Subject: BS: Funny Mudcat Threads
From: Azizi
Date: 03 Jan 09 - 09:34 AM

Sometimes "girls just wanna have fun". And sometimes guys do too. I'm talking about "ha ha" fun, the laughing or at least the smiling kind.

I know that there have been some really great Mudcat threads that have been funny, cheerful, humorous and/or witty {in a play on words way or otherwise}. But when I went looking for a listing of those threads through Mudcat's search engine, I couldn't find any such list.

So...

This thread is an opportunity for folks to have some fun listing the names and hopefully the hyperlinks to memorable funny, cheerful, witty, humorous Mudcat threads-not just from last year, but from whenever.

It occurs to me that clicking on a Mudcatter's name in any thread brings up a list of threads that she or he posted to. Perhaps one way of finding humorous threads is to click on a Mudcatter's name who is known for his or her wit and sense of humor {humour}. Which Mudcatters would you place in that category?

Sometimes the humorous or witty comment is an inside joke, understandable only to those persons who have some history here. That's fine, but I'm talking about humorous or witty posts that are understandable to anyone reading the comment or the thread whether he or she is new to Mudcat or not. Of course, you have to take into consideration that some folks are more humor challenged than others. There are times that I don't get the punch line of jokes, and I'm sure I'm not the only humor challenged person on this forum. But still, I think it's worth a try to create a listing of threads that individuals here consider to be funny and/or witty.

Please join me in posting the titles, hyperlinks {or at least the subject matter} of such Mudcat threads. Maybe part of the fun will be for other folks to identify the thread you're referring to if you can't remember its title or web address {URL}. And if you're not yet a member of Mudcat's "blue clicky/hyperlink club", but can post the web address {URL} to a funny Mudcat thread, please do so. I or other folks will add the hyperlink.

If there is already one or more threads listing funny/witty {or mostly funny/witty} Mudcat discussions, I hope that someone will post the name of those threads and their URLs in this thread. Hopefully, Joe Offer, Big Mick, or another Mudcat moderators will add a listing of related threads to this one.

I'm gonna start the ball rolling in my next post to this thread.

Thanks in advance for your participation in this thread!

Here's a comment that I wrote on a recent Mudcat thread:

I'm serious.

:o)

I didn't know that I had a sense of humor until I found it on Mudcat. Now even if other people don't think I'm witty, I think I am. And-in this context anyway-how I think of myself is more important than how others think of me.

Though I'll admit that most of my Mudcat posts are serious, as evidence that I really do have a sense of humor {or humour if you prefer that spelling}, here's the hyperlink to my still all time favorite lighthearted Mudcat thread:

I really wish that Donuel would ask Joe Offer to close that thread. as Its last post seems to me to be just right.

Please keep in mind that this thread isn't meant to be a contest or a chance to vote-the-best-funny thread. It's just a listing of threads that an individual thinks is funny/witty.

That said, in no particular order, here are three threads that I'd add to the list of funny/witty Mudcat threads {at least I think that most of the comments on these threads are funny/witty}:

Cheers for this thread Azizi.

Now I'm merrily encased in the concrete re-inforced play-pen cum shady underworld that upstairs call 'the basement', I'm just beginning to discover a shiny world of amusement by care of some of the American boys and girls down here.

The only thing I am mildly concerned about, is whether or not we are all going to turn into braying donkeys, and then get sold off to work in the salt mines...?

There's none as much fun as the Muscat Juke Joint, IMHO.

But for sheer towering persistence in madness, all are overshadowed by The Mother of all BS.

And none so brilliant as Blake Madison.

And few have been as much fun as The Mudcat Enterprise in five parts. Except perhaps Steamboating: The Albert Hansell which ended up crossing galaxies.

just a note, Blake Madison started with LEJ's "True Detective Stories", I linked above, which was inspired by a post by Dave Swan in the "A challenge:a flea,an orange,a bicycle seat" thread.

For newer Catters, back in the early days, when those threads were started, there was not the breakdown of multiple pages of a thread. Max developed that later. We used to have just one looooooonnnng page to each thread, which sometimes got very hard to load in the earlier, slower days of the internet. So, when a thread got very long, people would often start part 2 and then part 3, etc., continuing the idea in a completely new thread.

We had several different versions of the group-written stories, including Last Voyage of the S.S.Possum
and A Town Like Possum and An Irish Tale and seems like there was another one about a nurse, but I can't find it.

We all miss her and the special awards she passed out, etc. Thankfully her Mudcat Songbook is still available: HERE. Oh! There were some funny songs that came out of those! Thanks for the reminder.

At some point in 2002, an odd phenomenon began on Mudcat. This was a chain of threads surrounding a mythical Irish song called "The Campsite at Drumcree". Some of the participants were known, but other anonymous postings came from everybody from Phil Lynnott to Michael Flatley to Liam Clancy to Reverend Paisley. Much of it was obscurely Irish, but most of it was absolutely hilarious satire. One doesn't so much read the Drumcree threads as become absorbed into their surreal world and emerge somehow...different. Then in 2003, they suddenly ceased, and I don't believe the mysterious mind that was behind Drumcree was ever revealed. I know that I, nor Amos, Peter T, Kat, Jen, Spaw nor any of the usual suspects were involved.

My suggestion is to pour a pint o Guinness and settle down with the madness that was
The Campsite at Drumcree
and remember "For the cause of dear oul' Ulster, we wipe with a clipe of grass"

This Mudcat thread that was started by Liz the Squeak is a real hoot. And it just goes to show that every thread title doesn't mean what you think it might mean.

thread.cfm?threadid=88296

{I suppose you noticed that I didn't post the thread's title.
I'm too fuddy duddy to type those risque words even if they refer to something entirely different than what some folks {like me?} with their mind in the gutter initially thought they meant.}

That doesn't stop me from believing that it deserves a place in a listing of funny and witty Mudcat threads.

Speaking of words that some people are reluctant to say or write, I'm glad to see that posting a link to the thread "G rated swear words" called that thread to folks's attention, and some new posts have been added to that thread.

As to the word "constrain", I believe that Bible says to "train up a child in the way she will go, and when she is old/er, it will be hard for hard for her to depart from it-or it to depart from her".

Not that this has anything what so ever to do with the pros and cons of how you train a child. And not that this has anything to do with doing any kind of do. And it really has absolutely nothing to do with choo choos-trains that is, or with constipation or with g rated swear words though some might think so in certain circumstances.

Butt I've heard tell that depend-ing on where you're sitting or standing, everything is related to everything else some kind of way. Eventually, it all comes out in the wash-or somewhere else, at least it's supposed to come out effortlessly {or not}.

Or so I'm told.

Believe me Azizi, it's taken years of contradictory training and subliminal learning to make me into the erudite (and potty mouthed) person I am now... I didn't realise my mother even knew the F word until I was 22. She was so constrained that she couldn't even tell her daughters that our grandmother died of breast cancer - because she'd have to explain what a breast was. She told us it was lung cancer. Gee, thanks for not mentioning the hereditary aspect, mother. And I won't even start with the 'facts of life' talk.....
