (a sort of Art Thieme with no clothes on, if such a thing is graspable by the human mind). Anyway, at one point he blew up a series of different coloured long balloons (like the one you described), and got some kids to help, or try to help. When he had done that, he jokingly put a full balloon to his mouth and inhaled as if accidentally, so that the balloon collapsed down to his face. And as it did, his face changed to the colour of each balloon, as if it had entered his body. He would then stagger around as if the balloon was strangling him from the inside. I have no idea how he did this, but each time he did it, the village (and I) howled with laughter and amazement. I have absolutely no idea how he did this, and he did it with 6 or 7 different colours. I have never been able to find a magician who could tell me how it was done. Yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Cara Date: 17 May 99 - 12:10 PM I have beenn offline for four days and had to yoyo thru all these emotions this morning, since 'Spaw was back in the litterbox last I heard. Yikes. God bless and heal you. The whole Paw family is in my thoughts. I'm sending all the good vibes I can. Love, Cara |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Mikal Date: 18 May 99 - 12:48 AM Finally! Now I can start thinking about seeing 'Spaw sometime! (It puts a strain on the old brain tryin' to imagine what ye all look like while I typ on this glorified calculator I laughingly call a computer!) Besides, I am a lot more comfortable congratulating God on the good things he does than asking for something. Seems kind of selfish to always be asking... (Grin. Really, just a joke, okay? I'm not opening up a religious debate here...Aw, shoot!) Okay 'Spaw! Now you will have to listen to me drum a few songs and tell more than the usual share of tales! Oh, I will be doing a private shindig this weekend for a bunch of old biker buds. The jar will be out with a cat's pawprint on it, and about half an inch of kitty-litter. Anything that gets put in goes to the fund! (Just wait. Some joker is bound to actually own a cat!) Mikal |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: katlaughing Date: 18 May 99 - 01:00 AM Mikal, No debate, just comment. I've always followed the Native American and/or New Thought(metaphysical churches from the turn of the century, such as Unity) way of not necessarily asking, but of giving thanks for all that I have, all that I give, and all that I receive, as well as those things I would like to see come to pass, in this case 'Spaw's recovery. BUT, lest I dictate and think I know more that the "Cosmic", I always qualify that with "I ask for this or something better for the highest good of all concerned". Kinda covers all the bases. Respectfully, katlaughing |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Charlie Baum Date: 18 May 99 - 01:01 AM The ups and downs of Catspaw's situation keep me on the edge of my pew praying, alternating between prayers of petition and prayers of thanksgiving. I guess the mood swings it engenders are a reminder that to some, the litter box is half empty, while to others, it's half full. --Charlie Baum, offering both kinds of prayers to a God who understands that people can come off as schizophrenic sometimes, but loves us for it anyway, 'cause that's the way he made us. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Banjer Date: 18 May 99 - 05:33 AM No news is supposed to be good news, hope that is true in this case. Mikal, good to hear about the jar with the litter in it, may much get absorbed! |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Roger in Baltimore (well not really) Date: 18 May 99 - 11:32 AM Marge's brother brought his laptop, so I checked in to see how "Spaw is doing. I'm worried (hey, I'm a worrier by nature). Last report was nearly 48 hours ago. Catspaw was out of surgery with a foot and a half less of his intestine. I know I shouldn't be demanding much of a family that has been stressed to the max, but out of love and concern, I also want to know. Such a long time with no news makes me think everyone is very, very busy. I would rather they are just taking a well deserved rest. Roger on vacation away from Baltimore |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Vixen Date: 18 May 99 - 12:15 PM D'Cats-- WARNING! What comes next is rambling, and not guaranteed to adequately express my thoughts! I do not mean to be negative here, but I think we need to be aware that we are a large group, which, though supportive both individually and in the collective, can be a demanding entity to deal with. Catspaw's illness has meant many things to all of us, and it has been the focus of a great outpouring of love and strength to a favorite person and his extended family. And we are all concerned. But I suggest we keep sending the good wishes and prayers and healing light, while keeping the requests for info to a minimum. Also, it looks as if 'Spaw's in for a long haul of recovery--I'm not sure we all need to know every and up-and-down of the trip. I, for one, do not have the energy. I value Catspaw, I think he has a terrific family, and I wish him and his a long and healthy life. However, I'm getting overloaded and I can't stop myself from checking in hourly for the next update. Which brings me finally to the idea of overload...we all have families and crises and disasters. Without getting overly specific, I'm dealing with life or death issues with three people in my immediate circle of family and friends, and Catspaw's illness as well. I am sure I'm not alone. Maybe I'm just too stressed right now to think clearly... and too worried about the implications of "no news." V |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 May 99 - 12:29 PM Good point, Vixen- and with the load of mail I expect Clarence is getting starting about now in her new PO box, I expect the tasks at hand have only increased (for the good, but increased). They know our thoughts and prayers are unceasing, and they'll let us know when they can- meanwhile, we can huddle together here and keep our spirits up with more stories and ramblings and other BS... and we can keep thanking/praying in our own way. |

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: katlaughing Date: 18 May 99 - 01:11 PM Vixen, Good point, indeed. Sorry to hear about your added stress and I hope all turns out well for you. I know they will let us know as soon as possible what is going on. Remember, Karen's email is down and she had to go back to work this week, at least that is what Clarence said. Anything we can send them in energy, love and light and prayers will help, plus any amount of donation, even $5 or $10; it adds up! Remember the old saw about a watched pot never boiling? Well, we don't want 'Spaw to boil *grin*, but the less anxious we are, the better it is for them. Try to imagine healing light/angels/whathaveyou and then try to let go, get your mind off of it; that way the Cosmic/God/ whomever can work on it without interruption. *smile* Not trying to dictate, just suggesting a way to deal with the care and concern we all feel. Love you all, kat |

Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Clarence (mawinlaw) Date: 18 May 99 - 10:04 PM Dear friends, Pat seems to be hanging in there and doing well. Karolyn talked with him briefly tonight and she said that he said that he was really sore. (About the abdomen, not temper wise.) I have not talked with Karen today and understand that she is trying to get the kids together in Bremen and get things organized so that she can get work, Pat, school, animal care, laundry and her life back into some sort of order. I appreciate your tenterhooks, I have been sitting on them also, but really had nothing to report. I will check the PMB box tomorrow and will discover through bd how to let each of you know that your contributions have been received. I am sure that karen will take care of the "official thankyou's". My dear Son-in-law has a way to go and your light and prayers and positive thoughts will certainly help him make his way. Not to mention what they do for the rest of us. All of those things, prayer, positive thoughts, etc count. But most of all it is the love that we feel coming to us from you that is giving us strength and hope. It does this for us and even more it does it for Pat. Thank you.....Clarence |
Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: Lonesome EJ Date: 19 May 99 - 12:56 AM Thanks for the post, Clarence. I went through major abdominal surgery in 1973, and still remember the pain afterwards. Subject: RE: Catspaw, the Recovery From: catspaw49 Date: 19 May 99 - 02:18 AM Dear Mudcatters, Karenspaw signing in for the first time in what seems like forever. Pat is out of ICU and feeling much better. There was a 1.1cm tumor in the small intestine which had ulcerated and the surgeon believes that is where the bleeding was coming from. Since then he quit bleeding so the Dr. must be right. The tumor was a carcinoid tumor which needs no treatment and he is going to be fine. They have let me stay with him in ICU so this is the first night I have been home since he went back in. I have spent the last 1 1/2 hours catching up with the threads and I am truly touched. As I read, I would answer each of you individually, but now that I am at the end I can't remember what I wanted to say. I must tell Barbara that the threat of losing his possum was about more than he could take. When this last episode happened I was frightened, but strangely enough Pat and I were at peace. We were ready to face whatever was going to happen and do what needed to be done. Knowing we had so many wonderful people caring for us made that possible. I expect Catspaw should be up and running if not by the weekend, then by early next week and I know he misses you all terribly. I will never forget everything you have all done and I don't think I will ever feel alone again. Vixen I agree with you. I keep trying to elaborate on that, but nothing seems to sound quite right. I think my mind is shot and the kids get up for school in less than 4hrs. Oh, and it is much easier to access the internet when you pay the bill. I owe the kid an apology. Tomorrow I will get the cable turned back on. Not a financial thing, I just didn't know when the bills needed to be paid. didn't have time to watch t.v. anyway. Will be back in touch soon, Karen
