I'm looking for title and lyrics and songwriter of two songs I heard at Sidmouth Festival in the late 1970s (was it 1978?). I really had a great time there with friends from Southampton based King John's Morris.

The first one start like this :

It's been a long time since you've seen her.
Must have been three years or more
Will she be waiting as we dock, boys
Or like others, will she be gone.

Chorus:
Heave one more pull, boys,
That will do boys,
Soon we'll draw along side (?)
Hoist her up, boys
Swing her in board (?)
For our voyage is nearly done

After all these years I can still remember the tune of the second song, but only a few words of one verse :

Something at the end of a verse like :

Ireland, Netherlands, France and Spain
Then he get back to old England again.

And the chorus sound something like this :
Lang(?) for day, lang for day,
Lang for diddle and diddle and day.

Any help would be welcomed (particularly for the second one).

Merci d'avance.
Laurent

The first is Ian Wood's 'One more Pull' recorded on 'Hooks and Nets'
Can't help with the second I'm afraid; the chorus could be one of several

Emma's right, but the closest I know with a chorus like that is "Three Jolly Sneaksmen". It's in the Digitrad. Bonne chance!!!

I'm surprised Ian's 'One More Pull' hasn't already been posted here. I'm sure one of us will post it- i'll see if I can check whether that's ok with Ian, first.

Sorry can't think of anything for the second one, Laurent.

Laurent

Was Jon Heslop dancing with King John's at the time - and is there any chance he might remember the second song? If so, I'll e-mail him and ask!

Kitty

Herga kitty.

Thank you for your post.

I don't remember the name. After all those years, I often only remember the first name
I know a few morris dancers who used to come to visit the normand folk teams I belonged in Le Havre.

Does anyone have the lyrics to the wonderfully funny songs sang by Lynn Heraud and Pat Turner at last year's event - 2006 ? They sang one about cosmetic surgery and another about a chap with a vacuum cleaner !

I have the recordings made by a friend but Im not too good at making the words out
