Subject: Shel Silverstein From: BK Date: 01 Aug 99 - 10:25 AM The thread abt Anita Carter's passing reminded me of my sadness to hear of Shel's fairly recent death. My wife recently showed to me an article she got drom a local paper abt Shel's untimely death. I don't think there was much at all abt his MUSIC - mostly his prose. How many 'catter's sang his stuff? I bet most of us have sung "the Unicorn" a time or two (at least!!!!!); I know his beautiful "In The Hills Of Shilo" is in the DT. What abt it 'catters? How many of you have appreciated his music? Subject: RE: Shel Silverstein From: BK Date: 02 Aug 99 - 12:06 AM Having finished the big Sunday "honey-do" list, I am not surprised to come back & find out that there was a discussion. I probably could've guessed. I'm not always sure how old something she cuts out of the paper & puts aside for me to read is by the time I get around to reading it.. I'm still surprised that the article did not recignize him as a musician. I wonder what the public percieved him as - guess it was as kid's story writer, as I do know many adults who talk abt their, and their kid's, favorite stories by him.. Cheers, BK |
