Can anyone help ?
Going to Sidmouth for the first time and my irons are worn out. Trefor Owen and Sandra Turton haven't got any left. The only available ones are from Walkleys but they are as soft as dog's doo. Any ideas gratefully received.

Alex

Now this ent a joke, but if I were you I'd goo und see a blacksmith, plenty of um here in East Anglia, if yer nose weir to look.
If they mek um out a good steel with a fair bit ur carbon in it then they cun heat treat um to mek um tough und last lunger.
Sounds t'me us if Walkleys ones is unly med frum mild steel, they might goo on fer a week but carbon steel uns might last till about next Easter mundey.
Ah well that's my fourpenath.
Cheerio

Ta for the reminder. If successful there could be a lot of noisier happier cloggers.

A friend of ours in Toronto dances with the Belles of York. I do some forged ironwork in my Laid Off periods. She has asked me a couple of times now to iron her clogs, it's just that we have not managed to get together yet. Anyone know if there are nspecific styles, material thicknesses, good/bad nails patterns etc. etc. Sorry I can't do yours in time for Sidmouth, unless you have LOTS of money for the bus fare.

Hope you got your clogs ironed in time. I now have about three or four sets of clogs to iron. Anyone out there got any answers or do I just rediscover old technology yet again?

You used to be able to get them from Walter Hurst at Hindley, but now I think he's retired, I'm not sure what the situation is. The address is 2 Wigan Rd, Hindley, but I am not sure if the new people have kept the name.

What size do you need, cos I used to have an odd pair of size 7 irons hanging about in the garage (no promises, not sure whether they're duck or common toe - probably common - and I'm going to be away at Whitby all next week; but if they're there I should more than likely have the nails too).

Being a Blacksmith, I was looking at making the irons myself. What I am not sure of is how thick, shape, section, number, size and position of nail holes. Things like that, (what is duck or commom toe?) any chance of a picture of them ?
Thanks for the help anyhow, JohnB.
