Up and down the ladder and reaching out to paint countless times today touching up the new shed stain and doing final hammering to attach the boards before nailing on the battens. Worked on it all day.

After supper:
Scrubbing and washing and rinsing laundry.

Scrubbing dishes and pots, sorting veggies, loading up the compost and taking it out. Cutting and freezing corn- another 9 pounds frozen.

Heavy frost expected tomorrow night, so I'll be picking or covering all of the veggies except for cabbages, kales and Chiogga beets. Also must pick apples (Macouns) and unnamed pears a neighbor has for us.

Well, I am slowly getting back into moving. Today, it was housework, a lot of up and down as I dusted, lifted and carried junk to where it really belonged, etc. About two hours in all. Feels great to *feel* like doing it and then actually doing it!:-)

It dawned on me suddenly that with Weight Watchers I no longer feel any concern or guilt over what I eat and I love what I am eating. It's all stuff I was eating anyway, just in a different way...mainly giving myself permission by sticking with the points and watching the weight drop away. over four pounds since a week ago Friday last. I am happy.

After 10 Sun Salutations and my body was plenty warm, I was able to get into my very first unassisted bind. Here's what it looks like:

I know it doesn't look like much but give it a try...WOO HOOOO! I can't think of any other time in my life when I would have been excited to tell someone that I got into a bind!!!!

No pool-- obstacle course toward outlets resulting in heavy recliners to move, instead.

But I plugged in the full-spectrum lamp at least.

Kat, did you de-clutter your thread memory? :~)

Hardi's prolly gonna make me go to the pool AGAIN tonight. I'm enjoying a perfectly lovely cloudy day (strike that) week (strike that) MONTH with my byooteeful widescreen TEEVEE, but no! Choir tonight... that means I could ride along... that means I will... that means working on those blanketty blank HIP muscles.... aw, my suit's even hung up ready to put on....

Say, how can I tell, without an x-ray or doctor visit, whether the stiff hip is unstretched muskles or a congenitally curved spine/pelvis bone thing? And the correct answer is-- no matter, still have to stretch and work on range of motion, nowhere near the max possible yet, I'll know when I get there....

And that means POOL.

Ya know, this workout thing ain't always fun in the anticipation. I'll enjoy it when I get there, but (crap!!!) I really oughtta plug in that sun bulb that got unplugged when I took the puder cords down before vacay.....

Niiiice and darrrrk in here......

:-) Susan

MAG, we have a new thread each month; so far, each one has had "accountability" in the title. Well, at least, that's what I thought until I went looking for the first one. All I can find it month "3" and on. I think I started the first one in January, but heck if I can find numbers 1 and 2! Anyway, welcome and congrats on your success. Oh! Now i Know! I said I would delete postings, in the original thread, at the end of each month. Later on decided to keep each old thread and just start a new one each month.

Here I thought I was enjoying a regressive day(s) off from workouts, only to find that after a memorial service last night I'd planned to attend, Hardi would have a meeting.... so I had to go to the pool for 30 minutes of BackHab and 45 of Ai Chi!

When I came home Faulkner gave me ten minutes of strength training. Oh yeah-- Hardi was Nordic-Track skiiing and F didn't want to stay on the treadmill, so I held him next to Hardi (Lord God to F) to get F used to the track noises. Gentling him down. He wanted to be there, but his stay/go instincts were in conflict. He used to ski with Hardi but flunked out, so this is the next best thing. No poles (scary sticks!), so we hope eventually he'll volunteer to treadmill alongside as Hardi skis.

Dogs can't post their own stats here. :~) I know a CAT could.... but I'm rambling.

What's this? A whole thread on diet and exercise? Where have I been?

Last spring the Doc got on me because my diabetic numbers were not good (read: very bad). Drastic action was called for.

A 12 step program for food control. None of the things that cause my blood sugar to spike: sugar, white flour, white rice, potatoes.

The potatoes hurt: I love 'em. Lately I have been experimenting with 1/4 potato at a time. Nope; doesn't work.

Exercise is part of the Rx, so I have been using my Y membership which has tended to languish. Elliptical trainer for a warm up, then a round on the nautilus circuit. Then I get to reward myself with the hot tub.

Have lost 22 lb; down a total of 35 lb. from my highest weight. Down 2 sizes. Since early spring. Same again, and I'll feel like a normal human being.

Insomnia hasn't been helping lately, and the shorter days are keeping me out of the garden more.

Thank you for this thread. Nothing works like support.

Birthdays and anniversaries are not good for eating plans!

A weekend of getting my Pudgy Points up to 60+ when it should be between 10 and 20 a day has not helped. I suspect I'm on cabbage water and prunes for the rest of the week....

I took a personal day on Friday and went to Kripalu to do Pranakriya yoga with Michael Carrol (Yoganand) ....it was an AMAZING weekend with some tough yoga (and partner yoga that was incredibly fun, bendy, stretchy and even spine lengthening!) and new breathing techniques that left my body feeling more alive than it has in a long time.....it's amazing how much you really can open your body and how much that lets your spirit soar and your energy levels can hit the roof....lots of churning but it's all good. I don't think I've ever sweat so much in my entire life and enjoyed it. There was a good deal of discussion as well about energy within the body...some of it I still need to think about...it was a very indepth conversation with a lot to ponder.....all good....and interesting...very interesting. I won't even go into the food...which is all organic with a great deal of it being supplied by the local farmers....amazing...just amazing. There was also a drum circle on Saturday night complete with wild, anything goes dancing that I absolutely loved. I can't wait for the next trip!

Jai Bhagwan!

Since it's quite the effort to get her to the treadmill, I'm counting getting Sadie onto the treadmill as well as her time on it since I'm working with her during that time as well: 10 minutes and a happy dog.

Another half mile walk, 2mins of stomach crunches yesterday, and my scales say that despite eating a whole pizza (that's about 60 pudgy points when my target is 15....), I appear to have lost another 4lbs....

I can feel the difference in my chins. There are only two of them now, instead of the three and half that were developing.... :D

I need to do some more walking around next week. I've been a bad, bad girl this week.

30 minutes slow jogging after an hour of BackHab Plus. What's the Plus? I ain't tellin', but it hurt! It sent me back to BackHab to build some more muskles to be able to do it cuz it was fun to try anyhow.

Then an hour of dry toothbrushing to remove fray-green fur from the camper canvas before tomorrow's big washday. I made sure to do a lot of it lefty, because that's the arm and shoulder that need to be stronger, and followed that by toting in the heavy portapotti and cleaning it out. Lift, pour, add clean water. Lift, pour, add clean water. Repeat.... and repeat.... followed by Neti-potting the nose!

Had another appointment with the nutristionist this morning. I was expecting bad news. I have been working 10-12 hour days for weeks and weeks now as we just cannot get ahead at work. I've had no time during the day to walk with my coworker and by the time I get home at night I don't want to hear what the treadmill has to say. But I lost 1/2 pound!! Much better than expected. :-)

Yoga: 60 Minutes

I was late getting out of bed this morning so when it came time to get dressed, the fastest thing for me is always a skirt and top. I grabbed the first one in line and found that the skirt was too big. Way too big. I pinned it and decided it would be fine for the day. The short sleeved sweater also seemed big to me so I asked DH what he thought. He thought it looked good. I told him that it just felt big, I mean...look how it hangs down here. He looked at me and said, "Honey, that's because your breasts stick our farther than your belly now..it's SUPPOSED to hang like that."

*Stunned silence and then hysterical laughter for us both*

You know, it was just one of those times when I wasn't sure if I wanted to kick him or kiss him!

Quorn is a vegetarian product that resembles meat or soy protein in texture and 'cookability' but is made from edible fungi. It's used as a meat substitute in a lot of vegetarian dishes. It is quite tasty but can produce intestinal gasses, which have to come out somewhere.... :D

Low in fat, calories and other nasties, it's versatile and quick, easy and do make I fart.

Yours truly did the whole camper pop-up today be herself. Except the jacks, because we aren't jacking it this time for use, but merely airing it out in prep for a good exterior wash and armor-all to close it for winter and putting the last of the washed laundry into it for next year.

Then I rode the John Deere to give Sadie a good run. I mean, to train her to run with it safely. Haven't been on a lawn tractor since the mid-80's. Dontcha love the timing-- grass-cutting season here is nearly ended and all. :~) No, I couldn't possibly plow the driveway this winter, honey..... yet.... I don't think.....

Next foray will be ponying both Sadie and Faulkner together. He invented it first with Hardi. Let HIM train Sadie to share a leash!

Yoga: 60 Minutes

Jillie,

I wrote you a long and detailed answer but you know what? The answer is simple. I get my energy from good nutrition and the activities I do. There are some yoga practices that leave me flying for hours (while others are designed to help a body slow down). A brisk walk when I least want to re-energizes me. A challenging & thrilling kayak run leaves me full of life and wanting more. It seems like the more I do, the more I want to do.

I work hard, play hard and sleep hard. That's all. :)

Hmmm...I looked at their samples recipes, Liz. What is "Quorn?" It looks like a lot of cooking and variety, neither of which I care much for...but maybe I should! I like simple, quick, easy to make meals. On WW, you can eat anything as long as you count the points which is easy to do with their online tracker. On the other hand, I like what you've posted, too. I'll stick with WW for now and see how it goes. Thanks, though!

I prefer to use my scales at home though... they say I've lost half a stone (8lbs) instead of the 4.5lbs the 'official' scale says!

Much more encouraging.

I forgot to say that the intake of certain foods is limited - 2 slices of wholemeal bread so you can still have your sandwich or toast, spoonfuls of nuts and seeds to munch on... small amounts of cheese and milk - doubled if you use low fat/skimmed varieties... it all adds up to being able to make tasty meals and not feel the guilt of having to weight or count every bit of it.

Kat, that's partly why I joined 'Slimming World'... there's a group meets just up the road - not far enough to drive or bus, so I get excercise going to it. It's lots of sitting around clapping people who lost half a pound this week sort of thing, but there's a good support network and the advice is good, sound stuff.

It works on the Red and Green day principle - eggs and most fruit and veggies - raw, steamed or boiled - are 'free'. You can munch on them all day long with no worries. Then there are other freebies for Green days, including wholemeal bread, pasta, nuts and pulses, plus a choice of up to four from various meats (with fat removed and cooked with no extra fat), noodles, brown rice, sea food, fish, beans and dairy products. Red days have more protein and Green days more fibre.

In addition, there are various points given for other foods, known as synergous or 'Syns'. You can have up to 10-15 of these points a day - so the odd square of chocolate isn't going to do any harm.

It seems to rely on the cutting down (but not total elimination) of fats and processed white sugar/flour/rice. Carbohydrates are allowed but are limited, unlike the Atkins diet which has screwed so many digestive systems.

Once you get into the habit, it's hard not to find anything you don't like, and so far, the rest of the family haven't complained much. In fact, Limpit loves the amount of egg noodles we've been getting through!

For me it's slow going, because I'm a skinflint and don't want to waste the food we already have - industrial sized boxes of white flour pasta and rice for the price of a kilo of wholemeal or brown pasta and rice - but it's already had an effect.

I had to lose weight due to Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease - I was getting stomach pains, feeling bloated and 'squashed up', I had a cough that wouldn't go away, and a blood test revealed an abnormal liver function. It's fatty deposits on the liver which could lead to non alcoholic related cirrhosis and worse.

Well.... since I started this new eating plan, the pains have subsided, the cough has gone and I no longer have trouble with certain clothing pressing against my abdomen - it still presses but no longer hurts. I've yet to have another blood test to check the liver function, but I feel more energetic and comfortable than I have for many months. I've actually had the desire to go walking, rather than just the requirement.

My goal - and the doctors' suggestion - was to lose 2 stones by Christmas. Quarter of a stone down and still 3 months to go sees me on track for this... and so far I'm not feeling the 'I shouldn't be eating this' guilt that so many other D***s and eating plans give people. An important part of this is the support from the group. Someone phones me once a week to ask how I'm doing, we swap recipes, have quizzes, whine about families and just encourage each other to carry on.

Good luck with it Kat - take to heart that old Maine proverb - the journey of a thousand miles begins with getting off your ass!

Thanks, maeve! I think it's basically what I have been doing but different combos and amounts, plus it figures all of the points for me. I don't mind counting calories, but there is something psychological which words for me when I see a food only counts for 1 point out of a daily total. It's quite interesting the effect I am feeling mentally.

I also went to the shoe guy and had him adjust my shoes, both pairs, some more. Found out the coumadin levels were too high, thus the bruising on my feet, etc. I did more walking in and out of stores, med office, etc. than I have in a while, so there's a little bit more exercise today to boot.:-)

I am going to get one of those pedal machines. The kind you can put on the table and pedal with your hands and arms or put on the floor to pedal with your legs and feet. The shoe guy said it would be a good strengthening exercise much better than beating myself up about getting on the treadmill, which no one is recommending right now.

I have done it. I joined Weight Watchers online. They have a free first week offer so I figured do it now. Just figured my first day and it was great! I am surprised at what is allowed!

Two more loads of heavy laundry this morning, then out to pick blackberries and the elderberries the birds haven't gotten yet.

Then it'll be a few hours of hauling tired plants away from the stand to the benches in the back yard. Got to clean out the greenhouse....I need a nap but it's not on the list.

LOL Liz. I sleep when I can. Not often enough.

I just noticed the type in my previous post. " past the fiend" ! The "field " is what I intended to write. I would hope I'm not missing the chance to chase out a fiend just because I'm looking for raccoons and deer..

Maeve - do you ever sleep?

I'm going to haul the bench press out of Limpit's room later and do a couple of curls... I feel the need.

Three bathtubs of laundry scrubbed clean, rinsed, wrung, and hung - muscle work for arms, hands, abdominal muscles, back, legs. Weight resistance training too, eh?

Garden work, veggie picking and harvest basket hauling.

Night walks around veggie gardens, up road, past fiend and back.

Can't be doing with damaged feet... I've done my fair share in my time (but have so far avoided fracturing anything myself) so do what the docs say, rest up and Chairobics is the way to go - sit vigorously!
