Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 03 Oct 18 - 02:02 PM I think it is still true (for now!) that all Marmite is produced at Burton on Trent, once the beer production capital of the UK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Oct 18 - 02:51 PM Kellys is the supermarket choice here to Sen. Ever tried (given where you are) Ronaldo Not had one in years but they have a shop in Sherringham for one place and make really nice stuff. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Senoufou Date: 03 Oct 18 - 03:08 PM Oooh yes Jon, we know Ronaldo's in Sheringham very well. On our way down to the sea, we always stop at their little window and get two vanilla cones. Then we lean on the sea wall (with those lovely pictures of historic times, fishermen, lifeboats etc) and look out at the horizon. Husband never fails to say exactly the same things EVERY time:- "Isn't the sea big eh?" "Yes, it certainly is." "And so cold!" "Yes, it's very cold." "And the tide goes in and out doesn't it?" "Yes, that's right." "This ice-cream is freezing my mouth." "You always say that!" "But it IS delicious!" It's incredible, but this exact dialogue takes place every blooming time, like Groundhog Day! I can never help dissolving into giggles. He absolutely adores Sheringham, and so do I. Especially when the Potty Festival is on. We both love watching Morris dancing. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Mr Red Date: 03 Oct 18 - 03:10 PM Marmite is produced at Burton on Trent probably sourced from Burtons, now Coors. So even Marmite is changing. An I thought it couldn't get any worse! |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Jos Date: 03 Oct 18 - 03:41 PM I was wrong about Bird's custard being for people who are too lazy to use milk and eggs. Apparently it was invented in 1837 by Alfred Bird because his wife was allergic to eggs. My mother always bought Pearce Duff's custard powder instead of Bird's, and Rowntree's cocoa instead of Cadbury's - she said they tasted better (but it might have been because they came from Yorkshire instead of Birmingham). I never could abide that smoo-ooth ice cream squirted out of a tube. It reminded me of Brylcream. I like a bit of texture in my ice cream, but yes, Kelley's is OK. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Dave the Gnome Date: 03 Oct 18 - 03:52 PM I think you mean Marsdens Mr R. Even though it is now owned by Coors I think they have kept the brewing process pretty original. Besides, it ain't the only brewery in Burton. Thankfully :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Jon Freeman Date: 03 Oct 18 - 04:42 PM "Rowntree's cocoa instead of Cadbury's Hmm, that leads to another thought. Very rarely made here but if I wanted a "chocolate" drink, I'd take the cocoa powder over any "drinking chocolate" any day. May take a bit longer heating up over a pan with some milk but the result is good. |
Subject: RE: BS: Marmite it either loves or it hates..... From: Mr Red Date: 03 Oct 18 - 05:19 PM Marsdens Quite right - er mostly, I probably was thinking Bank's (pronounced Bonkses owr kid) who bought: Marston's which -> InBev -> Coors (aka Molson Coors Brewing Company) I am just glad they don't mill cider. Now a yeast extract from cider mills - I might be persuaded, then again I doubt it. |
