This is too cool! Just read this press release at the Common Dreams website:

Willie Nelson Ads for Kucinich to Start Airing

WASHINGTON - July 30 - Beginning this week, Willie Nelson's radio ads supporting Dennis Kucinich for President will start airing in Iowa. The ads are narrated by Willie, a beloved figure in Iowa and the country, an artist known as a champion of heartland Americans. The theme of his radio message is that Congressman Kucinich is the candidate ready to fight for Americans "who need a stronger voice."
The goal of the spots is to continue to raise Kucinich's profile with voters. Besides endorsing the candidate, one of Willie's ads also advertises his Labor Day concert for Kucinich in Des Moines: "I'll be doing all I can to raise his profile, including a concert with his campaign right here in Iowa on Labor Day." (Willie will also perform concerts for the campaign in Cleveland on Sept. 6 and Madison, WI, on Sept. 13.)

The radio spots are running on a number of Iowa stations, will expand to more stations in Iowa and then to other states. The ads can be heard on the Kucinich.US website, where campaign supporters and Willie fans will be able to make online donations to expand radio play for the ads. (Ad transcripts below.)

"Best Person for the Job" (60 seconds)

Hey Iowa. This is Willie Nelson. I don't usually get too involved in politics, but this is more about getting involved with America. I've looked at the candidates for president and I think the best person for the job is Congressman Dennis Kucinich. I know Dennis. He speaks up for Americans who need a stronger voice. For family farmers and workers. For the environment. And a Kucinich Administration will put the interests of heartland Americans above the greed of big corporations. I encourage you all to visit his website at Kucinich.US and to come out and see him in person when he's in your area. I'll be doing all I can to raise his profile, including a concert with his campaign right here in Iowa on Labor Day. This is Willie Nelson saying support Dennis Kucinich for President, and we'll see you down the road. ANNOUNCER: Paid for by Kucinich for President

"Tell Him I Sent You" (30 seconds)

Hey Iowa. This is Willie Nelson. I don't usually get too involved in politics. But I'm supporting Congressman Dennis Kucinich for President.

I know Dennis and I know he speaks up for heartland Americans who need a stronger voice. So say hi to Dennis the next time he visits your community here in Iowa. Tell him I sent you. And check out his website at Kucinich.US. ANNOUNCER Paid for by Kucinich for President

So! Like I said, I thought it was cool that Willie Nelson was doing this, and I thought others here in Mudcat might like to hear about it too.

Is there a reason for your rudeness Amergin? Did the post or the subject matter of it, offend you in some way?

Good on Willie. Actually, Dennis "the menace" would indeed make the best president. Problem is, he ain't electable. He needs so much help in the personal appearance department. I don't know what it is about these Ohio boys with them thinkin' that cuttin' their own hair and buyin' their clothes at the Salvation Army but it ain't gonna get none of them elected. Poor ol' Jimmy Trafficant got jail time fir it...

Maybe Spawzer can she some light on this little situation...

Bobert

Thanks, guest, I am glad to hear of this and it does have an effect in that I will pay more attention to Kicinich. I was already interested based on what Spaw has already said about him and Dean, but this just gives me more interest.

Amergin...lots of "aging potheads" have something to say and still care a great deal about the good ol' US of A. Besides that he's a damn fine musician, in his own way!:-)

I don't know Bobert. I never consider personal appearance of the candidate when I vote. I just have never taken the "unelectable personal appearance" thing seriously. There may not be a lot of unattractive people in Congress, but I have seen quite a few. And after all, Kucinich has gotten elected, despite his personal appearance.

I wouldn't count Kucinich out at this point. Once everyone in the Democratic Party wakes up to realize that Dean is far from liberal, or even left leaning, Kucinich and Kerry will be the only two viable candidates to the left of the Democratic wing of the Republican party.

Well, I'll tell ya what GUEST, the womenz don't vote fir nobody that cuts his own hair (with hedge clippers, I might add) and wears clothes that even I wouldn't wear and I ain't too danged particular what I wear... Ya' got to accept a little reality here.

Yeah, sure, you can point out the fact that the people of Ohio *did* elect him. Well, they also elected his Uncle Jimmy (Trafficant). But these a native Ohioians, the home of Catspaw, the center of normalcy. I rest my case...

Bobert

C'mon now Bobert--fess up. At least one or two "normal Ohio womenz" must have voted for Kucinich for him to get into Congress, so somehow they must have overcome the appearance thing.

Perhaps they blindfolded themselves, instead of holding their nose, while voting.

BTW, are you suggesting it is only women who can't overlook the haircut? I have seen you going on about Kucinich's looks for sometime now Bobert. Something you haven't told us about yourself, like maybe you are a closet hairstylist from another dimension?
