That probably explains my confusion over whether there were ten or twelve albums. Ten issued, two lost. That's sad. Shouldn't happen.

There were two additional albums of non-Child ballads in the series that were recorded but never released; they were designatd the title 'Second Crop'. Peggy confirmed that they were made, but doesn't know what happened to the masters - wonder if anybody else does. I tried to trace both of these, got no further than a list of their contents
There was also to be an LP of a lecture on ballads (in front of a live audience) which was recorded for public release (I'm certain of this as I was in the audience in Decca's Hampstead Studio - around 1969). Great lecture, but again, never issued.

Anglo, The Long Harvest wasn't entirely Child ballads, although you're right. I'm a Rover was included as a version of No 248. Also, Here's a Health to all True Lovers and The Lover in the Night were included for the same reason.

However, the series also included The Brewer's Daughter, The Lowlands of Holland (as an appendix to one of the Child ballads. Can't remember which.), Froggie Went a'Courting and the Wife of Kelso.

Thanks for the input. You're all correct of course, it is Long Harvest. And it must have been a compilation that I made myself, because I own a set. (In fact, I believe Dick used my pdfs of the notes for the reissue).

I was thinking that it couldn't be, because I don't think of 'I'm a Rover' as Child. But as soon as I checked... - they classified it as a version of 'The Grey Cock'. It's a very nice selection :-)

Long Harvest has been reissued on CD--10 CDs + one CD with all the notes.
CAMSCO Music has it ($100 the set)

There's a terrific Ewan MacColl Discography. I think Martha's right that it's a selection from The Long Harvest.

I think it's selections from the ten (twelve?)-volume set THE LONG HARVEST,on Argo, and now out of print. See this site for the full list of songs. (I still can't make those blue linky things.)

I found most of this on an old cassette - I have no idea what it is. It's rather nice. Mostly English, mostly Ewan , often with accompaniment. Occasionally Peggy sings.

Tracklist goes:

George Collins
I'm a Rover
The Cock
Pretty Polly
House Carpenter
Johnny Sands
Keach in the Creel (Peggy)
Lowlands of Holland (Peggy)
Sir Eglamore
Queen Jane
?

Does anyone recognize it?
