FYI, Reggie, TGG keeps track of both her PM addresses, but she doesn't run around checking them every day, because, well, she has a good-size family to handle and a life of no little complexity in the 3D world to deal with. Not to worry -- the GG works in mysterious ways but she always comes through!!

Hey man, I think I saw your ragtop in the traffic jam coming over the bridge into Newport for the 1965 folk festival!! I was three seats behind Bobbie and Joanie! :>)

I just got around to reading that duct tape thread from last month and my last remaining brain cell managed to squeeze out this little dittie. Submitted for your approval

Listening to 'A Letter from Lilac Acres' (Jed Marum) I kept thinking that it needed a reply from Louisa's spouse- and the more times I have
heard it the more I felt the need.

Tho' the deed wasn't done in an attempt at flattery - , it is definately imitative, downright plageristic in many ways. This is the text I came up with - using Jed's tune and the same format:

And here's a lighthearted offering by a brand new 'Catter, The Singing Referee, who should be a great addition to our little band of authors!

Be fair Schantieman,

The subject of the song is a fellow 'Catter, and it's found it's way here at her instigation, also I may have used a bit of artistic licence in describing her reaction.

Singin' ref.

If you ever feel like singing to convince a friend to join the 'Cat, here's a delightfull ditty penned by our own Nigel Parsons that should do the trick (it's in the Parodies section):

Message to JennyO and Daylia

Keep 'em comin'!

Re. Hilary's Piggies, the tail of my reaction was greatly exaggerated, but it makes it a really funny song & I thought it was worthwhile to share to introduce a new Catter :-)

Brilliant suggestion, my guru!! Thanks so much for the headsup on this wonderful 'event song' of Micca's -- he's such a giggle, ain't he? ;-)

I have therefore added Portaferry Mudcats by our darlin' Micca, to the Songbook.

Keep playing, singing and writing!! (and keep those eagle-eyes peeled, too).

McGrath of Harlow has written a beautiful song, Rachel Corrie, about her very recent tragic death. I'm very proud to have it included in the Mudcat Songbook.

Thank you, Kevin.

Thank you both so much.

Aine dear...are you still doing this? if so...would like to submit this:

Circle of Hearts

(tune the shearing's nae for you)

Will you take your hand in mine, my bonnie lassie-o?
Will you take your hand in mine, my bonnie lassie-o?
If you take your hand in mine, shivers will float down my
spine,
When our fingers, they entwine, my bonnie lassie-o.

May I look into your eyes, my bonnie lassie-o?
May I look into your eyes, my bonnie lassie-o?
Let me look into your eyes, where my heart it softly lies
As we stand beneath the skies, my bonnie lassie-o.

May I kiss upon your lips, my bonnie lassie-o?
May I kiss upon your lips, my bonnie lassie-o?
May I kiss upon your lips? My heartbeat lightly skips
When I hold you close to me, my bonnie lassie-o.

Will you have this dance with me, my bonnie lassie-o?
Will you have this dance with me, my bonnie lassie-o?
If you'll have this dance with me, We will float upon the sea
As I hold you in my arms, my bonnie lassie-o.

Do you wish to wed with me, my bonnie lassie-o?
Do you wish to wed with me, my bonnie lassie-o?
If you wish to wed with my, my heart will happy be
As I watch you grow old with me, my bonnie lassie-o.

On The Dole Again
(tune: On The Road Again by Willie Nelson)

On the dole again
Well this morning I'm on the dole again
Now here I am standin' in the queue with my friends
Dancing down the street with my pay in hand
On the dole again
Huntin' jobs in places I ain't never been
Seein' things I don't want to see again
And so here I am on the dole again.

On the dole again
I flipped some burgers in McDonald's today
Me and Big Macs are the best of friends
The bosses insist it must be done their way
Or its the highway
And on the dole again
Well, here I am back on the dole again
Standin' here in the queue with my old friends
And tellin' the clerk why I'm back on the dole again

On the dole again
Scrapin' up some money just to pay my rent
Me and the landlord are best of friends
He insists that I pay him every cent
And out I went
Back on the dole again

Well this morning I'm on the dole again
Me and the clerk have become the best of friends
He insists I stay in line with the other men
As we wait there to pick up our dole again
Back on the dole again.

FREEDOM ROAD

(G) I don't want to tie you down,
Don't (C) want to cramp your (G) style.
(D) I just want to hang around,
And (C) be with you a (G) while.
So if I (G) whisper "I love you"
As (C) I beside you lay,
It doesn't (G) mean that I'll stop you
When the (D7) road calls you a-(G) way. Oh

CHORUS:
Freedom (D) Road, Freedom (D7) Road: it's the (C) life you love to (G) follow,
Freedom (D) Road, Freedom (D7) Road will urge you (G) on.
Freedom (D) Road, Freedom (D7) Road, will (C) call you one to-(G) morrow,
Freedom (D) Road, Freedom (D7) Road, then you'll be (G) gone.

You have many roads to travel,
Many people yet to meet,
Many myst'ries to unravel,
Many journeys to complete.
So when you feel the need to move,
As I know you will one day,
Just remember those who love you
As you travel on your way, down

CHORUS

If some day you find yourself
Down this way again,
Please drop by and ring my bell-
I'll always be your friend.
And if you ever want someone
To join you on the road,
I could jump on board your wagon
And together we could roam!

CHORUS

Freedom Road, Freedom Road, then we'll be gone!

MIghty nice song, there Jay. ANd you raise an interesting point (probably in all innocence) about the fate of the Mudcat Songbook itself. The beautiful, witty, and effervecent Presence who founded said songbook, known hereabout as Áine, or The Gaelic Goddess, ran off with a wayward Gypsy train about three years back, and has not been heard from in the ranks of civilization (as we know it) since.

But there is no reason why fine songs should not continue to be added to this thread, even though they can't be transferred over to the Songbook she built on another server.

I must be slow because I can't work out how to submit [post?] a song to the Songbook. Can I do it through this 'reply to thread' form? Do I have to put ADD:Lyr in somewhere?

Hi, Keefeetee,
you should be able to post right here, just like you posted your message. It's nice if you put the title of your song in the message title - but if you don't figure out how to do that, someone will do it for you.

The Mudcat FAQ (frequently asked questions) has a section on Posting Lyrics (click).

From: keefeetee

THE DEVIL'S VOYAGE
(K Tomlinson 2006)

The cruiser Indianapolis left San Francisco Bay,
With the Little Boy on board, to the west she sailed away,
Headed for the Philippines, as the 'Japs' already knew,
Bad luck for Captain McVeigh and for his 1200 crew.

Out from Hiroshima, Pearl of the Inland Sea,
Slipped submarine I-58 of the Japanese Navy,
Commander Hashimoto had orders short and clear,
Sink the cruiser. Stop the Little Boy from coming here.

The sub, it lay in ambush across the cruiser's course,
And every day they waited the tension it grew worse,
Until after 14 long & weary days and nights,
The cruiser Indianapolis steamed straight into their sights.

Indianapolis died quickly, with her went 300 crew,
Dragged down with her forever in the deep Pacific blue,
900 more went overboard, clinging to rafts and floats.
There'd been no time for SOS, no time to launch the boats,

All on an empty ocean and beneath an empty sky,
The men left in the water struggled to survive
Some died of wounds, some died from thirst, the sharks killed many fast,
Two-thirds of them had died when rescue came at last.

The sinking was small victory, for just two days before,
The cruiser'd docked at Tinian, put Little Boy on shore,
They'd flown him to Hiroshima and set his fury free,
And the light of a thousand suns destroyed the Pearl of the Inland Sea.

Tune – Rounding of the Horn

In August 2017 it was announced that the wreck of the Indianapolis
had been found, three miles down in the Pacific. It prompted my memory for this song that I wrote after reading the book of the same name by
Jack L Chalker. Reading the book was prompted by a bit of dialogue by
Robert Shaw's character in the film JAWS. See also the song 'Captain Mcvay's Lament' already on Mudcat
