I had the great joy to watch Peggy's performance in Gosforth Civic Theatre last night and she was utterly delightful. Her wit is needle-sharp, with humour and energy that you'd rarely find in someone half her age. She got three, well-deserved standing ovations, and shared incredible stories of her long career and past-acquaintances.

Worth noting for posterity, towards the end of the show she spoke of Norma Waterson, and how she wouldn't care for going off stage before returning to an encore as it was hard work on the knees - Peggy very rightly said, "in the sea of folk music, Norma Waterson was a GALLEON!"

Peggy did signings afterwards, and I picked up a copy of her new CD, Teleology and she was kind enough to also sign a couple of my LPs that I'd brought from home.

My advice to anybody who's going to see her live on this tour, is don't be afraid to sing loud! She seemed surprised and somewhat dissapointed by how few of the audience joined in with the choruses, when that's the whole point!

Peggy Seeger turns 90 in June this year and is embarking on a Final Farewell Tour assisted by sons Neill and Callum MacColl. With over 75 years in music, Peggy co-founded The Critics Group alongside Ewan MacColl, and was an instigator of the 1960s British folk revival. She has written many memorable songs eg "Gonna Be An Engineer".

Several friends saw her in Stirling and Glasgow, and all were raving about how good the concerts were. I would have been there like a shot, were it not for the parlous state of my hearing, which is now interfering so badly with my enjoyment of music.

Lots of us lose hearing as we age, but singers & musos lose a lot more, & not everyone can be like Beethoven hearing the music in their heads. I hope you are able to get effective help.

I've lost a bit of hearing from both ears, not enough (yet) to need remedying. I have a singer friend who doesn't always wear her uncomfortable hearing aids & recently answered a question from a singer across the circle with an unrelated remark - she missed a lot of the action.
