I have done a number of web searches trying to track down words and chords for some of the great songs written by Shel SIlverstein and recorded by Dr. Hook.

I know I'm pushing my luck a bit to call them folk.

I'm thinking of great songs like "Last Morning", "Staying Song" and "Carry me Carrie".

Any advice gratefully received.

Roger

I shouldn't worry about calling them 'folk', mate - think of all the songs Silverstein wrote for Bobby Bare's 'Lillabies, Legends and Lies' album. You could do any single one of them in a folk club... well, not the one with the five-year-old kid singing on it, but all the rest would pass muster!

All the best - Ian B

Apologies.

Roger,

Just type in Shel Silverstein on the Google search engine, there's loads of different site. Sadly Shel died last year, a brilliant talent.

Thanks everyone, that's helped keep me going.

I hadn't realised Shel had died - very sad.

Roger

I do a few of Shel's songs at coffee houses. They are great and I contend they are as folky as any singer-songwriter stuff.

Naemanson, anything you can pass on with chords? The other links were very helpful for lyrics, but I don't have the ability to work out chords.

Morpheus is loaded with MP3s... of Shel Silverstein... using... audio... all.

Now Dr. Hook is an interesting - very divergent artest - that jumps through styles like girl's skipping rope.

Last I heard, * both * lead singers from Dr. Hook were going out leading separate 'Dr. Hook' bands and playing all their old hits.

I saw the guy with the eyepatch and his band... oh, must have been ten years ago now. He was brilliant!

I knew they were gigging seperately Ian. I'm a Dennis Lecorriere man myself. I think he's got a voice to die for.

Thanks a lot for the link homeless. I can give these a go (there goes the neighbourhood)

Roger

I was just reading the credits for "Almost Famous". I was surprised to see Shel credited for "The Cover of The Rolling Stone."
