I think this is some sort of scam, but for the life of me I can't figure out how it's supposed to work . . .

"Hello,
My Name is Evangelist Mary Sievers, I and my husband are on a Christian
Mission to Africa and I came along with our Teacup Yorkshire Terrier
Babies and English Bulldog. After a While, I notice that the African Weather is not good for
the puppies.I need someone to adopt both and take care of them. They are
AKC REGISTERED: TEACUP. HOME RAISED, VACINES & HEALTH GUARANTEED contact

At some point she will need your bank account, ss#, etc to set up delivery of the dogs.

Have you ever heard of this person in your entire life? Would you recognize her on the street? Is she a member or your church?

Delete it. Mary is right.

Mick

Should you reply, they will send you a money order that you are told to deposit, and then send your own check to the "shipper" along with the address to which the dogs are to be delivered. You will be given permission to keep a large portion of the money order "to take care of the dogs."

Two weeks after you send your check, you will learn that the money order was a forgery, and that amount (with penalties and other fees) will be withdrawn from your account. Your check will already have cleared, and that money will also be taken from your account.

While you are "down at the station" complaining about being victimized, local associates of the scammer will remove everything of value from the "delivery address."

You might have purchased a money order to forward the money to the shipper, but if you sent a personal check (as Mary probably suggests) the "shipper" will of course have your bank account number (from your check) to sell to another scammer who can probably also purchase your password from the hackers who will have identified and "hacked" your computer (from which you replied) and will be able to clean out anything left of your funds.

Standard Nigerian Scam.

If Mary actually was on a "mission," she would have a church sponsor and friends who would gladly take care of her miserable little curs without the need to spam strangers.

John

If I don't know the sender, I don't open it. I immediately flag it as spam and let my ISP investigate it.

Fact is, you were lucky. Always think "virus". If you don't have a "spam" option, delete!

Why do we alwaya assume that when someone posts any sort of thread, they are asking for help?

I think he's just asking how it works or if others have gotten it, and notifying us to BOLO.

A slightly different scam - some people here in NZ were wanting a puppy. They found one on-line and contacted the 'breeder'.
I can't remember if they were in NZ or overseas - importing special breeds of dog isn't unusual in a country as small and isolated as this.
Anyway, the deal was made, the money sent and of course, no dog arrived!
The people were on telly and I felt sorry for them but they've been caught out.
At least your one looks like a scam.
Robyn

God bless them "christian" missionaries.

This is probably one of the "good works" Keith & Ron & the rest are waxing poetic over on the "Nurse Suspended" thread

Greg, I hope you don't seriously think there is reason to believe that spam was actually sent by a missionary. Think about it; what are the odds?

Besides that, there is no such thing as an AKC registered 'Teacup Yorkshire Terrier'. Just Yorkies. No ACK registered 'tea cup' anything.

But, some internuts are not as astute regarding breeds, or scams, Sorcha.

Well, pardon, but IF you are 'dog shopping' then you better get 'breed savvy' pretty fast.

Thanks Ebbie. I have been nuts a lot longer, but I gotta keep up with the times, eh?

Sorcha is right. Take the time to get educated if you want to get a dog. It really is a life decision that needs research.... even if you buy from a breeder with papers!!!! There are breeds that look wonderful at the dog show on the TV, but when they say... "a high spirited breed that needs lots of family interaction" or whatever, think, "hyperactive nutcase dog that is mentally unstable from inbreeding".... be a smart shopper. Rant over... sorry.

Although it is true that bulldogs can't breathe in the tropics, this is still a scam. Nice new one, though!
