The other loose end to update from that event is whether Don succeeded in getting the odd-sized ferrule onto his guitar to replace the missing one. Does anyone know?

"I have your spare head in my guitar bag"

Blimey, that's frightening, even by TDL's standards! I'd better make sure my doors are locked at night!

(By the way, is it any better-looking than the main one?)

Thanks again for the tuning head Richard, have now got a replacement from Grover (2 weeks turnaround - not too shabby from the Banks of the Ohio!) I have your spare head in my guitar bag - remind me when we meet again.

How did today go ? We were thinking of you in the rather inclement weather today. Although it rained this afternoon, we had to have the doors open at the White Hart because the landlord has still got the C. H. on full blast.

Oh, Amoxycillin's all right. The bugger is teh metronidazole. My dentist, who is a moslem, likes to give me some before the highlights of the folk drinking season, to prevent me drinking alcohol. I think she plans to convert me in due course.

Thanks Richard, I've found a head off an old strat that fits, although it turns counterwise, that will do until I manage to get a replacement from Grover (anyone know what the turnaround time is postwise to Ohio?). I'm back in business and looking forward to tomorrow. hope your Hampsteads are feeling better anyway. - Len

Sorry folks. I've just arrived home to find my wife in bed, shivering, vomiting, and all the other things you do when you connect with a nasty bug, so I will for this evening be conspicuous by my absence.

All that ARE gong, have a great evening.

I will be over tomorrow afternoon.

Yes, that's the stuff that turns your urine yellow. Speak from experience. Unfortunately it also brings me out in an itchy red rash so I don't take ant penicillin based drugs now. Richard will be ok as long as nobody even offers him a pint, so don't. Trevor has some replacement heads that are nameless, but thry look like Grovers. He's going to put one on later, and see if it works, otherwise we'll try your Schallers Richard, thanks. See you sll tomorrow, weather's going to be ace.

I had a great time on Wednesday (as did Growler). Thanks to all concerned. I shall try to get over again this weekend.

Regrettably, due to that continuing problem with some of my teeth that some of you know about, I am now on a course of taking both ampicillin and metronidazole.

Metronidazole is closely related to the basic components of antabuse, the drug used to prevent alcoholics from drinking (some might say there was some justice in there).

The relationship of metronidazole with alcohol can be summarised: -

"Consuming ethanol (alcohol) while using metronidazole causes a disulfiram-like reaction with effects that can include nausea, vomiting, flushing of the skin, tachycardia (accelerated heart rate), shortness of breath, and even death.[5] Consumption of alcohol should be avoided by patients during systemic metronidazole therapy and for at least 24 hours after completion of treatment.[1] However, the mechanism of this reaction in the clinical setting has recently been questioned by some authors,[6][7] and a possible central toxic seratonin reaction for the alcohol intolerance suggested.[8]"

I am therefore off alcohol - although the course will be over in time for me to drink on the 1st May and at Sweeps.

So I may well not be very jovial company on Friday or Saturday.

Framus seem to have used a decidedly non-standard size.

Amongst that pot of bits, you wouldn't perchance have assorted spare bushes, would you Richard.

Chances are we won't find one to fit, but I've been looking for a tool head bush for several years. Even Framus don't have them.

Well, we went along to help Don out on the afternoon shift today. Unfortunately, Trev's blue guitar, which works best outdoors, got a broken machine head last night, and the Dean just wasn't up to it. We soldiered on, but retired, when the evening shift started to arrive.
Will probably do the afternoon on Saturday will bring reinforcements.

Bishop Gundulf will be at the Kings Arms on Wednesday 8pm Then on Saturday from 2pm dancing then those that can will sing when we,ve finished dancing and whoever can come and go as you please, OK
It is always advisable to keep your intrument covered when not in use if outside, but if you are playing with it or have allowed someone else to play with it it is best out, to reiterate what Don said.
Me thinks xx

A carefully chosen position upwind of the fire, and keeping the instrument in its gigbag (which collected some fine white ash, but no burns) between songs did the trick for me, though I can foresee circumstances where there might be problems.

Fingers crossed for dry weather, at least.

Whichever the winter night that Kev, my daughter Rachel, and I (with also Paul Carr until he went) - oh and her boyf Sam on percussion - did, before we left and Fiddlefit arrived was, keeping Jacqui's Hagstrom in tune but not incinerated by the fire was tricky.

You'll like this open fire mate. In December, with the temperature down in single figures (centigrade) we had a cozy evening around the fire in Rob's garden. It kept the temp steady enough that my guitar didn't lose tune, but I didn't notice any reduction in beer volume, except through ingestion.

I shall be needin some REAL ale after suffering from frostbite of the lips drinkin Bud, Coors and other nameless and instantly forgettable frozen "mosquito wee wees" that is the staple diet this side of the Bayou Atlantique.
Nearest to palatable is imported Newky Broon, sadly also frozen so as to take the taste out of it.
I did ask the nice perty barmaid to microwave me a pint, but she just thought I was a crazy English person and wanted to know which part of Australia I was from !!!
Also, I should warn Dilligaff that ale and open fires do not mix well.
Evaporation, you know.

Dear Dead Horse, to refer to one,s wife as a fascist boss is I,m afraid politically incorrect, Kay is in fact a very nice person. And if she has you on a leash then I am sure you asked her to do it and what you do in your private lives should not be broadcast on Mudcat,
Rob you will all be happy to know can handle his way round a real ale barrel much better than he can a keyboard and a computor, the selection of ales is GOOD if not FANTASTIC he has gone to a lot of trouble to get patriotic beers lots of Dragons in names so even those who don,t sing or play can join me in getting pi**ed around the fire.
