Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: Hrothgar Date: 10 Jan 02 - 05:38 AM I'm more in favour of people learning to not yodel. |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: WyoWoman Date: 10 Jan 02 - 12:15 AM I live to serve! I think the problem with yodeling as we get older has to do with muscular limberness, just as so much other athleticism does. Only remedy is to keep exercising and keep limber -- which applies to backs and legs and vocal chords equally. ww |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: Steve in Idaho Date: 10 Jan 02 - 12:05 AM Well I finally did a yodel the other night on PalTalk - Katrose said it was a great yodel - and I liked it myself! Nothing fancy ya know - but Thanks for the links Spaw (yes I read them) and Thanks WyoWoman for the advice! Steve |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: Steve in Idaho Date: 25 Oct 01 - 11:38 AM WyoWoman gave me some GREAT advice! Practice, don't mind being thought a bit eccentric (goofy??), and ignore hecklers. My wife was giving me a hard time as I was yodeling to one of my songs last night. I told her I was not paying attention to her - she just laughed. I'm not wanting to be a yodeller like Slim Whitman or anything - just be able to do some bare bones stuff to fit with all of the Jimmie Rodgers tunes I know and one or two others that have a few discreet places that a yodel fits in nicely. Since I quit smoking, yes my voice has changed, I am revamping almost all of my music to fit the different vocal range I now have. And much to my delight I can do some soft yodeling. Thanks for all of the advice - and especially WyoWoman - ignore the hecklers!!!!! Steve |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: M.Ted Date: 24 Oct 01 - 07:21 PM I am a bit bitter about this yodelling business--as a younger person, I was quite the yodeller(not that many wanted to hear it, and, I warn you, it doesn't get you far with the ladies) but I have mostly lost the falsetto either from age or lack of use, and I can manage a yodel only on certain days, and then only with great effort--the thing is that I can always hit the notes themselves in my full voice, so go figure-- Anyway, Dicho and I have agreed that yodelling moved into country music by way of Hawaiian music--the best yodellers having been the likes of Rose Moe--who performed in an old Hawaiian style that may have been taught there as early as the 1870's, but don't get me started-- |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: RangerSteve Date: 24 Oct 01 - 06:54 PM I learned how to yodel by listening to recordings. When I was driving to work I would try to imitate what I heard on the records. It took a while, but the method worked. If you smoke, quit. It ruins your yodel. |
Subject: RE: Help: Yodeling From: Dicho (Frank Staplin) Date: 23 Oct 01 - 11:49 PM Thanks Spaw for putting those threads together. They work OK for me. |
